Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Sarah Bridenbaugh started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Nicole Armstrong, 5-5 Sr. Kristina Rosen, 6-2 Sr. Brooke Todd, 5-4 So. Izzy Ighodaro, and 5-4 Sr. ShaKeema Jackson.  Lafayette coach Allison Denton countered with 6-1 Sr. Sarah Cooley, 5-11 Sr. Dee Givens, 6-4 Jr. Ashanti Thomas, 5-7 Sr. Megumi Nagahiro, and 5-8 Sr. Ken’yale Demus.

Nicole Armstrong nailed a three point basket with two seconds on the clock to give Paul Laurence Dunbar a 52-49 victory over Lafayette in a hotly contested Lexington city war today.  Lafayette’s Ken’yale Demus had tied the score at 49-49 with a three point bomb of her own with 34 seconds left on the clock.  There were five lead changes and eight ties in this game.  Dunbar drove relentlessly to the basket in the last quarter and was successful in drawing fouls as they were 15 of 21 from the free throw line in the final quarter.  Lafayette’s Dee Givens and Dunbar’s Brooke Todd both fouled out in the closing minutes.

Dunbar shot 29.4% from the field including five of 21 from the three point line.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on 17 of 25 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored seven points off 14 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 32.1% from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Generals connected on 11 of 22 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored nine points off 10 Dunbar turnovers.

ShaKeema Jackson led Dunbar with 21 points including three three point baskets.  Izzy Ighodaro added 15 points including nine of 14 free throws.  Brooke Todd pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked shots.  Nicole Armstrong chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.

Ken’yale Demus led Lafayette with 11 points including three three point baskets.  Ashanti Thomas added 10 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Dee Givens also scored 10 points and recorded five steals.  Sarah Cooley recorded nine points and 11 rebounds and 5-11 Fr. Kiara Pankins also scored nine points.
