MARCH 19th, 2008
Wow, we have had quite an adventure today and are still in the U.S.! We have lived the trains, planes and automobiles scene. We left this morning to find our flight late leaving from Nashville, which gave us 10 minutes to connect to our Beijing flight. You can picture us running to the other side of the airport, only to find they wouldn't let us on the plane - that was sitting right there at the terminal. Even my "but we're adopting a baby in China" didn't even work, to my amazement. So... car, plane, tram, shuttle, bus and subway later, we have done the “mini” tour of Washington, D.C., where United has given us a hotel room for the night.

We met Joe on the bus from the airport to downtown, who works at the Pentagon for the Air Force, real hush, hush stuff! He showed us the ropes on how to get the subway tickets, thank God!

We got to see the White House and the kids were fascinated with the men patrolling the roof with their rifles...

We had just enough time to see the Washington Monument before it got dark, which gave us a distant view of the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol.

We walked past the Smithsonian on the way back; I bet there is some pretty fancy stuff in there! We are making a second attempt to get to China tomorrow. If all goes well, that will put us in China Friday the 21st, 2:30 p.m.

Please pray for our flight on Thursday, that it takes off, with us on it, and we arrive safely in Beijing.
