Even if they lose...

For those that don't see the intrinsic beauty in the game of baseball, they need look no further than Brandon Backe's slider tonight. Save for a couple that he left up that resulted in hits, the pitch dove and darted away from White Sox hitters all night. It had eyes; deftly avoiding hitter's bats and leaving them wondering how they missed it.

Even if the Astros lose tonight - and it will certainly not be from a lack of effort this Series - the story of the game will be the pitching performances of Backe and Chicago's Freddy Garcia.

SIDEBAR: It's now the bottom of the ninth, Chicago's up 1-0. I have decided I will stay up, despite working at 5:45 tomorrow morning. I wish I could watch it, but an ESPN GameCast will do until I see highlights tomorrow.

Illegal Activities

My upstairs neighbour has been home all this week (I've seen her twice since I moved in; now that the owner's gone on vacation, she's around).

Yesterday, she was doing laundry (I think it was laundry) from about 8 am to 5 pm. That's a lot of clothes.

Last night there was a guy just standing on her doorstep, talking on a cell phone. It was about 11 at night. There were no cars there except mine, and he doesn't live there. He was just there.

Today, she's moving furniture out of her house.

I kinda hope there isn't police tape around this place when I come back on Monday.

And here's Skip with the weather!

Skip: Hi folks. Well, tonight we'll be having a big helping of I have abso-fucking-lutely no clue.

Apparently Hurricane Wilma was going to be a large tropical storm/small hurricane at the worst. It probably wouldn't even make landfall (well, not American landfall. Beat the bejeezus out of Haiti, but that's okay).

Now, does this look like a small hurricane to you?

So, in a couple of days, it's gone from "This is a small storm" to "We're boned".

Because I...can't...READ!

I have come to the unfortunate realization that I am illiterate. It's hard discovering it at 22, but, I guess that happens.

There is a door on the bottom floor of K building with squiggly things on it - or "words" as I am told they are called. I had thought the words said, "Emergency Exit Only" and, underneath, "Alarm will sound". Apparently, it reads, "NOT an Emergency Exit. Simply an exit onto an empty patch of pavement with no intrinsic value. We ask that you open it once in a while, simply to let some fresh air into the facility, even if it does make a god-awful noise."

Of course, I didn't read this. After all, I'm illiterate and think it's an emergency exit. I deduced that it must be simply a door because it is opened at least twice daily, filling all of K building - one of the few relaxing places in the school - with a siren.

As promised...

First, I have a picture of my frontyard and my backyard. Both filled with nature, one with that nature safely contained on the other side of a road.

Front Yard

Highway 11, backing onto what's probably very nice forests. Gassy forests, but forests nonetheless.

Back Yard

My completely not fenced in, lost the dog in it twice, apparently there's skunks, backyard. Sweet.

Secondly, I decided to spend a night out on my own (wrapping up at the late, late hour of 10:30), and stopped in at the Pub. And not just any pub. A pub I haven't been to in a long, long time.

I was going to take a picture of my Deluxe White Hot Chocolate, but I forgot my camera in the car, and I thought it might look weird to run out, come back in, and take a picture of my drink. Whereas just taking a picture of my drink would look perfectly normal.

Williams Coffee Pub

The last time I was here was about two years ago in Waterloo with Nad. Strangely, "No Such Thing" came on just as I was leaving. At least I thought it was strange.

Like the proverbial phoenix...

...no matter how much money I spend, I still can't create a winning franchise.

Here's hoping that I've got internet at my new place of residence. I have several (read: two) pictures of my place that I want to post, and it's been a while since I've been in a room with:

A) An internet-ready computer
B) My camera
C) The camera's USB cable
D) Not FIFA Street

So, as you can see, the gods are conspiring against my posting of said pictures.

I do have a couple of facts about my new homestead.
  • I live across the street and down a bit from a cemetery. Specifically the Guthrie cemetery. That, and several churches.

  • It takes six minutes to get from the school to home, and 14 minutes to get from home to school.
Yeah, really, that appears to be about it. Literally, a couple of facts.

And, that, friends, is it. Pretty lame-ass update, n'est-ce pas?

Oh! On one final note, I forgot Dead Like Me at home, so if anyone's planning on coming up and visiting me, could you swing by the house and grab that for me? That'd be super.

Wracked with guilt

I could have cheated. I lost The Game while doing an assignment today, but did not announce it. I lost again on the way home from school. I decided that, as long as I'm going to be wracked with guilt, I might as well screw everybody else over. Be warned, don't click on that link if you aren't sure about it. I warned you. Don't come bitching to me.

The Ever-Query

I had a wicked easy macroeconomics test and no 3 pm class. So why, do you ask, am I not at home working on my stupid (even stupider than the last one) Personal Selling assignment? Duh, it's stupid.

I am a new tie vearink

Today, I moved about 93% of the stuff I will be moving into my new room in Barrie. Really, it's a great room. Floor-to-ceiling walls, wall-to-wall floor, a door that functions in both the open and closed positions. Really, it's a great place.

Actually, it is. For $375 a month, it's really all I can ask for - internet, satellite TV, full use of the kitchen - including half the fridge for my four things - bathroom, and it's about 11 minutes from the school. I'd been kind of apprehensive about moving up there, but once I got in and set my stuff down, I got more excited. It'll be a very fun three-month experiment.

Anyway, I have three pictures, which I shot at random on my new digital camera (because I'm absolutely swimming in discretionary income). At the moment, the room sort of looks like a Chechnyan Holiday Inn, but once I get a few posters up, it'll feel like home.
