Lafayette led 37-25 in the third quarter and survived a Southwestern come back attempt to earn a 57-55 victory in a good early season matchup between two good teams.  Lafayette shot 60.6% from the field including zero of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 17 of 20 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 16 Southwestern turnovers.  Southwestern shot 40% from the field including three of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 21 Lafayette turnovers.

Teri Abram led Lafayette with 17 points including 11 of 13 free throws.  Caroline Bennett added 14 points including seven of eight from the field and pulled down six rebounds.  Lindi DeBilzan recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists.  Tekiya Garr-Carter added nine points, five rebounds, and four steals.

Covington Catholic coach Scott Ruthsatz started the following lineup: 6-8 Jr. Jack Thelen, 6-5 Jr. Jack Davin, 7-1 Sr. Jake Walter, 5-10 Sr. Aiden Ruthsatz, and 6-4 Sr. CJ Fredrick.  (CovCath was missing AJ Mayer, Michael Mayer, and Luke Lenihan who are preparing for the football championship game).  Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-5 Sr. Zan Payne, 6-3 Sr. TC Price, 6-7 Sr. Max Sparkman, 6-0 Sr. Keegan Bailey, and 6-1 Fr. Ben Johnson.

Covington Catholic defeated Lexington Catholic by a score of 54-53.  Covington Catholic led 48-35 in the final quarter but Lexington Catholic rallied and led 53-52.  Covington Catholic’s Aiden Ruthsatz hit two free throws to give the Colonels a 54-53 with less than a minute to play.  Lexington Catholic missed a three point attempt at the buzzer and Covington Catholic escapes with an impressive road win. There were four ties and four lead changes in a game in which the Colonels seem to have control of until the closing minutes of the game.

Covington Catholic shot 56.7% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 14 of 17 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 10 points off six Lexington Catholic turnovers.  Lexington Catholic shot 31.1% from the field including five of 25 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on 20 of 23 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 15 Covington Catholic turnovers.

Aiden Ruthsatz had a great game for Covington Catholic tonight with 27 points.  Ruthsatz was seven of nine from the field including five of six from the three point line, and eight of eight free throws.  CJ Fredrick added 11 points, three rebounds, and six assists.  6-4 Jr. Tyler Fleek recorded seven points and six rebounds.

Zan Payne came up big for Lexington Catholic with 28 points including 13 of 13 free throws, nine rebounds, and two steals.  TC Price added eight points, four assists, and three steals.

Kiara Pearl led Eastern with 22 points including three three point baskets and four rebounds.  Brea Mishler added 16 points including three three point baskets and four rebounds.  Mikayla Kinnard recorded 13 points including seven of eight free throws, eight rebounds, and five assists.  Devin Beach added six points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
