Movie of the Month: Garden State
Here's a big surprise... :-P For anyone who actually tortures themself with reading my overblown and monotonous journal entries you would have seen the big, long, positively glowing review I did of this movie. It really just knocked the wind out of me, and was a total breath of fresh air in the midst of good but somewhat mediocre summer movies. I'd love to see this movie again in the theatre, and I actually think I might this friday. We'll see. If you haven't seen it yet, make sure that you do. It really hits on every level no matter who you are. The competition this month came from a really great movie in Collateral and a disappointing movie in Hero.
CD of the Month: Garden State Soundtrack
To be honest, I really thought that The Flower Kings had this honor all wrapped up, but I have just fallen in love with absolutely everything about this film, and the music was a big part of it. I mentioned it briefly in my review, but it really is just a perfect compilation of songs capturing a wide range of emotions while always adding seamlessly to the atmosphere of the images on screen. The CD itself manages to retain those feelings, and is a true pleasure to sit back and enjoy. I'm listening to it right now and it just puts me at total ease. I'll definitely be checking out more from some of the artists here such as Zero 7 ( who contributed the song In the Waiting Line) and Frou Frou (contributing the song Let Go which I absolutely love). Go see the movie and then you'll want the soundtrack too. Jordan Rudess' new solo album was released on August 31st, and I haven't gotten it yet so I'm just going to call it a september release and it will be up against Jelly Jam 2 which should be out next tuesday.
