DESCENDANTS OF STEPHEN THOMAS

Stephen Thomas is the son of Christopher Jr of Queen Anne's County, Maryland. Along with others from Maryland, Stephen and chiildren moved to Anson North Carolina in the 1760's. At least two of Stephen's brother's also made the journey. This extended family has been the subject of much research.

For many years, it has been believed that Benjamin Thomas of upper Anson County was the son of Stephen as listed in the 1774 Anson County Court gaurdianship record. Thankfully for the persistant doubt expressed by respected researcher Mr. Howard Hazzlewood, we now know that Stephen's son Benjamin did not live and die in Anson County, North Carolina. Instead, he moved to Marlborough Co. SC, Motgomery Co. TN, Hickman Co. TN and then likey died in Pike Co. MS in the 1820's.

In securing my ancestry through Benjamin of Anson County, I had to disprove any connection to Stephen of Maryland. Much of the information that follows is related to that process. However, I have also included what little I learned about the other children of Stephen Thomas. If you have information online that adds to this information, please allow me to link to it.

Much of this would not be possible without the efforts of Helen Garner, Howard Hazzlewood, Robbie Landry, and Delores Davis. I thank you all.
