Belmont University coach Rick Byrd started the following lineup: 6-7 So. Evan Bradds, 6-3 Jr. Craig Bradshaw, 6-8 Fr. Amanze Egekeze, 6-1 Sr. Reece Chamberlain, and 6-3 So. Taylor Barnette. Eastern Kentucky University coach Jeff Neubauer countered with 6-7 Sr. Timmy Knipp, 6-7 Jr. Ja’Mill Powell, 6-8 Sr. Eric Stutz, 6-2 Sr. Corey Walden, and 6-2 So. Isaac McGlone.
Eastern Kentucky led 33-26 at halftime but went cold from the field mid way through the second half and Belmont University escaped with a hard earned 53-52 victory. Eastern Kentucky had the last possession but Corey Walden missed a shot off the backboard in the closing seconds. The score was tied four times and there were seven lead changes in the game.
Belmont shot 34.5% from the field including eight of 28 from the three point line. They connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 13 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 44.2% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on nine of 10 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 12 Belmont turnovers.
Taylor Barnette led Belmont with 14 points including four three point baskets. Craig Bradshaw added 12 points including two three point baskets. Reece Chamberlain recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. Evan Bradds chipped in with six points and seven rebounds. Amanze Egekeze pulled down eight rebounds.
Eric Stutz led Eastern Kentucky with 18 points. Stutz was six of seven from the field including two of two from beyond the arc, and four of four free throws. Corey Walden added 12 points, four rebounds, and six steals. 6-5 Jr. Denzel Richardson chipped in with seven points and Timmy Knipp pulled down six rebounds.
