I Don't Want to Fall Asleep Tonight I Know My Time is Drawing Near
|
I shall do every deed the
white man tells. I say good-bye to
family and friends. Darkness gives me weakness that I
must fight. And now I hear my heartbeat
slowing down. Angels came down, to God I shall
return. Personal Note: Back at high school, I learned about the slavery of African Americans. I never knew that they wrote songs about God and their experiences as a slave. I wrote this poem as homework for a literature class but I wish to add it in "Poems To Inspire." It is only strong people who can create something beautiful even in turmoil so I acknowledge the faith of those Africans. I hope they did find a better life after death. |
