Think of application software as the end-user software--people use it for a variety of different general-purpose tasks.  The programs most of us use are programs such as:

·   Word processing    

·   Electronic spreadsheets

·   Database managers

·   Graphics programs

·   Desktop publishing programs

·   Personal information managers

·  Communications programs

In the next few pages, I will explain a little about each type of program.
