Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Scott Chalk started the following lineup: 6-5 Jr. Tim Hall Jr., 6-4 Jr. Zach Carter, 6-8 Jr. Lionel Kumwimba, 6-0 So. Nick Spalding, and 6-1 Jr. Max VanDyke.  Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-5 Jr. Jack Gohmann, 6-5 So. Hudson Sparks, 6-10 So. Reece Potter, 6-1 Sr. Ryan Russell, and 6-3 Sr. Ben Johnson.

 

This two day event was publicized as a match-up pitting #1 Lexington Catholic vs. #2 North Laurel but someone forgot to tell the talented Dunbar squad as they upset Lexington Catholic 65-57.  The score was tied 43-43 after three quarters but the Bulldogs pulled away in the final quarter to earn the victory.  There were seven lead changes and 10 ties in this game.  Lexington Catholic did not have an answer today for Nick Spalding (25 points) and Tim Hall Jr. (23 points and 19 rebounds).  Dunbar shot 44.4% from the field including four of 14 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 13 of 19 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 14 Lexington Catholic turnovers.  Lexington Catholic shot 39.6% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 14 Dunbar turnovers.

 

Nick Spalding led Paul Laurence Dunbar with 25 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Tim Hall Jr. added 23 points and 19 rebounds. 

 

Ben Johnson led Lexington Catholic with 32 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jack Gohmann added nine points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

North Laurel vs. Ashland Blazer (Boys)

 

North Laurel coach Nate Valentine started the following lineup: 6-4 So. Ryan Davidson, 6-0 So. Brody Brock, 6-2 Jr. Caden Harris, 5-11 Jr. Clay Sizemore, and 6-3 So. Reed Sheppard.  Ashland Blazer coach Jason Mays countered with 6-2 Fr. Zander Carter, 6-1 Jr. Ethan Sellars, 6-8 Sr. Sean Marcum, 5-11 So. Colin Porter, and 6-2 Jr. Cole Villers.

 

Ashland Blazer connected on 15 three point baskets including 10 in the first half in an 86-66 upset victory over #2 North Laurel.  Ashland shot 52.5% from the field including 15 of 26 from the three point line.  The Tomcats connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 16 North Laurel turnovers.  North Laurel shot 56.8% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Jaguars connected on 13 of 15 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored six points off six Ashland turnovers.

 

Ethan Sellars led Ashland Blazer with 37 points including seven three point baskets, , three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Cole Villers added 19 points including three three point baskets, two rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Colin Porter recorded 14 points, three rebounds, 12 assists, and three steals.  Zander Carter chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets, seven rebounds, and two assists.

 

Reid Sheppard led North Laurel with 34 points including 10 of 11 free throws, four rebounds, and five assists.  Ryan Davidson added 12 points and nine rebounds.

North Laurel coach Nate Valentine started the following lineup: 6-4 So. Ryan Davidson, 6-0 So. Brody Brock, 6-2 Jr. Caden Harris, 5-11 Jr. Clay Sizemore, and 6-3 So. Reed Sheppard.  Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-5 Jr. Jack Gohmann, 6-5 So. Hudson Sparks, 6-10 So. Reece Potter, 6-1 Sr. Ryan Russell, and 6-3 Sr. Ben Johnson.

 

Lexington Catholic rebounded from their first loss of the season with an 83-51 victory over North Laurel.  Lexington Catholic shot 51.7% from the field including 11 of 25 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 14 North Laurel turnovers.  North Laurel shot 32.7% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Jaguars connected on 14 of 17 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 10 points off nine Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

Ben Johnson led Lexington Catholic with 31 points including seven three point baskets, four of four free throws, seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.  Ryan Russell added 15 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Hudson Sparks recorded eight points and three rebounds.  6-8 So. John McCrear added six points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.

 

Reed Sheppard led North Laurel with 18 points including eight of nine free throws, 10 rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Ryan Davidson added 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Colin Porter, and 6-2 Jr. Cole Villers.  Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Scott Chalk countered with 6-5 Jr. Tim Hall Jr., 6-4 Jr. Zach Carter, 6-8 Jr. Lionel Kumwimba, 6-0 So. Ashland Blazer trailed 33-29 at halftime but rallied in the second half to earn a 76-64 victory over Paul Laurence Dunbar.  There were six ties and two lead changes in this game.  Ashland shot 42.9% from the field including seven of 16 from the three point line.  The Tomcats connected on 21 of 27 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 11 Paul Laurence Dunbar turnovers.  Paul Laurence Dunbar shot 41.8% from the field including five of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 14 points off seven Ashland turnovers.

 

Colin Porter led Ashland Blazer with 30 points including two three point baskets, 14 of 16 free throws, four rebounds, and four assists.  Cole Villers added 25 points including three three point baskets, seven rebounds, and four steals.  Ethan Sellars recorded 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists.  Sean Marcum chipped in with six points and eight rebounds.

 

Nick Spalding led Paul Laurence Dunbar with 27 points including four three point baskets and five rebounds.  Tim Hall Jr. added 15 points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Max VanDyke recorded seven points, five rebounds, and two steals.  Lionel Kumwimba chipped in with four points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.
