Also known as a "desktop manager",  this type of program helps you get organized and keeps you organized.  It also helps you communicate with others.

Some common features of PIM (Personal Information Manager) programs include a calendar, an electronic address book, and a communications organizer.

Examples of popular PIM software are Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Organizer.
