Paul Laurence Dunbar outscored Scott County 18-3 in the second quarter on their way to a 60-35 victory over Scott County for a road victory.  Dunbar shot 44.7% from the field including nine of 20 from the three point line.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on nine of 17 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 15 Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 29.5% from the field including four of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 10 Dunbar turnovers.

 

Elise Ellison-Coons led Paul Laurence Dunbar with 19 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.  Aziah Campbell added 15 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Tanaya Cecil recorded eight points, , six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Carley Hinshaw and 5-7 Jr. Quinn Arnold also scored eight points each.

Madison Central scratched and clawed their way to a 48-40 victory on the road at Menifee County in a game that had five ties and 10 lead changes.  The Indians recorded 19 steals and scored 23 points off 29 Menifee County turnovers.  While Madison Central was not able to stop Menifee County’s talented center Kelsie Woodard they were able to limit her effectiveness on offense with a swarming defense and collapsing on her with double and triple teams when she got the ball.  Madison Central shot 33.9% from the field including six of 13 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on four of nine free throws, and pulled down 26 rebounds.  Menifee County shot 30.8% from the field including four of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cats connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored eight points off 13 Madison Central turnovers.

 

Eve Carter led Madison Central with 17 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, four assists, and seven steals.  Chloe Freeman added 11 points including three three point baskets and three rebounds.  Gretchen Hammitt chipped in with seven points.  5-10 Fr. Madison Central led 23-20 at halftime but outscored Model 43-9 in the second half to earn a 66-29 victory over Model.  Madison Central’s suffocating pressure defense forced 30 turnovers that they converted into 31 points.  The Indians recorded 17 steals and blocked three shots with 10 players logging between 10 and 19 minutes and three other players logging six, seven, and nine points with a total of 10 players getting into the scoring column.  Madison Central shot 38.2% from the field including six of 24 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on eight of 16 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 31 points off 30 Model turnovers.  Model shot 24.3% from the field including one of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Patriots connected on 10 of 26 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored six points off 16 Madison Central turnovers.

The old adage states “It’s better to win ugly than lose pretty” fit tonight’s game as Eastern Kentucky survived to earn a 69-61 victory in a game punctuated  by fouls and turnovers.  There were three ties and six lead changes in the game.  Eastern Kentucky shot 44.1% from the field including five of 20 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 12 of 23 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 24 EIU turnovers.  Eastern Illinois University shot 33.3% from the filed including six of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on 11 of 14 free throws, pulled down 49 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 18 EKU turnovers.

 

6-9 Jr. Tre King led Eastern Kentucky with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals.  6-5 Fr. Curt Lewis added nine points, six rebounds, and four steals.  5-11 Fr. Wendell Green Jr. recorded nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and five steals.  6-1 Jr. Cooper Robb chipped in with nine points, three rebounds, and two steals.  Russhard Cruickshank added eight points and Tariq Balogun blocked five shots.

 

George Dixon led Eastern Illinois University with 12 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Marvin Johnson added nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.  6-0 Fr. Eastern Kentucky University rallied from a 10 point deficit in the first half to defeat Eastern Illinois University by the score of 80-69.  The Panthers flawlessly executed their dribble-drive offense and turned over the young EKU guards in the first half to take a 43-35 halftime lead.  The only saving grace for the young Colonel squad was their hot 12 of 22 from the field in the first half.  EKU made some adjustments at halftime and fueled by a career night by Emma Hacker and excellent games by 6-1 So. Anysa Jordan and Bria Bass earned the come-from-behind victory.

 

Eastern Kentucky University shot 53.1% from the field including 10 of 19 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 18 of 22 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, scored 22 points off 13 Eastern Illinois University turnovers, and held a 27-9 advantage in bench scoring.  Eastern Illinois University shot 41% from the field including seven of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on 12 of 12 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 24 EKU turnovers. 

 

Emma Hacker recorded a career night with 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and two steals.  Hacker was seven of seven from the field including six of six from beyond the arc, and two of two free throws, and only committed one foul.  6-1 So. Anysa Jordan added 18 points and four rebounds in only 18 minutes of playing time.  Bria Bass recorded 14 points and nine rebounds.  Alice Recanati came up big after the intermission and added 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists. 

 

Karle Pace led Eastern Illinois University with 21 points including three three point baskets, four assists, and three steals.  Taylor Steele added 16 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and five assists.  Lariah Washington recorded 12 points and seven rebounds.  Kira Arthofer chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  5-9 So.
