Elizabethtown trailed 42-35 entering the final quarter but rallied for a 48-46 victory.  Elizabethtown shot 33.3% from the field including five of 24 from the three point line.  The Lady Panthers connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 North Hardin turnovers.  North Hardin shot 37.8% from the field including five of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Trojans connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 17 Elizabethtown turnovers.

Natalie Greenwell led the victors with 24 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals.  Adelaide Luckett added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Destiny Bramblett led North Hardin with 13 points, six rebounds, and five steals.  Jennifer Smiley added 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  5-8 Fr. Chanel Roberts recorded 10 points and four steals.

Scott County coach Steve Helton started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Madisen Webb, 5-11 8^th grader Tereka Guyn, 5-9 Jr. Alex McKenzie, 5-7 Sr. Breonna McKee, and 5-10 Jr. Kristen Stainback.  Sayre coach Scotty Sutton countered with 6-0 So. Maddie Mitchell, 5-9 Jr. Bea Cameron, 6-1 7^th grader Gabby Bowie, 5-7 Sr. Anne MacNeil, and 5-7 Sr. Chanel Minnifield.

Scott County scored 26 points off 32 Sayre turnovers to earn a close 56-50 victory over Sayre tonight.  The Lady Cardinals had to depend on their defense as they were cold from both the field (26.7%) and the free throw line (51.7%) tonight.  Scott County held a 52-40 margin in rebounds and a 12-0 advantage in bench scoring.

Scott County shot 26.7% from the field including only one of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 15 of 29 free throws, pulled down 52 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 32 Sayre turnovers.  Sayre shot 41.9% from the field including zero of three from beyond the arc.  The Lady Spartans connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 18 Scott County turnovers.

Kristen Stainback led the victors with 17 points, five rebounds, and eight steals.  Madisen Webb added 15 points.  Alex McKenzie recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Tereka Guyn did not crack the scoring column but pulled down nine rebounds.

Anne MacNeil led Sayre with 20 points.  Maddie Mitchell added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Chanel Minnifield recorded nine points and six rebounds.

This event was held December 5^th, 2009 at the Frankfort Civic Center in Frankfort KY.  There were seven games played with the first two being girls’ games and the last five featuring the boys.

Clay County  (0-0)  vs.  Marion County (0-0)  (Girls)

Marion County raced out to a 30-11 halftime lead on their way to a 54-35 victory over Clay County.  Marion County’s pressure defense forced Clay County into several turnovers in the first half when the game was decided.

5-9 Fr. Makayla Epps led Marion County with 20 points and 6-0 Sr. Jassmine Franklin added 11 points.  5-7 Jr. Brooke Roberts added nine points on three three point baskets.  5-7 Jr. Kayla Smith and 5-10 Sr. Jordan Phillips led Clay County with eight points each.  5-5  So. Alisha Mitchell and 6-1 Jr, Whitney Bell Jackson added six points each.  Jackson was hampered with foul problems today and fouled out with 4:38 remaining in the game.

Franklin County captured a hard fought 59-55 battle over Letcher County Central today.  Franklin County would take a double digit lead then Letcher County Central would battle back to close the margin.  Franklin County led 53-41 in the final quarter but Letcher County Central rallied to close the margin.

5-11 Sr. Chelsea Craig led the victors with 16 points.  5-11 Sr. Andrea Howard and 5-10 So. Ashli Mayes added 12 and 10 points respectively.  5-10 Sr. Shannon Bays, 5-5 Fr. Kelah Eldridge, and 5-9 Fr. Julie Cornett led Letcher County Central with 13, 13, and 11 points respectively.

Boone County defeated West Jessamine 57-51 in overtime today.  West Jessamin’s Dylan Pohl hit a three point basket in the closing seconds of regulation to knot the score at 45-45  and send the game to overtime.  Boone County behind Ryan Popp’s nine points in overtime took control and earned the victory.

6-0 Sr. Mike Gabbard led the victors with 19 points.  6-0 Sr. Ryan Popp added 11 points.  6-3 Sr. Jarrod Polson led West Jessamine with 15 points.  6-4 Jr. Dylan Pohl, 6-4 Sr. Gus Sherrow, and 5-11 Sr. Keston Bartholomew added 12, 12, and 10 points respectively.

Knott County Central pulled out a 65-58 decision in a very competitive battle.  6-1 Sr. Stuart Stamper led the victors with 27 points including four three point baskets.  6-2 So. Zack Davis added 11 points including three three point baskets.  6-1 Sr. Tate Cox who was plagued with foul problems added nine points.  6-1 Sr. Aaron Watts had an excellent game for McCreary Central and led the Raiders with 30 points including five three point baskets.  6-0 Sr. Zack Roark added 16 points.

Clay county defeated Franklin County in an entertaining hard fought battle with the Tigers winning by a score of 50-48.  6-5 Jr. Adam Gay led the victors with 16 points and showed range on his shot with two three point baskets.  6-3 Sr. D.J. Wilson also reached double digits with 13 points.  6-4 Sr. Vance Hall was very impressive tonight as he led Franklin County with 26 points.

Franklin-Simpson  vs.  Scott County (Boys)

Scott County scored 36 points off 26 Franklin-Simpson turnovers to pull away for an 85-63 victory.  The Franklin-Simpson team was very competitive in the first half but the Scott County defensive pressure finally took it’s toll.

Scott County shot 51.7% from the field including four of 10 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 19 of 32 free throws and pulled down 33 rebounds.  Franklin-Simpson shot 36.7% from the field including three of seven from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on 24 of 34 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 17 Scott County turnovers.

6-4 Sr. Chad Jackson led Scott County with 15 points, five assists, and four steals.  6-8 Sr. Dakotah Euton also recorded 15 points.  6-2 Sr. Ge-Lawn Guyn and 6-3 Sr. Austin Flannery recorded 13 and nine points respectively.

6-4 Sr. Mickey Lewis led Franklin-Simpson with 21 points and five rebounds.  6-2 Jr. Jalen Bell added 10 points and seven rebounds.  5-9 So. Jerrell Wickware recorded 10 points.

Ballard raced out to a 43-28 lead during the second quarter and held on down the stretch to defeat Scott County by a score of 84-81 in an early season test between two traditional state roundball powers.  Ballard was hot from the three point line in the first half as they were nine of 19 from behind the arc at the intermission.

Ballard shot 46.3% from the field including 10 of 28 from the three point line.  The Bruins connected on 12 of 23 from the free throw line, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 16 Scott County turnovers. Ballard also held a 30-4 advantage in bench points.  Scott County shot 41.3% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on 24 of 36 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 19 Ballard turnovers.

Ian Chiles led Ballard with 21 points including four three point field goals.  Chiles also pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out five assists.  Tyrell Means dominated late in the game and scored 14 points.  Keisten Jones and Devante Parker recorded 12 and 11 points respectively.

Ge-Lawn Guyn led Scott County with 22 points and six rebounds.  Chad Jackson added 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven steals.  Dakotah Euton added 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Tamron Manning and Austin Flannery added 11 and 10 points respectively.

 Tates Creek shot 53.7% from the field including two of four from the three point line.  The Commodores connected on 22 of 31 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored eight points off nine Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 32% from the field including three of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on 18 of 26 free throws, pulled down 15 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 21 Tates Creek turnovers.

 Ryan Fucci led Tates Creek with 23 points.  Marcellus Barksdale added 16 points and nine rebounds.  Ezra Garner recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Ballard defeated Bryan Station tonight by a score of 79-47.  Turnovers were the achilles' heel tonight for the Bryan Station Defenders as the Bruins scored 27 points off 34 Bryan Station turnovers.  Ballard raced out to an 18-9 first quarter lead, stretched the margin to 45-20 at halftime and coasted to the victory.

Ballard shot 33.3% from the field including six of 29 from the three point line.  The Bruins connected on 25 of 30 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 34 Bryan Station turnovers.  Bryan Station shot 31.6% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Defenders connected on eight of 18 free throws, pulled down 52 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 15 Ballard turnovers.

Ian Chiles led Ballard with 16 points and seven rebounds.  DeVante Parker added 13 points.  Drew Hardin and Keisten Jones each recorded 10 points.

Lincoln County got a big road win with a 50-48 victory over Lexington Catholic.  The third quarter proved to be the deciding factor as Lincoln County erased a 34-24 halftime deficit to take a 39-38 lead entering the final period. 

Lincoln County shot 32.1% from the field including three of 20 from the three point line.  The Lady Patriots connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 23 Lexington Catholic turnovers.  Lexington Catholic shot 29.1% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Knights connected on 14 of 25 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 24 Lincoln County turnovers.

Jessica Upchurch led Lincoln County with 15 points and seven rebounds.  Nikki Bustle added 10 points and Kendra Brown chipped in with eight points, eight rebounds, and six blocked shots.  Shelby Smith also recorded eight points.

Scott County at Paul Dunbar (Girls) December 2, 2009

Scott County defeated Paul Dunbar by a score of 68-63.  This was a game of runs as Scott County took a 29-19 lead in the first half before Dunbar went on an 11-0 run to take a 30-29 lead late in the second quarter. Dunbar held a 54-51 lead in the final quarter before Scott County went on their own 11-0 run to take a 62-54 lead.  The Lady Cardinals survived a late rally by Dunbar to earn the victory.

5-10 Jr. Kristen Stainback led Scott County with 25 points including 11 in the fourth quarter.  5-11 Sr. Madisen Webb and 5-10 Jr. Alex McKenzie added 12 points each.  5-4 Jr. Christin Haney led Dunbar with 22 points.  6-1 Sr. Ebony Rowe added 19 points and pulled down 26 rebounds.

2009 Kentucky Girls Middle School Eighth Grade Tournament

This tournament was held at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington Kentucky on November 14-15 with the championship being held at Rupp Arena on November 27th.  Twenty-six teams were scheduled to play in this event.

Elite Eight

Crosby 55 Stuart Pepper 44 (Quarterfinal) - Tabitha Mitchell and Erika Hawkins led Crosby with 20 and 10 points respectively.  Raley Johnson led Stuart Pepper with 23 points.

Anderson County 50  Casey County 35 (Quarterfinal) - Makenzie Cann, Eriel McKee, and Destiny Stewart led Anderson County with 16, 13, and 12 points respectively.  Haley Owens led Casey County with 17 points.

Whitley County 37  Powell County 33 (Quarterfinal) - Kandace Craig and Brandy Smith led Whitley County with 14 and 10 points respectively.  Erica Rogers led Powell County with 15 points including three three point baskets.  Kelsey Rogers added 11 points.

Corbin 28  Clay County 24 (Quarterfinal) - Miranda Wilson led Corbin with 13 points.  Sara Robinson led Clay County with 11 points.

Anderson County 42  Crosby 27 (Semifinal) - Makenzie Cann led Anderson County with 23 points including three three point baskets.  Eriel McKee added nine points.  Tabitha Mitchell, Erika Hawkins, and Carolyn Howell led Crosby with nine, seven, and seven points respectively.

Whitley County 35  Corbin 31 (Semifinal) - Whitley County rallied in the final quarter to defeat Corbin and advance to the championship game.  Hallie Jones led Whitley County with 11 points.  Miranda Wilson and Lindsey Barton led Corbin with 11 and eight points respectively.

Anderson County 34  Whitley County 26 (Championship) - Anderson County pulled away in the final quarter to claim the championship.  Destiny Stewart led the rally with nine points in the final quarter.  Eriel McKee and Stewart led the victors with 13 and 10 points respectively.  Hallie Jones and Brandy Smith led Whitley County with 10 and eight points respectively.

Lexington Christian Academy 35  Hazard 28 - LCA raced out to a 35-14 lead and held on down the stretch for the victory.  Hazard marched to the LCA 8 yard line but a fourth down pass fell incomplete.  Domonique Hayden led LCA with 178 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries.  Branden Burdette caught a 58 yard TD pass from Lucas Witt and scored on a 99 yard kickoff return.
