REGULAR MEMBER A person who is entitled to vote at the annual election for a local league, and entitled to attend any meeting of the membership of the league. Membership, and who receives it, is defined in the local league's constitution. However, any manager, coach, volunteer umpire or board member is automatically a regular member.

Relief Pitcher Pitcher who substitutes for a pitcher in the starting line up

RETOUCH the bases  Baserunner must return and touch the base he occupied when a hit was made if it was illegal or if a pop fly is caught by the offense (see TAG-UP)

When a runner attempts to advance to the next base on a fly ball or pop-up that is caught by a fielder. In order to tag up, a runner must have at least one foot on the base he or she is occupying when the ball is caught. Once the ball is caught, the runner can attempt to advance to the next base, and must be tagged before reaching the base in order to be called out. If the defensive team feels the runner left the previous base before the ball was caught, the defense may appeal the play to the umpire by calling "time" and tagging the previously occupied base. If the umpire determines that the runner did leave the base before the ball was caught, the runner is called out.

RHB   Right-Handed Batter

RHP   Right-Handed Pitcher

"ride the pine"   To sit on the bench.

Run Batted In   A run that is caused by a batter's action at the plate, unless the batter hits into a double-play.

Run Down  A baserunner is trapped between bases in a hot box, the defensive side then try to tag the runner while he avoids it.

run on anything   an instruction given to a base runner to run on any ball that is hit when there are two outs.

RUNNER   An offensive player who is advancing toward, touching, or returning to any base.
