Madison Central vs. Bourbon County (Girls)

Bourbon County High School

Paris, KY

December 1, 2017

Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey started the following lineup: 5-7 So. Taleya Todd, 5-7 Sr. Blaze Pacheco, 5-10 So. Je’Kauri McKeithen, 5-6 Jr. Madison Barnard, and 5-5 Sr. Bailey Vanover.  Bourbon County coach Bill Watson countered with 5-7 Jr. Laurin Bentley, 5-6 Sr. Ariana Penney, 5-9 Fr. McLain Murphy, 5-5 Sr. Abby Sparks, and 5-7 Jr. Kennedy Kelly.

Madison Central defeated Bourbon County tonight by the score of 59-53.  Madison Central led 31-15 in the second quarter but Bourbon County battled back but could not complete the comeback.  I will not tell you this was a pretty game with a total of 36 fouls and 59 turnovers; far from it.  However, I will say it was a hard played, competitive game with both teams showing a lot of heart with Madison Central bending but not breaking and Bourbon County refusing to give up.  I thoroughly enjoyed working and viewing the game and I applaud both teams for their heart and effort.

Madison Central shot 39.3% from the field including six of 15 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on nine of 17 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 33 Bourbon County turnovers.  Bourbon County shot 33.3% from the field including three of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 12 of 21 free throws, pulled down 48 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 26 Madison Central turnovers.

Taleya Todd led Madison Central with 18 points including three three point baskets, three assists, and four steals.  Madison Barnard added 15 points, six rebounds, and eight steals.  Bailey Vanover was double teamed most of the night but managed 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals and made some big plays down the stretch.  Je’Kauri McKeithen added eight points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots despite being limited to 12:53 minutes of playing time before she fouled out of the game. Blaze Pacheco added six points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

McLain Murphy led Bourbon County with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Kennedy Kelly added 12 points, four assists, and three steals.  5-6 Sr. Millie Evans recorded nine points and four rebounds.  Laurin Bentley pulled down 12 rebounds, dished out two assists, and recorded three steals.
