The 8U age division is a Machine Pitch League. This league provides the best opportunities to learn softball and have fun while learning. Here are some reasons why we recommend this league. a. We use machine pitch to develop hitting skills, and consequently fielding skills. No walks here! In fact, the flat pitch allows more hitting opportunities, and home runs. b. We allow stealing, one base at a time, to build running skills, and consequently catcher skills. Runner cannot steal home. c. We use real 11"softballs to develop hitting and fielding capabilities. N0 incrediballs like in Tball. d. We use 35 foot pitching (back leg of pitching machine against rubber) and 55ft bases. f. We allow one coach in the field to assist in training defensive players. g. We stress the importance of the girls to rely upon their own abilities. Having the better adult pitcher has no bearing in machine pitch. Coaches are able to spend more of their time helping the girls expand those abilities, both defensive and offensive. e.To help the girls get ready for the next big step - 10U BALL.
As with all our leaue we DO NOT recommend playing up in age divisions. This is recreational softball. If your team or your daughter wants to go for more than just recreation talk to your Commissioner about how to get on a more competitive team in your age division. More comeptitive teams will play tournaments. The more tournaments they play the more competitive they will become. A WORD ABOUT PLAYING TOURNAMENTS It is highly recommended that teams in the 8U division play atleast 1 tournament. Why? At the 8U age level the biggest difference between the great competitive teams and the AGSA recreational team is the ability to catch, throw, run and hit. If your daughter is exposed to tournaments at this age they will be so much more prepared when they are older and decide they really want to play softball. So many teams at the 10U level come back and say "We should have started tournaments when we were 8U" There is a giant difference between a 10U recreational team and a 10U class B team. There is even a bigger difference between a 10U B team and 10U A team. Teams will never have the opportunity to be so even with other teams your age than in the 8U age division. | ||||||||||||
