Friday August 28th

Mercer County (0-1)  vs.  Tates Creek (0-1)

 

Tates Creek rallied for a 41-36 comeback victory after suurendering a 29-7 third quarter lead.  Mercer County scored 29 consecutive points including two interception returns for touchdowns to take a 36-29 lead with 4:04 remaining in the game.  Then lightning struck for the second time for Tates Creek as Damon Boggs returned the ensuing kickoff for 87 yards and a TD.  Boggs had returned a kickoff 95 yards and a score in the first half.  Myles Atkins' kick was blocked and Tates Creek still trailed 36-35.

Myles Atkins attempted an onside kick and recovered his own kick at the Mercer County 49.  Brandon Shrout scored on an 11 yard run to give Tates Creek a 41-36 lead with 3:05 remaining on the clock.  The conversion pass failed and the Commodores held on for the win.

Tates Creek recorded 19 first downs and 286 yards of total offense.The Commodores were penalized six times for 61 yards and had two passes intercepted.  Mercer County recorded 11 first downs and 223 yards of total offense.  The Titans were penalized six times for 52 yards and lost a fumble.

Jontez Jones led the Tates Creek ground attack with 75 yards on 13 carries.  Brandon Shrout added 51 yards and a TD on 12 carries.  Dee Christopher completed nine of 21 passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.  LaRobert Bett caught three passes for 30 yards and a TD.  Anthony Bell also caught three passes for 18 yards and a TD.  Damon Boggs returned three kickoffs for 182 yards including TDs of 95 and 87 yards.  Cam Ruddell led the defense with three solo and five assisted tackles.  Jacob Kadel added four solo and two assisted tackles.  Jon. Meadors recorded three solo and four assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 13 yards.

Russell Mays led Mercer County's ground game with 47 yards and a TD on five carries.  Tre Dunn added 38 yards on nine carries.  Dunn completed three of nine passes for 81 yards and a TD.  Jamel Taylor caught three passes for 18 yards and a TD.  Alajwon Dean led the defense with eight solo and four assisted tackles.  Austin Lathrem added five solo and three assisted tackles.  Matthew Sims and Isaiah Burrus each had interception returns for touchdowns.

Shelby County (0-0)  vs.  Bryan Station (1-0)

 

Bryan Station erased a 20-10 halftime deficit to defeat Shelby County 38-26.  Both teams showed a lot of promise on offense with the ability to move the ball on the ground and through the air.  Both teams suffered injuries to key players as Chaz Mitchell (Bryan Station) left the game in the first half and Ben Axline (Shelby County) was taken off the field in an ambulance in the final period.

Bryan Station recorded 21 first downs and 383 yards of total offense.  The Defenders were penalized five times for 25 yards, lost a fumble and had a pass intercepted.  Shelby County recorded 21 first downs and 385 yards of total offense.  The Rockets were penalized four times for 44 yards and lost two fumbles.

Tevin McCaden had another big night as he led Bryan Station's ground game with 263 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries.  Brady Boling completed five of nine passes for 106 yards and one TD with one interception.  Chaz Mitchell caught two passes for 34 yards.  Jordan Taylor led the defense with eight solo and two assisted tackles.  Kris Bolton added five solo and three assisted tackles.  Nahee Calderon recorded four solo and five assisted tackles.

Quinten Cottrell led Shelby County's ground game with 97 yards on 11 carries.  Edwin Thomas carried the ball 14 times for 96 yards.  Branden Cresap completed 13 of 24 passes for 156 yards and a TD.  Ben Axline caught four passes for 50 yards and one TD.  Kris Taylor led the defense with three solo and six assisted tackles.  Robert Rogers added five solo and one assisted tackle.

Saturday  August 29th

Henry Clay (0-0)  vs.  Central (0-1)

Henry Clay's defense forced six Central turnovers and Henry Clay QB Jerry Williams got it done on the ground and in the air in a 34-21 victory.

Henry Clay recorded 16 first downs and 361 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized 12 times for 101 yards and lost two fumbles.  Central recorded 18 first downs and 338 yards of total offense.  The Yellowjackets were penalized six times for 45 yards, lost two fumbles and had four passes intercepted.

Jerry Williams led the Henry Clay ground attack with 90 yards including a 71 yard TD run on five carries.  Bo Brooks added 61 yards and a TD on eight carries.  Williams completed 13 of 21 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns.  Branden Johnson caught six passes for 91 yards.  Carwell Gardner added 39 yards and a TD on two receptions.  Aaron Akidil led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles with 3.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 19 yards. Weston Johnson added three solo and four assisted tackles.  Matt Cox recorded a 56 yard fumble recovery and return for a touchdown and two interceptions.

Anthony Wales led Central's ground game with 90 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries.  Chris King completed 13 of 27 yards for 229 yards with four interceptions.  Stephan Robinson caught six passes for 131 yards.  Diaz Bolden added three receptions for 51 yards.  Tim Patterson led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles.  Three of his tackles resulted in losses of seven yards.  Kerry Cornelius added six solo tackles.

Boone County (0-0)  vs.  Lafayette (1-0)

 

Boone County utilized a balanced offense and an opportunistic defense forced two fumbles in the third quarter to earn a 31-23 victory over Lafayette.  Boone County's trademark rushing attack did their job tonight and the ground game was complimented by 134 aerial yards.

Boone County recorded 19 first downs and 343 yards of total offense.  The Rebels were penalized seven times for 30 yards and lost one fumble.  Lafayette recorded 14 first downs and 248 yards of total offense.  The Generals were penalized eight times for 59 yards and lost two fumbles.

Charles Quainoo led the Boone County ground game with 101 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries.  Jordan Oppenheimer added 97 yards on 10 carries.  Nate Alford completed nine of 16 passes for 134 yards and one TD.  6-4 260 pound TE Trevan Brown caught four passes for 74 yards including a 10 yard scoring reception.  Jake Deason led the defense with seven solo and one assisted tackle.  Cole Wendeln added five solo tackles.

Eric Shaw Jr. led the Lafayette ground game with 74 yards and a TD on 11 carries.  Brett Durbin completed eight of 15 passes for 106 yards and a TD.  Shaw Jr. caught four passes for 49 yards.  Marlon Johnson added two receptions for 32 yards and a TD.  Johnson also returned three kickoffs for 140 yards including a 65 yard return.  Cody Perkins led the defense with six solo and eight assisted tackles.  Eric Shaw Jr. added seven solo and five assisted tackles.

Butler  vs.  Paul L. Dunbar

 

Butler averaged 7.7 yards per carry on 48 rushing attempts in a 34-14 victory over Dunbar.  Butler recorded 22 first downs and 371 yards of total offense.  The Bears were penalized 11 times for 116 yards, lost a fumble and had one pass intercepted.  Dunbar recorded 15 first downs and 216 yards of total offense.  The Bulldogs were penalized five times for 30 yards and lost a fumble.

DeAngelo Thomas led the Butler ground attack with 169 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries.  Tyler Sharp carried the ball nine times for 99 yards with one TD.  Tony Overall recorded 81 yards and a TD on eight carries.  Zach Lucas was zero of four in passing attempts with one interception.  Tyler Sharp led the defense with three solo and five assisted tackles.  Sedrick Grant added four solo tackles.

Trent Martin led Dunbar's ground game with32 yards on six carries.  Martin completed 14 of 23 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown.  Kendall Davis caught five passes for 62 yards.  Paul Jones added 29 yards and a TD on three receptions.  Kendall Davis led the defense with five solo and six assisted tackles.  Dee Hardin added four solo and two assisted tackles.

Week Four in Review September 11-12

Friday September 11th

Henry Clay 21  Scott County 7 - Henry Clay scored from long range twice in the second half to earn the victory.  Blake Green scored on an 85 yard run and Vinny Miller threw a 95 yard HB pass to Branden Johnson for a TD.

Bryan Station 21  Western 17 - Bryan Station RB Tevin McCaden carried the ball 31 times for 167 yards and a TD to lead the Defenders to a come-from-behind victory over Western.

Anderson County 42  Mercer County 21 - Anderson County QB Jacob Russell hooked up with Grant Cox on TD strikes of 47, 76, and 70 yards to lead the Bearcats to victory.

Lafayette 26  Franklin County 14 - Eric Shaw Jr. gained 240 yards and scored two TDs on 21 carries and scored on a 67 yard kickoff return to lead the Generals to victory.

Paul Dunbar 13  George Rogers Clark 7 - John Rose scored on a 64 yard pass from Trent Martin and a three yard run to lead the Bulldogs to victory.

Lexington Christian Academy 55  Christian Academy of Louisville 27 - LCA  QB Lucas Witt completed 11 of 25 passes for 222 yards with scoring strikes of 47, 45, 6, and 51 yards.  Witt also gained 92 yards on six rushing attempts.  Domonique Hayden carried the ball 19 times for 115 yards and scored on runs of 5, 3, and 11 yards and added TD receptions of 47 and 45 yards.

Perry County Central  37  Breathitt County 14 - Jordan Amis carried the ball 17 times for 142 yards with TD runs of 5, 39, and 1 yards to lead Perry County Central to victory.

Somerset 48  Danville 7 - Eric Manning  threw for five TDs in a big win over the Admirals.

Highlands 21  Cincinnati Withrow (OH) 0 - Austin Collinsworth carried the ball 12 times for 185 yards and scored on runs of 66 and 18 yards to lead the Bluebirds to victory.

Lexington Catholic (2-1) at Lone Oak (3-0) September 11th
Topic: Football

Lone Oak rolled up 649 yards of total offense and survived a tremendous comeback by Lexington Catholic to earn a 52-49 victory in overtime.  Lone Oak rolled up an impressive 408 yards of rushing with two players going over the century mark.  Lone Oak led 42-20 early in the fourth quarter but LexCath roared back to tie the game at 49-49 with 11 seconds remaining in regulation.  LexCath missed a field goal attempt but Jack Coorts nailed a 25 yard field goal to give the home team a big victory.

Lone Oak recorded 27 first downs and 649 yards of total offense.  They were penalized eight times for 58 yards and lost a fumble.  Lexington Catholic recorded 20 first downs and 496 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized 12 times for 115 yards.

Cameron Looper led the Lone Oak ground game with 142 yards and a TD on 16 carries.  The team was credited with two carries for 117 yards.  Matt Starks carried the ball 14 times for 109 yards and four touchdowns.  Looper completed 19 of 25 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns.  Matt Starks caught eight passes for 81 yards and a TD.  Joe Starks added six receptions for 69 yards and Jared Hill chipped in with five catches for 93 yards and a TD.

Greg Raglin led Lexington Catholic's ground game with 146 yards and a TD on 25 carries.  Nic Ward completed 21 of 37 passes for 337 yards and five touchdowns.  Ryne Least caught nine passes for 221 yards and three TDs.  Billy Jack Brown caught four passes for 22 yards.  Nate Letton led the defense with five solo and four assisted tackles.  Michael Cornett added four solo and six assisted tackles.

Bryan Station improved their record to 4-0 with a hard earned 21-17 over Western tonight.  Bryan Station recorded 13 first downs and 266 yards of total offense.  The Defenders were penalized seven times for 68 yards, lost a fumble and had one pass intercepted.  Western recorded 17 first downs and 329 yards of total offense.  Western was penalized seven times for 47 yards and had one pass intercepted.

Tevin McCaden led the Bryan Station ground game with 167 yards and a TD on 31 carries.  Brady Boling completed seven of 10 passes for 85 yards and a TD with one interception.  Austin Hendron and Tevin McCaden each caught two passes for 40 and 21 yards respectively.  Kris Bolton led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles.  Tim Hayden added six solo tackles.

Scott County (2-0) at Henry Clay (2-0) September 11th

Henry Clay scored on two long distance plays in the third quarter on their way to a 21-7 victory over Scott County.  Blake Green scored on an 85 yard run to give the Blue Devils a 14-0 lead.  Scott County cut the margin to seven; 14-7 on a 17 yard pass from Tevin Buffin to James Happy.  Henry Clay dialed long distance again with a 95 yard halfback pass from Vinny Miller to Branden Johnson.  Henry Clay played the second half without the services of starting QB Jerry Williams who left the game with an injury in the first half.  Henry Clay's defense did an excellent job holding the potent Scott County ground game to 125 yards on 49 carries.

Henry Clay recorded nine first downs and 394 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized 11 times for 93 yards and lost a fumble.  Scott County recorded 19 first downs and 259 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized three times for 15 yards and lost a fumble.

Blake Green led Henry Clay's ground attack with 107 yards and a TD on two carries.  Bo Brooks added 65 yards on seven carries.  Jerry Williams recorded 52 yards and a TD on three carries.  Williams completed two of eight passes for 29 yards.  Vinny Miller completed his only pass attempt for a 95 yard TD.  Branden Jihnson caught two passes for 115 yards and a TD.  Weston Johnson led the defense with five solo and 12 assisted tackles.  Johnson also recovered a fumble.  Aaron Akidil added seven solo and five assisted tackles.  Ryan Smith chipped in with five solo and five assisted tackles.  Cy Curnutte recorded one solo and 11 assisted tackles.
