Eastern Kentucky University vs. Akron (Women)

Eastern Kentucky University coach Chrissy Roberts started the following lineup: 5-11 So. Bria Bass, 5-8 Jr. Shay Solomon, 5-11 Sr. Abby Wright, 5-6 So. Teri Goodlett, and 6-0 Jr. Catie Kaifes.  Akron coach Melissa Jackson countered with 6-2 Jr. Haliegh Reinoehl, 5-10 Sr. Megan Sefcik, 6-1 Jr. Caitlin Vari, 5-7 Fr. Gabrielle Brown-Mitchell, and 5-9 Jr. Shayna Harmon.

 

Eastern Kentucky trailed 48-46 after three quarters but Akron pulled away in the final quarter for a 64-53 victory.  Turnovers (22) and a disparity in free throw points (22-8) sealed the Colonels fate today as Akron was 12 of 16 from the free throw line in the decisive final quarter,  The score was tied four times and there were four lead changes in the game. 

 

Akron shot 28.8% from the field including seven of 24 from the three point line.  The Zips connected on 22 of 32 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 22 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 32.8% from the field including six of 28 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on eight of eight free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored five points off 10 Akron turnovers.

 

Megan Sefcik led Akron with 26 points including four three point baskets and 10 of 10 free throws.  Haliegh Reinoehl added 12 points and nine rebounds.  Caitlin Vari recorded six points and seven rebounds. 

 

Shay Solomon led Eastern Kentucky University with 18 points and eight rebounds.  Bria Bass added 13 points including three three point baskets and nine rebounds.  Catie Kaifes recorded nine points, 12 rebounds, and three assists.
