Vanguard Magic is an extension of normal Magic. Each person will assume the role of a character of his choice. Whatever character they choose will give them special abilities. These abilities cannot be removed from play. In addition to the abilities of each character they will also determine how much life you start with and your hand size, max size and starting size. Here are the characters that you may choose from:

playing. So, if you are playing Type 1, Type 1.5, Type 2, or Extended
Vanguard then, follow that format’s Banned and Restricted List.
“Paris” Mulligan is used for this variant.
Before each game begins, a player may, for any reason, reshuffle and
redraw his hand, drawing one less card. This may be repeated as often as
the player wishes, until he has no cards left in his and. After the
participant, who plays first, mulligans as often as he likes, the
decision of whether to mulligan passes to the other player. Once a

In July 1997, Wizards of the Coast released the first Vanguard set to game
shops to be used as an Arena Format. These were released as oversized
5" x 3.5" card. Later, in January 1998 they release Vanguard
II, once again to be used as an Arena Format. The third and final set
was release in November 1998 for the Arena Format.
