My Christmas Greeting

Dear Santa,
If you do exist, (unlike the Easter Bunny)
I'm writing you a letter...my sister thinks it's funny.
She says you don't really know who's been good or bad ,
That Rudolph is a fairytale. I think that's very sad.
She says Mom fills the Christmas stockings,
And there is no such thing as an elf,
That Dad installed the batteries backwards,
(That's why "Chatty Cathy" talks mumbo-jumbo to herself!)
But I believe, I do believe that fairytales come true,
That reindeer fly thru the Christmas Eve sky,
And elves live in an Eskimo igloo,
That your beard is like cotton candy at a small town county fair,
That all my wishes will come true when I climb into your chair.
My six-year-old naivete' keeps the world brand new for me,
And guarantees I will always find
Miracles under my Christmas tree.
So back to why I'm writing you, one last thing to add to my list...
When you've finished your milk and cookies,
Please, sweet dear ol' Kris...
Tiptoe into my sister's room, light a candle in her wizened heart,
To faith and joy and innocence, re-ignite that Christmas spark…
That she and I might once again string popcorn and cranberries,
Hark the herald angels sing,
And dance with the sugarplum fairies.
