Movie of the Month: A Dirty Shame
I only saw two films this month, A Dirty Shame and Sky Captain. I had intended to see Wicker Park, but that falls under the time issue. I just plain ran out of it. If you read my review, you know that Sky Captain was a sizable disappointment for me, but A Dirty Shame came out or left field and redeemed the month. It's not necessarily a top 10 film; I certainly won't be buying it, but it was just a really enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half. It was clever, hilarious, had great performances, and was totally the opposite of what we typically see in film. With the oppressive nature of censorship that has been plaguing us since the Super Bowl, it was nice to see something that basically spat in the face of censorship. Check it out.
CD of the Month: Megadeth's The System Has Failed
What a return to form. This CD is still in regular rotation weeks after purchasing it. It is just a killer classic metal album, like no other that has come out since I've been enjoying the genre. It kicks my ass with every listen. The competition was the new Jordan Rudess as well as the new Jelly Jam, two unfortunate disappointments as I believe I noted in an earlier entry. I also picked up the new Green Day album which was pretty good on one listen. I really need to check it out again as I had a slight headache the last time I listened to it which marred my initial perceptions of it. But anyway, anyone who likes metal and doesn't have The System Has Failed yet is a shithead. Deal with it.
