Here's where you'll find an update at least once per week. I'll be posting in this space my Movie of the Mont (and probably my CD of the month), as taken from my livejournal, and I will also be throwing up a new movie recommendation every week for you to check out. Enjoy!
Weekly (though with my rate of updates, more like bi-monthly) Recommendation!!! (usually of a title that's been on DVD for a while)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Movie and CD of the Month: July!
Movie of the Month: War of the Worlds
Tough tough choice this month. It all came down to .5 of a point on the Awesomes scale for this flick to beat out Burton's newest masterpiece Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for this coveted title. But Spielberg just hit it too far out of the park with a film that was just a little more up my ally on the "flicks I could watch over and over" scale. The suspense created in this flick is truly awe-inspiring, and is one of the few films to actually bring me to the edge of my seat. Charlie was chock full of amazing performances, images, and morals, but it just didn't connect with me quite as much as the plight of Tom Cruise and his family. Also of note, is the fact that I have still yet to see The Wedding Crashers. Now, I highly doubt it has any chance of toppling War of the Worlds, but you never know, right? RIGHT?!?!?
CD of the Month: Jason Mraz's Mr. A-Z
Now, there wasn't much of a choice here as this was the only new release I picked up in the month of July, but it would have taken quite the effort to top it. I've been a big fan of Mraz ever since Tim Dacey bought me his first album for Christmas '03. That's a really great album for anyone who doesn't have it yet. Really original stuff with an amazing vocal talent. When I first listened to Mr. A-Z I liked it, but I wasn't blown away. I felt pretty sure that while it might grow on me, it wouldn't be able to top Waiting For My Rocket to Come (his debut). HOLY SHIT was I wrong. This album blows his first out of the water! (remember, I'm a big fan of the first one). His songwriting has grown so much. He has really zeroed in on his strong points, and made an album that is exquisite from the first track to the last, full of incredible diversity while always maintaining his original sound. The lyrics are insightful, humorous, and meaningful; the vocals are stunning, and really run the emotional gamut; the arrangements are catchy, yet unpredictable. In other words, this album is awesome and you all need to go buy it RIGHT NOW!!!
