Family Christmas

Grandpa can’t seem to stop puttering, Grandma’s face is merrily aglow,
They’re anticipating the family’s arrival, and a big Christmas snow!
Grandma has on her Santa apron, and grandpa, his holiday vest.
They’ve been baking for days for the Community Cookie Contest.
Once the family has all assembled, they’ll drive to town to see the lights,
With mugs of mulled wine and hot cocoa, their souls jolly and spirits bright!
They will stroll down Grand Avenue lined with garland and wreaths,
Join a candlelight procession, and consume decadent Scandinavian treats!
The next afternoon they’ll gather blankets, and pile into a horse drawn sleigh
To ride all snuggled up thru the forest, jingling all the way.
They’ll carry on their tradition of cutting down the perfect Christmas tree,
Then they’ll rush back into town to join the winter jubilee.
They’ll brave the cold and snow and sub-zero windchills
To catch the Christmas parade and the fellowship it instills.
Christmas day will pass amid family chaos and commotion,
And presents adorned with ribbons and stickers and other such notions.
The leftover turkey and trimmings will be divided and packed
Into Tupperware containers for Monday’s dinner and snacks.
Grandma will give kisses on the porch as everyone collects to say goodbye,
While grandpa stands to one side with a smile, and a tear in his eye.
Then one by one, each family will load their car up and drive away
Car trunks and hearts full of bountiful blessings from the holiday!
