YOUR NAME

Always keep your name clean, my child,
It is all you have that will last.
You came here with nothing at birth,
You’ll leave only deeds of your past.
You may be very wealthy
Or you may be destitute,
But all you have will remain
Immaterial and mute.
You need not have worldly fame
Or have a high position,
But honesty and kindness
Make better recognition.
So keep your name above reproach,
Keep watch on all you say or do.
Your name in years to come will be
In someone’s memories of you.
