This Webquest should be used by small groups of students in grades 2 and 3. Each group of students should have at least four members, so that each of the 4 different penguin patients can be studied. When groups contain more than 4 students, doctors can share penguin patients.
If students work on the Webquest for approximately 30 minutes per day, it should take them 4 days to finish the Webquest and present their information to the class.
You need to link onto the Hospital Chart Worksheet from the "Procedure" page and print out enough copies for your students to use. Students who are doing this Webquest need to have basic Internet site viewing skills. They need to be able to use the "Back" button to return to the Webquest from the sites, which they are visiting, and they need to be able to scroll down a website page.
You may want to have stuffed penguins, penguin pictures, and fiction and non-fiction penguin books available in the classroom to generate interest in the Webquest. You may also want to have some doctor materials such as stethoscopes and "Red Cross" badges available.
If you need suggestions for using this Webquest with younger children, you can use this link to the Teacher Script page.
