Bryan Station coach Champ Ligon started the following lineup:  6-6 Sr. Phillip Barner, 6-1 Sr. Mike Baffour, 6-11 Sr. Andrew Adams, 6-0 Sr. Joe Fain, and 5-10 So. Darius Waide.  Tates Creek coach Wayne Breeden countered with 6-3 Jr. Marcellus Barksdale, 6-2 Sr. Justin Daughtery, 6-4 Sr. Ezra Garner, 5-11 So. Darius Gibson, and 6-2 Jr. Ryan Fucci.

Tates Creek outscored Bryan Station 27-15 in the fourth quarter and pulled away in the last two minutes to defeat Bryan Station by a score of 72-64.  The victorious Commodores outscored Bryan Station 10-2 in the last two minutes.

Tates Creek shot 47.3% from the field including two of 12 from the three point line.  The Commodores connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 Bryan Station turnovers.  Bryan Station shot 48.1% from the field including two of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Defenders connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 12 Tates Creek turnovers.

6-5 Sr. Miles Potter and Marcellus Barksdale led Tates Creek with 15 points each.  Justin Daughtery and Ryan Fucci added 14 and 13 points respectively.

Phillip Barner led Bryan Station with 19 points.  Joe Fain and 6-6 Jr. James Evans added 13 and 10 points respectively.  Andrew Adams recorded eight points, four rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Scott county outscored Corbin 27-16 in the final quarter to pull away for a 73-62 victory.  The score was tied 30-30 at halftime and 46-46 at the end of three quarters.  Scott County scored 30 points off 25 Corbin turnovers.

Scott County shot 47% from the field including four of 10 from the three point lene.  The Cardinals connected on seven of 12 free throws and pulled down 41 rebounds.  Corbin shot 42.3% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Redhounds connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 20  Scott County turnovers.

Dakotah Euton led Scott County with 25 points including three three point baskets and pulled down 14 rebounds.  Ge-Lawn Guyn added 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals.  6-5 Jr. Tanner Shotwell came off the bench to record 13 points and seven rebounds.

IsaacWilson and Madison Johnson each recorded 18 points to lead Corbin tonight.  6-4 Sr. Aaron Manns came off the bench to add nine points.

Clay County outscored Henry Clay 20-7 in the third quarter to erase a 32-27 halftime deficit on their way to an 80-72 victory.  Clay County shot 57.1% from the field including seven of 12 from the three point line.  The Tigers connected on 17 of 21 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 51.9% from the field including nine of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on seven of seven free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 11 Clay County turnovers.

Kendale Reed led Clay County with 26 points including 12 of 13 from the free throw line.  5-8 Jr.  Allen Whitaker added 16 points including three three point baskets.  Codi Roberts recorded 14 points and he also connected on three three point baskets.  D.J. Wilson and 6-3 Jr. Matthew Mitchell also reached double figures with 10 points each.

Marquel Johnson led Henry Clay with 14 points including four three point baskets.  Daniel Kiesling added 13 points and five rebounds.  .Ryan Patton came off the bench to record 11 points including three three point baskets.  Wes Kimball chipped in with 10 points and seven assists.

Seven Hills coach Bob Werden started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Sarah Evans, 5-10 Sr. Haley Brunner, 6-2 Sr. Emily Rogers-Fightmaster, 5-5 So. Claire Duncan, and 5-0 Fr. Taylor Jackson.  Franklin County coach Joey Thacker countered with 5-11 Jr. Chelsea Rivers, 5-5 Fr. Raven Timmons, 5-10 Sr. Chelsea Craig, 5-6 Jr. Lacinda Hack, and 5-11 Sr. Andrea Howard.

Franklin County depth wore down Seven Hills in the second half to earn a 58-43 victory.  Seven Hills had four players unable to play today due to injuries and they only dressed eight players for the game.  Franklin County held a 19-4 advantage in second chance points and enjoyed a 23-0 advantage in bench scoring.

Franklin County shot 42.6% from the field including one of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 17 Seven Hills turnovers.  Seven Hills shot 45% from the field including zero of four from beyond the arc.  The Stingers connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored seven points off 11 Franklin County turnovers.

Chelsea Craig was unstoppable in the paint and led Franklin County with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Craig was nine of 12 from the field.  5-10 So. Ashli Mayes came off the bench to add 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Sarah Evans led Seven Hills with 25 points .  Claire Duncan added 10 points and six rebounds.

Lexington Christian raced out to a 63-33 lead after three quarters and rested their starters in the final quarter in a 74-54 victory over East Jessamine.  LCA held a commanding 54-35 advantage in rebounding tonight.

LCA shot 46.4% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on seven of 16 free throws, pulled down 54 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 18 East Jessamine turnovers.  East Jessamine shot 38.3% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Jaguars connected on four of 14 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 21 LCA turnovers.

Sarah Beth Barnette led LCA with 27 points and nine rebounds in only 19:38 minites of clock time.  Kelli Rinehart added 11 points and 11 rebounds and Kristin Jacob also recorded a double-double  with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  5-7 8th grade Katelin Bundy came off the bench to also reach double figures with 10 points.  Kelli Mitchuson dished out nine assists.

6-0 8th grader Alexus Calhoun came off the bench to lead East Jessamine with 17 points and five rebounds.  Brittany Quinn added 13 points and Emily Underwood recorded 11 points, eight assists, and four steals.

Lexington Catholic shot 36.8% from the field including nine of 23 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on 16 of 23 free throws and pulled down 39 rebounds.  Jackson County shot 37.5% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc.  The Lady Generals connected on nine of 12 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 15 Lexington catholic turnovers.

Octavia Wilson led Lexington Catholic with 19 points including five three point baskets.  5-9 Sr. Lexi Mullikin and 5-9 So. Jill Maronde added nine and seven points respectively.

Tenecia Tillery led Jackson County with 16 points and 14 rebounds.  Jessica Bowling added eight points including two three point baskets.

Scott County won an important early season game between 11th Region powers with a 62-50 victory over Tates Creek tonight.  The Cardinals scored 26 points off 20 Tates Creek turnovers and held a 13-5 advantage in bench scoring.

Scott County shot 36.5% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 20 of 24 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 20 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 35.6% from the field including two of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Commodores connected on 16 of 21 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Scott County turnovers.

Chad Jackson and Dakotah Euton each recorded 16 points and six rebounds for Scott County.  Euton also connected on three three point baskets.  6-7 Tanner Shotwell came off the bench to record 11 points and eight rebounds.

Ryan Fucci led Tates Creek with 27 points including 11 of 11 from the free throw line.  Miles Potter added six points.  Marcellus got in early foul trouble but recorded five points and eight rebounds.

Elizabethtown earned a big road victory with a 61-47 victory over Dunbar.  Elizabethtown did their damage from long range as they scored 24 points from behind the arc on eight of 17 for a 47.1% accuracy rate.

Elizabethtown shot 50% from the field including eight of 17 from the three point line.  The Lady Panthers connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 15 Dunbar turnovers.  Dunbar shot 37.7% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on three of six free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 12 Elizabethtown turnovers.

Kaylyn Cecil led Elizabethtown with 15 points including three three point baskets and dished out seven assists.  Hannah Hart added 14 points and five assists.  Adelaide Luckett recorded 12 points and eight rebounds.  Tara Gilpin pulled down seven rebounds.

Christin Haney led Dunbar with 14 points.  Ebony Rowe added 11 points and 13 rebounds.  Courtney Haney chipped in with eight points.

Kelli Mitchuson.  Lexington Catholic coach Tony Talbott countered with 5-8 Fr. Octavia Wilson, 5-11 So. Alex Botkin, 5-11 Sr. Madison Smith, 5-5 Sr. Meghan Cawood, and 5-6 Sr. Anna Gayle Scott.

Lexington Catholic won their first game of the season with a hard fought 62-54 victory over Lexington Christian Academy.  LCA pulled to within two; 56-54 late in the final quarter but Meghan Cawood hit four free throws down the stretch to ensure the victory.  Lexington Catholic held an impressive 41-28 advantage in rebounds and shot a blistering 53.3% (8-15) from the three point line.

Lexington Catholic shot 37.3% from the field including eight of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 22 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 39% from the field including seven of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on 15 of 23 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

Octavia wilson led the victors with 25 points including six three point baskets and recorded five steals.  5-9 Sr. Lexi Mullikan came off the bench to record 12 points and eight rebounds.  Alex Botkin added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Sarah Beth Barnette led LCA with 23 points including five three point baskets and pulled down seven rebounds.  Kristen Jacob added 16 points and 11 rebounds.  5-7 8th grader Katelin Bundy came off the bench to add eight points.

Taylor Barnette.  Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-4 Jr. Taylor Martin, 6-3 Jr. Scott Schuette, 6-8 Sr. Tanner Peurach, 6-0 Jr. Seth Beckham, and 6-1 So. Jaylen Beckham.

Lexington Catholic raced out to a 17-3 lead in the first quarter but LCA rallied to pull within three; 45-42 in the third quarter before LexCath closed out the quarter with an 11-2 run to enter the final quarter leading by a score of 56-44.  Lexington Catholic increased the margin to 20 points; 70-50 before LCA made a late run but Lexington Catholic prevailed by the final score of 76-68.

Lexington Catholic shot 52.3% from the field including eight of 19 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on 22 of 36 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 20 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 41.7% from the field including 10 of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 18 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

Lexington Catholic had five players in double figures tonight led by Jaylen Beckham with 20 points including three three point baskets and six rebounds.  Scott Schuette added 15 points including three three point baskets and also pulled down six rebounds.  Taylor Martin recorded 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Seth Beckham and Tanner Peurach added 10 points each.

Will Evans led LCA with 29 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists.  Taylor Barnette added 13 points including four three point baskets.  Evan Stephens recorded 10 points and seven rebounds.  5-9 Jr. Carter Helton also recorded 10 points.

Elizabethtown coach Tim Mudd started the following lineup: So. Kaylyn Cecil, 5-6 Jr. Hannah Hart, 5-11 Jr. Adelaide Luckett, 5-6 So. Tara Gilpin, and 5-6 Jr. Natalie Greenwell.  North Hardin coach James Slaven countered with 5-11 Sr. Destiny Bramblett, 5-4 So. Brianna Woodson, 5-11 Jr. Tkeyah Chatman, 5-3 Sr. Lexi Taft, and 5-5 Sr. Jennifer Smiley.

Elizabethtown trailed 42-35 entering the final quarter but rallied for a 48-46 victory.  Elizabethtown shot 33.3% from the field including five of 24 from the three point line.  The Lady Panthers connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 North Hardin turnovers.  North Hardin shot 37.8% from the field including five of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Trojans connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 17 Elizabethtown turnovers.

Natalie Greenwell led the victors with 24 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals.  Adelaide Luckett added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Destiny Bramblett led North Hardin with 13 points, six rebounds, and five steals.  Jennifer Smiley added 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  5-8 Fr. Chanel Roberts recorded 10 points and four steals.

Scott County  at  Sayre  (Girls)

Scott County coach Steve Helton started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Madisen Webb, 5-11 8th grader Tereka Guyn, 5-9 Jr. Alex McKenzie, 5-7 Sr. Breonna McKee, and 5-10 Jr. Kristen Stainback.  Sayre coach Scotty Sutton countered with 6-0 So. Maddie Mitchell, 5-9 Jr. Bea Cameron, 6-1 7th grader Gabby Bowie, 5-7 Sr. Anne MacNeil, and 5-7 Sr. Chanel Minnifield.

Scott County scored 26 points off 32 Sayre turnovers to earn a close 56-50 victory over Sayre tonight.  The Lady Cardinals had to depend on their defense as they were cold from both the field (26.7%) and the free throw line (51.7%) tonight.  Scott County held a 52-40 margin in rebounds and a 12-0 advantage in bench scoring.

Scott County shot 26.7% from the field including only one of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 15 of 29 free throws, pulled down 52 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 32 Sayre turnovers.  Sayre shot 41.9% from the field including zero of three from beyond the arc.  The Lady Spartans connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 18 Scott County turnovers.

Kristen Stainback led the victors with 17 points, five rebounds, and eight steals.  Madisen Webb added 15 points.  Alex McKenzie recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Tereka Guyn did not crack the scoring column but pulled down nine rebounds.

Anne MacNeil led Sayre with 20 points.  Maddie Mitchell added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Chanel Minnifield recorded nine points and six rebounds.

Battle of the Bluegrass

This event was held December 5th, 2009 at the Frankfort Civic Center in Frankfort KY.  There were seven games played with the first two being girls’ games and the last five featuring the boys.

Clay County  (0-0)  vs.  Marion County (0-0)  (Girls)

Marion County raced out to a 30-11 halftime lead on their way to a 54-35 victory over Clay County.  Marion County’s pressure defense forced Clay County into several turnovers in the first half when the game was decided.

5-9 Fr. Makayla Epps led Marion County with 20 points and 6-0 Sr. Jassmine Franklin added 11 points.  5-7 Jr. Brooke Roberts added nine points on three three point baskets.  5-7 Jr. Kayla Smith and 5-10 Sr. Jordan Phillips led Clay County with eight points each.  5-5  So. Alisha Mitchell and 6-1 Jr, Whitney Bell Jackson added six points each.  Jackson was hampered with foul problems today and fouled out with 4:38 remaining in the game.

Franklin County captured a hard fought 59-55 battle over Letcher County Central today.  Franklin County would take a double digit lead then Letcher County Central would battle back to close the margin.  Franklin County led 53-41 in the final quarter but Letcher County Central rallied to close the margin.

5-11 Sr. Chelsea Craig led the victors with 16 points.  5-11 Sr. Andrea Howard and 5-10 So. Ashli Mayes added 12 and 10 points respectively.  5-10 Sr. Shannon Bays, 5-5 Fr. Kelah Eldridge, and 5-9 Fr. Julie Cornett led Letcher County Central with 13, 13, and 11 points respectively.

Boone County defeated West Jessamine 57-51 in overtime today.  West Jessamin’s Dylan Pohl hit a three point basket in the closing seconds of regulation to knot the score at 45-45  and send the game to overtime.  Boone County behind Ryan Popp’s nine points in overtime took control and earned the victory.

6-0 Sr. Mike Gabbard led the victors with 19 points.  6-0 Sr. Ryan Popp added 11 points.  6-3 Sr. Jarrod Polson led West Jessamine with 15 points.  6-4 Jr. Dylan Pohl, 6-4 Sr. Gus Sherrow, and 5-11 Sr. Keston Bartholomew added 12, 12, and 10 points respectively.

Scott took advantage of their superiority on the boards to pull away in the final quarter to defeat Male by a score of 64-55.  6-4 Sr. Jacob Niederegger led the victors with 22 points, 18 coming in the first half.  6-4 Sr. Keylo Jones added 16 points and 11 rebounds.  6-1 Jr. Kellen Smith recorded 13 points.  5-11 Sr. D’Carlo Hayes led Male with 19 points.  6-0 Sr. Kevin Glenn and 6-2 Jr. Chris Way added 11 and nine points respectively.

Knott County Central pulled out a 65-58 decision in a very competitive battle.  6-1 Sr. Stuart Stamper led the victors with 27 points including four three point baskets.  6-2 So. Zack Davis added 11 points including three three point baskets.  6-1 Sr. Tate Cox who was plagued with foul problems added nine points.  6-1 Sr. Aaron Watts had an excellent game for McCreary Central and led the Raiders with 30 points including five three point baskets.  6-0 Sr. Zack Roark added 16 points.

Clay county defeated Franklin County in an entertaining hard fought battle with the Tigers winning by a score of 50-48.  6-5 Jr. Adam Gay led the victors with 16 points and showed range on his shot with two three point baskets.  6-3 Sr. D.J. Wilson also reached double digits with 13 points.  6-4 Sr. Vance Hall was very impressive tonight as he led Franklin County with 26 points.

Franklin-Simpson  vs.  Scott County (Boys)

Scott County scored 36 points off 26 Franklin-Simpson turnovers to pull away for an 85-63 victory.  The Franklin-Simpson team was very competitive in the first half but the Scott County defensive pressure finally took it’s toll.

Scott County shot 51.7% from the field including four of 10 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 19 of 32 free throws and pulled down 33 rebounds.  Franklin-Simpson shot 36.7% from the field including three of seven from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on 24 of 34 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 17 Scott County turnovers.

6-4 Sr. Chad Jackson led Scott County with 15 points, five assists, and four steals.  6-8 Sr. Dakotah Euton also recorded 15 points.  6-2 Sr. Ge-Lawn Guyn and 6-3 Sr. Austin Flannery recorded 13 and nine points respectively.

6-4 Sr. Mickey Lewis led Franklin-Simpson with 21 points and five rebounds.  6-2 Jr. Jalen Bell added 10 points and seven rebounds.  5-9 So. Jerrell Wickware recorded 10 points.
