DVD #3A On
Tony's way out, she sadly asks if he will come back, he coldly leaves without
answering her. Of course she takes this to mean he won't return. Carly pulls
on a slinky outfit and heads out for some fun of her own. Upon bumping into A. J.
in the bar, Carly feels an affinity for the outcast Quartermaine and they
decide to spend the evening celebrating their outsider status. He flirts with
her and she soaks up the attention. They laugh, have some fun, share some
drinks. He tells her about his being on the news. He also senses that she came
in to escape her own troubles and asks her about them. He wants to know why
she is so unhappy. She is surprised he picked up on that. She tells him about
Tony. He thinks Tony is a fool, that she is beautiful, smart and funny and any
many would be lucky to have her. He leans in and kisses her passionately. He
asks her to spend the night with him, that he doesn't want to be alone. They
start making out hot and heavy in the bar, then head up to Jason's empty room.
They start to make love. Carly hesitates. A. J. tells her she has the glow
of an angel and is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. They fall on the
bed, make love.
After having sex with A. J. Carly quickly begins to regret her impulsiveness.
Meanwhile, back at the apartment, Tony waits forlornly for his absent lover
and hopes that he can somehow make up for the terrible things he said. As A. J.
sleeps, Carly gathers her clothes and leaves. When she returns home to find
Tony there, Carly nervously informs Tony that she ran into an old pal from
Florida and lost track of time while reminiscing. Relieved when he asks for
her forgiveness, Carly swears she'll never leave and begs Tony to make love to
her. As Tony declares how terribly lost he would feel if he didn't have her to
love, a guilt-stricken Carly keeps mum about her night with A. J.
Nursing an enormous hangover, A. J. staggers downstairs to the bar and begins
sucking down glasses of vodka. Meanwhile, Carly is unnerved by visions of the
two Quartermaine brothers comparing notes on how good she is between the
sheets. Carly asks A. J. to help her ensure that what transpired between them
on the night before remains a secret. As it becomes evident that A. J. has
absolutely no memory of their roll in the hay, Carly hastily concocts a G-
rated version of their encounter in Jason's room. She protrays him as the
gallant hero who saved her from the embarrassment of getting sick and passing
out in public. Although a bit insulted to think she wasn't memorable in bed,
Carly breathes a sigh of relief about dodging a bullet thanks to A. J.'s
alcoholic blackout.
Arriving for their next scheduled therapy session, Carly is amazed to see that
Katherine has progressed to walking a few steps on her own. Carly
advises Kat to take it easier in her therapy, or she risks injury, but
Katherine is rebellious. Bobbie appears at the door to see Katherine. Carly
tries to put her off, but Kat dismisses Carly who leaves. Carly hesitantly accepts a cash payment from Luke in exchange for the latest
news on Katherine. Carly runs into A. J. at the gym at GH and is relieved to
discover that he still has absolutely no memory of the night they spent
together, though he does recall her perfume.
At Luke's club later, A. J. bumps into Carly as he leave the blues club, A. J.
recognizes the familiar scent of her perfume. When she enters, Jason tells her
that Tony left a message that he isn't going to make it that night as he has
to work late. Carly heads to GH, and enters Tony's office and finds him
holding an upset Bobbie in his arms. Carly is devastated and leaves without
being seen (Bobbie is crying over Stefan but Carly only sees the intimate
embrace). She heads back to Luke's Club and catches the last song of the
"All For One Concert". Jason sees her and says, "You look
like somebody died."
Carly answers "I thought Tony was at the hospital, but he wasn't.
There's nothing wrong between Tony and me. Everything's just fine." Jason
says he doesn't care, he was just trying to act interested. Carly
snarls, "Well, don't. It's not your strong suit."
Carly eyes Justus and Dara talking. She goes over and makes nice to
Keesha, wangling an intro to Justus. She asks him for his card,
explaining "a friend" may need legal advice. As the others
leave, she fingers the card, and we can fairly see the wheels turning in her
brain.
At GH, Carly listens in as Justice and Tony discuss the custody of Lucas. He
tells Justice that the custody issue may be resolved very soon, indicating
some thawing of the freeze between Tony and Bobbie. Tony continues that with
the anniversary of BJ's death approaching that it is a difficult time and he
doesn't want to do anything about suing for custody during that time. Carly
learns that Justice will be out of the office that day and dons a red wig
resembles something like a cross of Josie (of Josie and the Pussycats' fame)
and "I Dream Of Jeannie" and with full southern accent on, is
conning the secretary that she's looking to use Justus' legal services. The
sec informs Carly that he's busy, but she's welcome to wait, and blows out to
lunch. Carly dives for the filing cabinets and steals the Lucas custody file.
On her way out of the office, she runs into A. J. She pretty much begs
him not to mention to Justice that she stopped by with some lame excuse about
deciding not to get involved in a friend's legal situation. A. J. believes
her and promises not to mention anything and then suggests that she lose the
wig. Leaving, she drops an earring.
Carly is on the phone with someone representing the hospital where Virginia is
convalescing, when the doorbell rings. When she opens it the door, A. J. is
standing there with the earring she dropped at ELQ. He tells her he picked up
the earring from Justus's secretary and assures her that he didn't say who it
belonged to and kept her confidence. Just then Tony arrives, and is surprised
that Tony and Carly even knew each other. A. J. said he was in the neighborhood,
looking for an apartment. Tony sends Carly to check his answering service and
takes a minute to gossip with A. J. about his recent misfortunes, then sent the Q
on his way with some apartment leads. He picked up the earring and asked about
it. Carly grabbed it and, saying she hated the pair, threw it out. Tony said
Lucas was relaxing about their affair, and that Bobbie should be credited for
it. He also said how glad he was that he dropped the custody issue. After he
left to go back to the hospital, as Carly's walking out the door, A. J. is back.
This time to share the news that he'll be her new neighbor.
As Tony plays with Lucas at the brownstone, Carly stops by with some food for
the boys to give them more time to bond. She promises she isn't intending on
staying but since Lucas is going up to bed soon, she is invited to come in. As
Tony dims the lights and starts to dance romantically with Carly, abruptly,
the lights go back on, and Bobbie is standing there with Stefan glaring at
them. Bobbie lays into Tony for using things she told him in confidence to use
them against her in a custody case. She can't believe that she received the
custody papers on the anniversary of BJ's death. Tony defends that her
receiving the papers was a mistake, that he never authorized them to be sent,
that he isn't pursuing it. He swears that he only talked to Justice when
Bobbie married Stefan, took him to live on the godforsaken island, and started
talking about taking him to Greece. He didn't know what Bobbie might do next
and wanted to be prepared. He promises that he wasn't going to pursue the
matter. She is very hurt that he would tell Justice about her past and private
matters to be used against her. Carly pipes in defending Tony, but the more
she talks the more disgusted Bobbie becomes realizing that Tony has told Carly
all about Bobbie's past. Stefan puts an end to the drama but declaring that
Tony will be hearing from his attorney just in case Tony decides to
"accidentally" file the papers. Tony is shaken realizing he could
lose Lucas.
Carly stuffs the red wig into a garbage bag and flashesback to wearing it at
Justice's office (just in case a fan missed that episode). She hauls the
trashbag into the hall and runs into A. J., who's carrying three boxes of
extremely breakable items and has opted not to pack them with cushioning
material. He asks her playfully if she knows him well enough to fish his
keys out of his pants. While she plays coy, he drops the boxes,
shattering their contents. Carly apologizes profusely, while A. J. decides
to examine a broken glass and cuts himself. Carly bandages A. J.'s cut
hand. They discuss her brief foray into nursing and her imaginary friend
in Florida. Carly and A. J. discuss his new apartment and she's shocked that he
would want to leave his mansion and family's money behind to live in his new
little bachelor pad. (Personal note, there was some definite chemistry
between Sean Kannan & Sarah Brown and I've wondered how differently the
storyline would have played out had he not been fired for substance abuse
problems, meaning wonder if they would have had more of a real romance?). A. J.
leaves and Tony calls and she asks him if there's any "suspects" in
the "custody paper caper". Tony tells her Luke's theory that
Stefan had them sent and Carly loves with the idea. Tony's not convinced
and wonders how could anyone hate him so much to do this to him? A guilty
Carly feigns a kitchen emergency and breaks off the conversation.
Uncle Luke's arrives at Carly's door. Luke outright accused Carly of
stealing the custody papers from Justice's office and mailed them to Bobbie.
Luke comments that, "Tony is so far up mystery mountain right now that it
is going to take a sherpa to bring him home" (Sarah grits her teeth
holding the moment over one of Tony's famous ad-libs and then he continues),
"and once this story starts to snowball, he is going to need
oxygen!" (he gets her with this one and she lets out a little laugh but
covers nicely as Luke continues to accuse Carly). Carly completely denies it
and points out that Bobbie isn't upset on how the papers were delievered to
her but that they existed in the first place. Luke kept the pressure up,
mentioning the reams of Carly's imaginary friends but tells her that it she
isn't big on long range thinking. When he pointed out that the papers were
served to Bobbie on the anniversary of BJ's death, she folded and gave a full
confession, crying that she didn't know it was BJ's death, that she didn't
plan that. He demands that she spill. She does and compares her desperate
situation to his own actions, and hit his soft spot by putting the blame on
those all-encompassing Spencer genes. Luke agreed she's a Spencer through and
through, but she expressed pity that she has no blood loyalty and because of
that she will be lonely all of her life. He says that none of this is about
Tony, its all about "screw mama". As she rants at him, he muses how
much she reminds him of Bobbie, the same fire. Enter Tony, who must just think
it's great that his ex-brother in law treats his new squeeze like family. He
broke the news about Bobbie's lawsuit; Luke put on his cool shades and split.
Tony commiserated a little more with Carly till she left, then called Justus'
secretary to see what she remembered about the day the papers were delivered.
Luke tells Bobbie he might be able to help if she'd only listen. Carly
overhears this and has a flashback of Luke telling her off and runs off in
fear. A. J. is working out at the hospital gym when Carly comes in all upset.
He comments that, "You look like someone just ran your puppy over."
She's worried, she says, that Katherine will fire her and admits, "I
screwed up." A. J. coaxes a bit of a smile out of her. Bobbie
wants to know if Luke knew about the custody suit. She's even more furious
that he knew about it as this all comes back to his feud with Stefan. Carly
comes back and overhears the end of this conversation. She runs into Bobbie,
who icily ignores her and Carly realizes that Luke didn't spill about Carly's
involvement in the custody papers. As Bobbie walks past her, Carly looks up
and says, "Thank you, God!"
Carly starts the day with a visit from A. J., bearing donuts and a gift of guitar
strings for Tony. Carly invites him to stay and chow down. He asks her if she
was in as much hot water with Tony as she thought, and says he thinks Tony has
it pretty good with her around. While wiping powdered sugar off her mouth, he
has some sort of memory from their night at the bar. He thinks he remembers
dancing with her, but Carly strikes up the avoidance chord and says she'd
rather forget the evening. Not me, say A. J., he wants to remember the night he
made a new friend. Tony arrives home and, not seeing A. J., asks if she's seen
the new neighbor lately?
"What new neighbor?', A. J. asks. They have some neighborly chat, Tony
thanks him for the guitar strings, and as A. J.'s about to leave, Tony starts to
ask him about the day he came into the apartment and interrupted a visit
between Carly and him, the same day the papers were delivered to Bobbie.
A rush of clues, er, flashbacks, runs through Tony's head and he finally starts putting two and two together, Carly's earring, the
earring found at the office and she gave it to A. J., finding A. J. at his apartment
later that day. After A. J. leaves, even more clues enter, and by George, he has
it. Carly looks worried. A sickened Tony accuses Carly of sending the
divorce papers. Carly denies it all. Tony talks about his clues and goes
over them one by one. Finally he says that they go see Justus and his
secretary. Carly tries to defend herself. She can't believe that he would even
think this of her and if demands this she will go but she will never forgive
him for this and it will never be the same. She can't believe he is taking a
stranger's word over hers. She accuses that the secretary sent them and is
using this mysterious stranger bit to cover her own mistake. Tony keeps
watching her. "Fine, we won't go." They will just sit there
and wait for A. J. to get back from his AA meeting, "because they're very
big on honesty in AA. They consider it a big part of the recovery
process. I think he'll be willing to tell me if the woman he knows, the
woman who dropped the earring in Justus' office, is you. A. J.'s our
friend." There's a sound in the hall. "Maybe that's him
right now." Carly panics and demands that Tony leave A. J. out of this.
A shocked Tony realizes, "it's true."
Carly says "I did it for you, I did it for us.
She used your son to try to get you back."
Tony contends "SHE didn't hurt me! YOU
hurt me. She didn't use my son. YOU used my son, you're the reason
I'm going to lose my son."
"NO!" she screams, but too late, he packs
up. Carly yells, trying to hold him back. She tells him
about staying in the apartment alone night after night. "I mailed
jer those papers because I love you. And you love me, Tony."
Tony looks horrified. "Love you?
I don't even know you." He slams out, and leaves her sobbing.
Carly's mooning around listening to sad songs on the radio and thinking of
Tony when she hears a noise in the hall. Has he returned?
She runs to the door and, bummer, it's only hunky old A. J. Quartermaine going
into his apartment. Poor Carly looks as wilted as yesterday's lettuce,
so A. J. takes pity on her and leads her back to her place, offering her a
well-muscled shoulder to cry upon. Without going into pesky detail, Carly
tells him that she was a bad girl and now Dr. Tony's mad at her. A. J. advises her to buck up, come clean with Tony and ask him to forgive her.
"Be glad you're with a nice guy like Tony, who's likely to forgive you.
Not like some members of my family." When he goes on to mention the
hostage crisis, Carly freaks (this was the plotline that kicked off Port
Charles, not really involving GH much). She has to go find him and make
sure he's okay! When we next see her, she is at GH, just after Tony has
gone three rounds with Bobbie. Carly tries to sneak up on him and hug
him from behind, but as soon he feels her embrace, he jerks away. She begs and
promises that she has learned her lesson and will never do anything like that
again. He doesn't believe her as he says she would do it again if she felt
cornered. He wants nothing to do with her, and tells her that she may have
cost him his son and she can never make that up to him.
A. J. knocks on Carly's door. Carly lets him in and, as usual, they talk
about her and Tony's relationship. She tells him that Tony might not
ever see his son again because of him. A. J. says that he caused his brillant
brother to have permanent brain damage. She points out that he was drunk while
she was stone cold sober. Carly realizing he won't judge her, admits that she
stole the custody papers and mailed them to Bobbie. He shares that he has
learned that sneaking around and lying doesn't work, and being honest with
yourself and other people is the only way to go. She admits that she has been
lying to him and says that she lied to him about that day in Justice's office
and this is why she was so anxious for him not to tell Justice. She apologizes
and says that he didn't deserve that from her. They hug and it familar to him
and he flashesback to kissing her that night at Jake's.
He comes back to see her and he is afraid of making an unwelcome pass at her.
She pretends nothing happened but he knows that isn't the whole story as he
remembers holding her. She says they both had too much to drink and he took
her up to Jason's so she can be sick in private. He thinks he came onto her
and knows she would never welcome that as she is so in love with Tony.
She allows him to think he made an advance but it was no big deal. Later, Tony
surprises her with his return. He tells her he is just there to pick up some
things. He says that he was hoping she wouldn't be there as he doesn't want to
hurt her. She cries that she has nowhere else to go.
At GH, Carly comes off the elevator and asks Tony, "do you have a
minute?" Tony is stern, "You shouldn't let your personal life
interfere with the well being of a patient." (She's been missing appointments again.) Carly has brought by the tie
and cufflinks she gave him at Christmas, but turns out he hadn't accidently
left them and he coldly walks away. Later, in the hallway, A. J. spies a
despairing Carly. He wants a drink, as he's very worried about Emily who
OD on heroin. She can tell that something is wrong and for once is there
to be his friend and wants to know what is going on? He tells her he wants a
drink? He tells her that Emily blames herself for everything bad that has
happened to the family even though none of it is her fault. He just needs
something to take the edge off. She gets him to go with her to the gym and
says that perhaps her witty conversation will help take the edge off. He tells
her he wanted to be a "patient" when he grew up. An angry
Justus interrupts. He tells Carly he's thinking of bringing her up on
charges. He tells her that Bobbie has nothing to do with it, he's angry
in his own right. A. J. defends Carly (not her behavior) and tells Justus
not to throw the first stone. Justus gets a faraway look in his eyes, but doesn't have an attack of the flashbacks
(he allowed Laura to be jailed and prosecuted for Damian's murder when Justice
committed the murder, how is it that he wasn't disbarred?). Later, Justus
confronts Carly again about the theft of his files; he says he's not going to
press charges now, but he warns her that he might pursue legal action in the
future. He says that A. J. pleaded her case and that he convinced Justus
to go easy on her. Carly flashes back to how nice A. J. was the last time they
talked.
Carly is in the hallway outside the morgue and notices bloods spots on the
floor. Uh oh. Ms. Bare Midriff steps into the morgue and yodels,
"Hey guys, you left a mess out there." She spots the bad Dr. Deadman on the floor like a flounder.
Jason steps behind her and places a hand over her mouth to stifle her screams.
When she calms, Jason warns her to be careful not to touch anything. He
gets some plastic gloves from a cabinet and searches Dorman's body, finding
the plane tickets. Then he tells Carly to call the cops and leave a good
strong print on the "911" numbers on the phone. Carly tells
her that she will lie for him if he wants. She's prepared to lie through
her teeth for him. "I used to say that Tony was the best thing to
happen to me, well, he doesn't want that title, so it belongs to you, whether
you want it or not." Jason tells her just to say the truth (with a
few minor lapses) that she came in, found Dorman dead, and Jason already
there.
Jason asks Carly to get a message to A. J.. When Taggert and Garcia arrive, they
question Jason, who admits that he wanted to kill Dorman, but somebody beat
him to it. "I came in, he was dead, she [Carly] came in." The
cops arrest Jason and want Carly to come down to the PCPD to give her
statement. A. J. arrives and goes with her to the PCPD. After she signs her
statement, A. J. asks her questions about what happened so he can tell the
family. She doesn't understand, not realizing that Jason is A. J.'s brain damaged
brother. She says that Jason isn't brain damaged. He insists that she has to
tell him what happened. Finally Carly has figured out that Jason and A. J. are
brothers, she can't believe that Jason is a Quartermaine. A. J. says that he is a
different person now, and he really isn't a member of the Quartermaines. Carly
muses that she really freaked out over the site of the body. She doesn't want
to leave but A. J. says that the longer she stays there, the more it will look
like she is covering for him. She offers to take a cab home but he won't hear
of it but she doesn't want him to leave Jason there alone. Sonny and Brenda
come in and talk to A. J. (this is Carly's first scene with Sonny but they don't
exchange any dialogue or any greeting, funny as she later enthuses to Jason
that she "met" Sonny, more like stood in his presence).
Carly and A. J. arrive back at her place. She thanks him for getting Justus
not to press charges. They bond and A. J. leaves to go support Jason.
Tony arrives, he's distant but concerned. Carly throws herself on him
and tells him all about how awful finding a murdered corpse was. He is mildly
sympathetic and is very concerned for Jason. Tony tells Carly that they
are over for good and she should learn to move on. Meanwhile, A. J. has arrived
back at the PCPD and Sonny wants to know if Carly Roberts has incriminated
Jason? A. J. assures him that she didn't, only saying what she saw which was
Jason was in the room with the dead body.
Carly is thrilled to open her door and find Jason standing there. They discuss
his being A. J.'s brother and his being brain-damaged. She says she never noticed
his brain being damaged. He says that he kept waiting for her to figure it
out, that she is the only person that he has ever spent time with that didn't
know about the brain damage. He says Sonny and Robin knew when he didn't
understand something and they would explain it to him. He says he did learn
from her, when she would tell him he was being rude that he would know not to
do that again. He laughs that he learned that even if all you want to do is
have sex with a person that you should at least ask how their day was. She
laughs and agrees that is a good thing for him to know. He says he is glad
that she isn't angry with him. She tells him that he is the only friend that
she has (suddenly forgetting about A. J.?). She tells him she has secrets of her
own. He asks if they would hurt Sonny or Robin? She says no and he agrees not
be angry with her if he learns her secrets. Carly gets nauseous as Jason's
description of Dorman's body, but you can bet its morning sickness despite her
assurances to Jason she just couldn't be pregnant.
Carly buys a home pregnancy test, but before she can use it, she gets a
surprise visit from A. J. who's delivering her Nurses' Ball costume (the biggest
surprise is Billy Warlock is now in the role. As A. J. hugs Carly, Tony returns
"just to get some things." A. J. apologizes, but Tony brushes it off.
A. J. tells them he's looking forward to their performance at the Nurses' Ball.
Carly asks Tony if they're still doing the number? Tony answers yes, they've
made a commitment and everyone is counting on them. The two men leave
for a bit to check out a problem A. J. is having with his plumbing. Carly tears
into the kitchen. She fishes her home pregnancy test out of the garbage
and plants it in the wastebasket in the bedroom next to Tony's desk.
It's not quite obvious enough, so she crumples some more papers and stuffs
them into the trash, making sure the box and test are perched right at the top
so even a blind man would find them.
Tony goes to his desk to retrieve some things he left behind. "What
is this?" he questions when he spots the evidence. "Oh, my
god, Tony. I didn't mean for you to see that."
"Are you pregnant?"
"It's not your problem."
"Just answer me." Carly admits that she is
"with child".
"You don't have to worry about it."
She lets him know how much she wants the baby. Tony is solicitous. He
wants her to see a doctor, take care of herself. He gets emotional that after
BJ died, he just never believed that he would ever have another child.
Then he apologizes for laying all his stuff on her. Carly assures him
that she is happy that she's pregnant, "It feels right." Tony
has to get away as the whole thing is just too emotional for him now.
Carly looks pretty emotional, too, after he leaves.
Tony stops outside Audrey's room and is flipping through a chart when Carly
comes into the hallway. She hesitates when she sees him but Tony, having
heard footsteps behind him, turns around and sees her. They both look
defeated and and exhausted. Tony hangs his head. Tony asks Carly if she's seen
a doctor yet but Carly says that she is not able to make an appointment until
the next week because of the doctor's busy schedule. Tony says for her to take
of herself and they discuss whether or not she's told anyone about the baby
yet. She says no but Tony doesn't believe she could keep htat kind of
secret. Carly doesn't want to saddle Tony with a baby but he believes
that it is his responsibility. Carly says that there is no reason for
her to stay in Port Charles so after she sees the doctor and if everything is
fine, then she will leave. Tony asks Carly why she thinks she has to leave
town. Carly says that everyone in town has judged her and she is not
about to bring a child into that. Tony argues saying she has work and
friends in PC but Carly says she's already managed to screw up everything she's tried to do there.
She knows it's her fault but she's going to be a good mother and will bring up
her child in a place where they might both be loved. Tony asks if she's
trying to keep the child from him but says no and he can have a lot to do with
the child but there's no reason for her to stay if they're not together.
She knows their relationship is over and wants to go someplace to start fresh
and that she plans on leaving as soon as possible. Tony tells her if she
ever needs any help to let him know and she says that he'll be the first one
that she'll call. She walks around the corner and breaks down into
tears.
Carly is waiting for Tony to show up, and calls the hospital and realizes he
left quite awhile ago. She is disappointed that he didn't come to see her. The
doorbell rings, and she bounces to the door praying for it to be Tony, but
it's only A. J.. He has a petition for better recycling centers. He sees
Carly is packing. She tells him, crying, that she told Tony she was leaving.
A. J. consoles her. He tells her to let things lie. A. J. asks what Carly told
Tony? Carly of course lies. A. J. leaves, and Tony comes and tells Carly he
doesn't want her to go. However, he doesn't commit, and she is determined.
She will leave right after the Nurses' Ball. She'll let Tony know when
the baby is born. Tony wants to work it through. "You can't
walk away from my responsibilities."
"I won't be held hostage to them, either."
She needs him to want her for herself not just because she is pregnant.
Carly talks about growing up. Tony's seen changes in her. He leaves and she prays for god's help, hoping that
her bluff will work to bring Tony back to her. A. J. comes back for the petition
and offers to take Carly to the Nurses' Ball.
Carly arrives at the Nurse's Ball and Tony follows her to the door of her
dressing room. They're squabbling about her plans to leave town after the
ball. She says she doesn't want to get back together with him if it's only for
the sake of the baby. Cute montage as the women of Port Charles getting ready,
putting on their makeup and then getting dressed. Then the show starts with
Alan singing and the women doing a fashion show thing behind him. The women
end up on steps behind Alan, forming a rainbow with their dress colors. During a break, Carly asks Jason if he would miss her if she left town and he
agrees that he would, but asks her, "You won't will you?"
Carly and Tony do a country western song and dance number, while Bobbie glares
at them from the audience. Tony comes into the dressing room after their
number and tells her that while he doesn't like to be pressured into making
these kinds of decisions quickly in this case it is easy.
#3B Tony tells her that he wants her to stay. He wants to be part
of the baby's life. "Is that because you can't imagine your life
without me or is it door number 2--for the sake of the baby?" she cries.
Carly tells him that she needs to be needed for herself, and if he can't agree
to that then they will say goodbye tonight. A. J. goes to comfort a lonely
Carly, she's worrying if her ultimatum to Tony will work. A. J. tries to
cheer her up and leads her arm and arm across the room.
Backstage Luke and Amy struggle to get him out of his pants so he can change
into his costume. Pratfalls and clowning galore. Finally, just in time,
Luke gets his fly zipped and bursts onstage to dance the "Last
Dance" with Bobbie. He poses a la Travolta then get into his thang.
Actually, he does a lot more dancing than Bobbie does as she comes on more
toward the end of the number so he can swing her around. Lucy introduces
Kat Bell to say a few words. Kat astounds everyone by walking onto the
stage with the help of a cane. Applause. She tells them that she knows
that this night is not about her but she wanted to share a small miracle
with them tonight so that they can all make a larger miracle happen, like
defeating HIV. She then introduces "our own miracle, Robin
Scorpio." Robin ascends. She talks about the helplessness she felt
when the boy she loved was dying, and then when she herself was diagnosed HIV+
All her dreams for the future died. "Every hope I had for the
future was gone, Robin the wife, Robin the doctor, the mother, the
grandmother, gone." But thanks to those assembled and others, she can
fell hope again, she can see the future. She remembers those who did not
make it, Stone, Jon Hanley and tells everyone they must commit to eradicating this disease.
Ned and Dara sing "You've Got a Friend". Both are in excellent
voice. During the number, the camera pans to squares on the quilt that
are being used as back-drop. We see Mac have a flash back to the time he
presented Stone's square to Robin, wrapping it around her. He's
moist-eyed, too. Jax looks longingly at Brenda during the song. She's
leaning against Sonny. Jax turns back toward the stage, swallowing a lump in his
throat. Everybody at the tables joined in on the last chorus of the song,
"You just call out my name and you know wherever I am, you've got a
friend."
Carly is looking for A. J. (her date) to take her home. Tony is there
instead, he told A. J. he would do it. They leave to go find a private
place to talk. Tony tells Carly that he never believed in them, that they
would last. He always felt that one day she would wake up and decide she
didn't want to be with this old guy. He says that he knew her fears of
abandonment were rising and he did nothing to ease them. She says she felt him
slipping away back to Bobbie and she fought to keep him. He tells her it was
his job to provide her with the emotional security she needed. So he takes
some responsibility for what her insecurities drove her to do. He
promises this time to do better. Carly asks wonderingly, "This
time?" They recommit to each other. She cries with joy as they hug.
She promises to be good this time.
Carly happily informs A. J. that she and Tony have reconciled. Tony pulls
some strings to get Carly an early appointment with her busy gynecologist.
She tells them the baby will probably be due in January. Tony tells Carly he
knows when the baby was conceived (she looks nervous at that announcement). He
says it was the night they had the big fight and made up when she came home
(also the same night she slept with A. J.). He asks if she remembers that night,
she says of course she does and flashes back to having sex with A. J..
Carly has a dream that she is in bed with A. J.. She awakes with a start to find
him at the door. She has to restrain herself from being rude, he is sorry to
wake her but says that Tony invited him for breakfast. Tony comes out and
apologizes for over sleeping. Rattled to see her one night stand breaking
bread with her live-in lover, Carly reminds Tony not to breathe a word to
anyone about their impending blessed event. She overhears A. J. telling Tony that
if he has any further problems staying sober that he would leave town and
check himself into a rehab clinic. A. J. thanks Tony for helping him stay the
course with his sobriety and his determination to turn his life around.
Afterwards, A. J. is startled to stumble upon evidence that Carly may be
pregnant. Carly assures her friend that Tony is thrilled about becoming a
father once more.
Pleased to find that her former beau is holding down a steady job at the
hospital gym, Keesha congratulates A. J. on the way he's begun to turn his life
around. Carly watches and decides that getting them back together will
distract A. J. from remembering what happened between them. Carly hurries to
change the subject when A. J. begins to tell Tony about his flashbacks. Eager
to side track A. J., Carly decides to play matchmaker for her neighbor and his
old flame. After telling a surprised Keesha that A. J. still secretly adores
her, Carly urges the young woman to give him a second chance. After A. J.
expresses surprise at the thought of his ex-girlfriend warming to him again,
Carly suggests that Keesha is still in love with him.
Carly daydreams about happy endings all around for herself and Tony as well as
Keesha and A. J. Finding her arranging the table for dinner guests, Tony gently
scolds Carly for trying to play matchmaker yet again. Keesha and A. J. are both
irked to discover how Carly tricked them into coming to her dinner party.
Apologizing for the "necessary" gamesmanship, Carly cheerfully
suggests to her uneasy guests that they can still enjoy a friendly evening
together even if romance is not in the cards. Tony is beeped and has to break
up the evening early. keesha & A. J. are relieved to have an excuse to leave
as they are both very uncomfortable around each other. After everyone has
gone, Carly flashesback to making love to A. J..
Carly hears about Jason being shot and runs down to the ER. Arriving at the
hospital to check on his brother after hearing a news report, a distraught A. J.
accepts a consoling hug from Carly. Then Carly walks up behind Robin who
is outside of Jason's room keeping watch. Carly tells her that he is her best
friend. Robin agrees that he is a good one to have. Carly later stops by to
visit Jason. She says she had to claw her way into seeing him as they had this
stupid family only rule. She asks if he knows who shot him? She says if she
had a gun she would kill the guy. He retorts if she had a gun there wouldn't
be an empty bed in the hospital.
Carly invites Keesha over for drinks but secretly pours herself a glass of
dark red juice to hide the fact that she isn't imbibing any of the wine.
Though she yearns to share her secret, Carly remembers her promise to Tony and
keeps mum about the baby. (They don't want Bobbie hearing it from someone
else). After Keesha has one drink too many, Carly asks A. J. to drive her
friend home. While A. J. is taking Keesha home, she tells him that Carly told her
that A. J. still loves her. A. J. heads over to Carly's and angrily demands
the truth from Carly. Although she at first tries to deny being manipulative,
Carly finally confesses that she's been playing matchmaker once again. Carly
concocts another lie in an effort to hide from A. J. the truth about their
night together in the room above Jake's. This time she tells him he cried on
her shoulder about how much he loved Keesaha and that getting back with her
would be the only thing that would stop his drinking. He seems puzzled but
buys her explanation that she was just trying to give him what he said he
wanted. Later that night, A. J. is rattled by an erotic dream about Carly.
Tony gets ready to go meet Bobbie to tell her about Carly's pregnancy. Carly
gets ready to go out and join him. He explains to her why her presence is NOT
a good idea under the circumstances. A. J. shows up at the door again still
suspicious over why Carly would tell Keesha something he said when he was
drunk. Carly acts hurt and wounded and tells him again she was just trying to
do something nice for him and fine she won't worry about his life anymore he
can do what he wants. She rushes out telling him to close the door behind him.
After she exits he questions to himself what her hurry is?
Carly goes to the Outback where Tony and Bobbie are meeting. She is feeling
nauseous and goes to the ladies' room. Tony is trying to work up to telling
Bobbie about the pregnancy when some lady comes over and interrupts and asks
Bobbie to go see to the sick woman in the bathroom. When Bobbie asks if
she is allright (not knowing it is Carly), Carly calls out that she is fine
just pregnant (not knowing it is Bobbie who has come to her assistance). Carly
is stunned when she opens the stall door and realizes who she has just blurted
the truth out to. Carly claims that she didn't know that she was there and is
upset to learn that Tony had not yet told Bobbie about their "news."
Carly assures Bobbie that Tony was going to tell her about the pregnancy but
Bobbie accuses her of setting everything up tonight to spoil Tony's plan.
Carly denies it and blasts Bobbie for always thinking the worst of her.
Bobbie has it out with Tony and Carly for their antics but Tony ends up
supporting Carly and accepting her version of what happened earlier in the
bathroom.
Determined to make reparations as part of his 12 step program, A. J. again asks
Carly to describe everything he did during that night at Jake's. Though
relieved when Carly assures him he never attempted to force himself on her, A. J.
tells her he's still going to use his daily AA meeting to try to recall
what went on during the blackout. Terrified that A. J. will remember their roll
in the hay, Carly decides to go to the AA meeting at the Elm Street church to
learn more about alcoholic amnesia. Later, A. J. is startled to bump into
Carly as he arrives for his meeting. Flustered to bump into A. J. at the AA
meeting, Carly claims she just dropped by to brush up on her sobriety now that
she's responsible for the health of an unborn child. Fearing that her next
door neighbor will soon recover his memory of everything which transpired
during his blackout, Carly hatches a new scheme after A. J. admits that if he
slips off the wagon again he would leave Port Charles for good. Tony tells
Carly that Bobbie is off to the Dominican Republic to divorce Stefan. Carly
seems nervous that his ex-wife will soon be free. She tells Tony she is afraid
of how their child will be treated since the town sees her as a tramp, she
reminds him how cruel children can be and she thinks they will hear their
parents talk about her. She suggests they leave town and start over somewhere
else.
A. J. continues to have flashes of the night he spent with Carly, drinking
together, and holding each other. Meanwhile, Carly awakens screaming from
another nightmare about A. J. ruining her domestic bliss by revealing himself
as the father of her child. Tony presents Carly with breakfast in bed, then
expresses concern that her bad dreams about being abandoned might have been
triggered by some signal he's inadvertently sending. Reassuring his lover that
nothing can chase him from her side, Tony promises Carly he's one hundred
percent committed to her and their child. Carly is tortured over her plans for
A. J. as she acknowledges to herself that he is her only friend (what happened to
Jason?).
Rifling through Tony's medical bag, Carly swipes a vial of pills as she works
up a plan to remove any doubt about her unborn child's paternity. Carly feels
doubly rotten about scheming against A. J. after her unwitting friend brings
her a gift for the baby. Carly places her regular call to her mother but
continues to make excuses to avoid giving out her own phone number. Bobbie
overhears Carly answer to Mrs. Jones and blasts away. Bobbie says Carly she is
just using A. J. that she doesn't know how to be a friend as she doesn't know how
to love. Bobbie vindictively tells her that she feels sorry for Carly's baby
to have her for a mother. This pushes all of Carly's buttons and she loses it
and is about to scream all in Bobbie's face. She starts yelling that Bobbie
isn't a great mother. She is just about to blurt out the truth when Tony shows
up. Later, Tony suggests to Carly that they think about getting married before
their child is born. Then he finds Carly pawing through his medical bag.
Flustered at being caught, Carly claims she was simply looking for an antacid
tablet to settle her stomach. Carly puts her plan in motion by secretly
drugging A. J.'s glass of juice when his back is turned.
Listening to A. J. describe how high his self- esteem has risen since he
stopped drinking, a guilt-stricken Carly begins to have second thoughts about
her secret plan to use her friend's weakness to her own advantage. After
A. J. succumbs to the knock out drops she slipped into his juice, Carly loads
her sleeping friend into a laundry cart and begins wheeling him away but stops
short as Jason comes to the door. After waiting quietly for Jason to depart,
Carly wheels the laundry cart and its cargo out of A. J.'s apartment. Dumping
her unconscious neighbor into the alley, Carly pours liquor over A. J. and
leaves the bottle in his hand. Using a phony accent, Carly phones the
Quartermaine mansion and informs a disheartened Alan that his son is lying
drunk in the alley behind his building. Carly calls and reminds Mick the
bartender that she paid him good money to tell the world a certain story about
A. J. Then Carly explains to Tony how worried she is about their missing
next door neighbor. Certain Carly can convince his disapproving family that he
didn't fall off the wagon, A. J. phones the apartment and asks both of his
neighbors to come to the mansion. After Carly tells the Quartermaines about
Neptune's Net, Mick is summoned to the mansion and confirms her tale. She has
said that she showed up for their dinner plans and he never showed. Mick shows
up and says A. J. showed up first, was drinking, then left before Carly came in.
Next day, Carly decides to check up on her unhappy neighbor and finds A. J. berating himself for falling off the wagon. Reminding him how he always
pledged to go into rehab in another town, Carly offers to help A. J. find a
place far away from Port Charles. Later, Carly faces a pint-sized blackmailer
(her neighbor's son) who threatens to tell about her excursion with the
laundry cart unless she pays him off. She gives him $5.00 for the gum he was
demanding her to buy. A. J. tells Keesha about falling off the wagon but
something doesn't sit right with her. He goes over it all with her, how he was
supposed to meet Carly but he never saw her. Keesha asks what lead up to it?
He says that he was fine, there was nothing leading up to it, no crisis.
Keesha seems suspicious as A. J. describes his blackout. Jason walks by and
Keesha leaves them alone to talk. He tells Jason about getting drunk and how
he doesn't even remember taking his first drink. He woke up at the
Quartermaine's to see their looks of dissapointment. Jason offers that if he
needs anything to call him. Meanwhile, Carly is telling Keesha that she feels
responsible for leaving A. J. at the restaurant alone. She had warned him about
the bar there but he felt he could handle it, so now Carly feels responsible.
Keesha assures her that it wasn't her fault (little does she know!). Bobbie
overhears Carly telling Keesha that this was supposed to be a celebration
dinner as she is going to marry Tony. After Keesha walks away, Bobbie scoffs
and asks Carly how she can keep track of all of her lies?
