01/26/06 - Evolution
|
I saw Underworld: Evolution last night, and may I say, HOLY SHIT. I
wasn't certain they could pull it off, but they actually topped the
original. This movie was so good, that even though it was violent
and bloody pretty much from the get-go, (it starts off immediately
after the first one ends), I was able to overlook that and fully
appreciate the truly inspired storyline. I especially liked how they
dealt with the Corvinus brothers, though one thing about this does
bother me: the characters mentioned several times that to kill the
original vampire or werewolf would kill their entire line, and yet
the heroes, a rogue vampire and a Lycan-Vamp hybrid, actively set
out to kill them both. There was one occasion where the hinted that,
for the werewolves at least, this MAY have been a ruse, but there
was no further mention until . . . well, I can't spoil the ending,
now can I? Anyway, that's all I came online to say, nothing big
going on today. Had a snow day, but that just meant a day to lie
around and do nothing. Oh, but I sorted out some music files I
forgot were on my laptop's hard drive, cleared up almost half a
gigabyte. Whoo. Afterthought: While discussing U:E with a friend,
I realized something. Quite possible the best things I liked about
this movie were: 1) it fills in the back story that, in the first,
was spotty at best, and 2) it sets you up for a third. Ooh, another
trilogy, I hope we don't have to wait too long. |
01/22/06 - Happy Winter-een-mas!!
|
I can't think of much to write about right now, but I had to write
something, so here goes. The sequel to Underworld hit theatres
this weekend. I haven't seen it yet, but the original is one of my
favorites, so I'll definitely be seeing it soon. I was in Bay
Robert's the past two nights, saw Rupe, and we made tentative plans
to see it Wednesday night. By an interesting coincidence, Jason had
made plans to get a few people together to see it that night as
well, so there could conceivably be even more of us than went to the
last movie.
What else . . . oh, have you ever heard of Winter-een-mas? You
gotsa check it out:
http://nfldwem.proboards74.com/ . Big party planned for Primers
next Sunday, (the 29th), I hope I can make it! Maybe going
home that weekend too, but since it's Sunday night I may still be in
town early enough.
Thats it for now, but I'm sure to update later this week. At the
very least I'll let you know how the movie was, assuming I saw it as
planned . . . |
01/14/06 - Coffee? I don't drink coffee.
|
Heyo! How's ya doin? My last entry was kind of a downer, so I'll try
and keep an upbeat attitude this time. First of all, I saw a movie
last night with a few a friends. Get this: about half a dozen 20
year old men went to the movie theatre to watch "Hoodwinked", which,
if you're not aware, is a CG retelling of "Red Riding-Hood", the way
it really happened. This is one of the best, funniest
animated films EVER made. Its right up there with Shrek. I
particularly like the hyper-active squirrel, the mountain goat, and
"Triple-G". Afterward, we all got together and played Super Smash
Bros. Melee on the GCN and Goldeneye on N64. There was also some
very light drinking, but it seemed secondary and unnecessary, so
nobody actually got drunk. It was a great night though, a couple of
us actually kept playing until almost 5:30am. Lets see, not a lot
to report on right now, although there is a small update to my
profile page, under "About Me". Don't want to navigate?

01/10/06 - Same ol' Routine
|
Well, its Tuesday, I've been back in St. John's since Sunday, and I
guess I've gotten back into my normal routine, except that my
classes now start at 8 am and I've got a new set of roommates. I'll
have to get back to you on whether or not that's a good thing.
Last time I wrote was New Year's, after the party, right? Well,
since then things have been pretty boring. Maybe it's just a matter
of contrast, but it seems like I haven't been doing much lately, The
people I normally hang out with kind of vacated after the party,
going off to school or work, and I was stuck in the house, with my
family who got home that night. This isn't exactly a bad thing, but
you know how it is, cooped up with the same people day in, day out,
they tend to get on your nerves. The only other person who was
around the whole weak was Becka, and in the years I've known her,
she's NEVER been willing to do anything with just me, no matter what
the motivation. That's ok Becka, I'm less motivated myself lately.
The last weekend I spent home, (this one just past) Rupe came back
from St. John's and he, Heidi and I did go for a couple of drives.
As I was saying though, lately I've been feeling like its all too
routine. Its like I'm stuck in some kind of rut and I can't get out
of it. (Pre-Emptive scolding: "Grow up! I do not mean rut the way
they use it on Discovery Channel.") I know something needs to
change, I can only think of one area where I'm not either pleased
with my success or working to improve, and I've proven totally
clueless there. Of course, I don't know for sure that that's what
the problem is. As I said, it may simply be a matter of contrast.
Either way, I'd like everyone to do me a favor, and go listen to
a couple of songs: "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Kryptonite".
Some of you may see a theme there, but I assure you it has nothing
to do with superheroes. |

Happy New Year Everyone!
Last night I threw the party I'd
mentioned in the previous blog, and I must say, considering that the
last time I threw a party was my 13th birthday, I think I did pretty
good. We had a great time, (at least, no one complained, and I saw
smiles all around), and most people were willing to stay the night.
I didn't get drunk this time, in fact I didn't even drink as much as
I had planned, because every time I went to the kitchen, Sarah and
Becka would chase me out there, take my glass and bottle, and Sarah
would mix my drink for me. I've never seen anyone mix such a weak
drink! On the third one I finally mixed my own, but Sarah stole the
glass, and I had to promise I'd let Becka hide the bottle. BTW, in
case you were wondering, I was drinking Rum and coke, what Sarah
mixed was barely a single, and by the time I finished the first two
she'd drunk a full bottle of Strawberry wine. Anyway, this afternoon
when everyone was finally gone, after two hours of searching I
finally had to ask Becka where she had hidden it. I was kind of
disappointed when I saw that there was less than a quarter of the
flask missing.
Lets see, what else happened last night . . . we played Nintendo,
Watched a few episodes of "Invader Zim" on DVD, Becka, possible the
most sober person there, fell off the couch, and Heidi gave me a few
weird looks. When it was time to go to sleep, most of stayed in the
living room, but Rupert retreated upstairs to the futon in little
bros' room, and Becka tried to sleep in the plush leather armchair
she'd claimed, but became so uncomfortable that she had to go
upstairs to the loft and sleep under the Christmas Tree. led to an
amusing incident with a "truckload" of battery-operated candles, but
you kind of had to be there. Oh, and several times through the night
she also made certain comments that in previous years would have
been at my expense, but because of a recent revelation on my part,
backfired and caused her some fun mental images. Ooh, evil is fun .
. .
Ok, I'm putting the pics that were taken in a separate photo
album here on the site, right now I have one set out of four, I'll
update as I get more. | |
