MOVIE AND CD OF THE MONTH: JULY 2004!!!

Movie of the Month: The Village
I reviewed this movie in my previous entry, so feel free to check that out. The really crazy thing about this movie winning this coveted spot is that it wasn't even among the movies I had posted about wanting to see in July. I just kind built up this thing inside of me telling me that I wanted to see it, and I'm so happy I did. It's really just a marvel of cinematography. That's really my main reason for liking it. The story was great, the suspense was definitely there, the acting was spot on, and I certainly jumped a number of times, but the camera-work was really the star of this film. The others competing against it, in order of preference, were Anchorman, I Robot, King Arthur, and The Door in the Floor.

CD of the Month: Spider-man 2 Original Score
Danny Elfman is the man. He is absolutely one of my favorite film composers along with Howard Shore and John Williams. He just has such an original sound that can be heard in all of his films, and yet he adapts it so well to the feel and atmosphere of each individual project. The Spider-man score is completely different from his Batman score, but you can absolutely tell they are the same guy. I won't even get into the genius work that is the Nightmare Before Christmas. His competition this month was an album I never got around to reviewing: Adam Sandlar's latest called Shh... Don't Tell. It was really good, really funny, as you would expect, but I'd rank it as 4th among his 5 albums. What's Your Name? was just not all that good... I don't think he'll ever match up to his first two albums though...
