Scandalous topic!

We decided to write about this topic because it holds a valuable lesson to everyone involved.

A draft of this article was given to the coordinators, who actively combat the report and encouraged the writer to look beyond surface events of the camp. The result is this article. Certain claims in this article would not have been possible without thinking, praying and believing in God.

Valuable lessons have a tendency to flit in and out of minds in a matter of nanoseconds. Writing about the facts keeps the memories alive.

This also shows a valuable lesson on how events are captured in contemporary media.

Indiana's first YFC camp last August 3-5 was a troubled adventure for the 19 Illinois servants. But a message delivered by one of the couple coordinators (CC) shed light on the seemingly dire events that sent servants and participants alike thinking.

"1 Corinthians 3:7-9: Therefore neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who causes the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters are equal, and each will recieve wages in
proportion to his labor. For we are God's co-workers; you are God's field, God's building."

The CC continued, "It was the first time the service team [camp facilitators] encountered such open opposition during a youth camp. Some participants challenged the teachings and sharings, and it distracted the participants so much that no reaction could be garnerd from them. But
YFC is an evangelizing group, and we tend to look with our human eyes and not our spiritual eyes. We look at what's going on and not let the Lord work. The verse came powerfully and told me that we don't matter. ... We are only partners working for God. He is the only thing that matters, not us; not YFC, only God."

And mere servants of the Lord we are. God's ways certainly aren't our ways, and often we fall short of what we're even supposed to see in the first place. Another CC said, "Why do we always look at the wrong things in God's work? God works His own plan -- allows it to happen in His own way. We know God is doing things the way He wants it to happen. He allows things to happen-- God is in control, especially when God's people pray."

An area in the Hoosier State is good work, but Illinois' CCs would like CFC youth to see things more uniquely, deeply, seeing it the way God would see it. Discouragement may be real, but it is harmless until indulged in.

"This bears looking into things deeper-- bad things happen because it's a consequence of our decisions. Sure, we can look at things as they are. But we have to look at things deeper-- why did this thing happen, what caused it? This is a challenge to us-- if we go way from God's word, bad things happen." The CCs also assert that it is a challenge for CFC youth to remember that we base our faith on what is seen, when God's work is unseen.

"There's always something good in God's work, even if we don't see it. God has done so much more than that [the Indiana camp] and we have to focus on His goodness and mercy, mercy, mercy. There is no weakness where God is present. Even if only one heart was truly right with God then that's what matters; if only one heart's desire is to be right with God then consider it a success. That's what God wants and needs. Somehow the seed was planted. You do not harvest it now, but in God's own perfect and beautiful time you will see the fruit. He claimed that camp even before we were there," the CC said.

God's guidance could only be discerned with deep prayer, without which it is hard to discern God's plans that loom right ahead. Prayer not only presents the better choice; it gives courage and assurance that particular requests are meant to be given.

"That's why we have prayer warriors, and prayer times. ...When God's people are on thier knees praying, it will move the hands of God," the CC said.

They also assert how good it is YFC is with the Lord while still very young, and that they wish they could have started earlier and done a better job with thier Christian lives. "I'm just speaking from my heart now, this is who I am. Take your stand; this is how I am. I'm either black or white, and I choose to be white, I choose to be with God, I love God," said the couple coordinator.
