The Early Carly edits contain all of Carly's scenes and these are edited to Carly's storyline. They only include Jason's scenes when Jason is with Carly but do not include Jason's separate storyline. For Jason's storyline, please refer to the Just amp; Jason edits. I recommend this edit for anyone who is primarily interested in Carly's storyline as the Early Carly #1 and #2 covers the first year of Carly's scenes as played by Sarah Brown.

DVD #2A Bobbie points out to Audrey an apparent discrepancy between Carly's class work and entrance exam results (which were obtained by cheating). When comments on Bobbie's concern over Carly's poor work in front of Tony, he jumps to Carly's defense. Carly is arguing with PI Pizer over money. He is the private eye that Bobbie hired to find her daughter and he is blackmailing Carly to keep quiet about her real identity. He says due to Luke and Sonny his business is gone, and he wants her to give him money to leave. She says she has no money, but he says he knows she has tuition money and he wants it. She tells him no way in explicit terms. When he threatens to expose her, she says she's so sick of him and the lies she'll tell Tony herself. Carly, tries to write a note of truth, but Tony surprises her at the door. She stammers trying to tell him her story, but he misunderstands and thinks it's about the kiss they shared. Carly and Tony are kissing one another. Carly says they shouldn't be doing this and says she is sorry she's messing up Tony and Bobbie's marriage. Tony says they had problems before Carly came along. Tony has to leave to take care of Nicholas.

Jason goes to see Carly and tells her if she's planning to write Robin a letter about them, she needn't bother because he already told Robin about them. Carly is upset as she asks Jason if he ever loved or even liked her and he says maybe when they first knew each other. Carly is left alone, thinking about kissing Tony. Peyser and Carly meet in a stairwell at GH. She gives him an envelope of money, "everything I have", and he threatens to come back for more. Carly then goes back to work and Bobbie spots her. Bobbie comes over and asks where Carly has been. She says "if you don't improve your attitude, you could find yourself out of the program." Tony comes up and says "Excuse me? What's going on here?" He tells Bobbie (in front of Carly) "You sounded very punishing just then." They start bickering. Carly excuses herself, and they continue to fight. Bobbie complains about the tuition again, once more conveniently forgetting that she tried to get the money herself for her own thing. "But it's not really about Carly," Bobbie says. She asks, "Where's all this anger coming from?"

Carly gets into eavesdropping position, she overhears Tony ask Bobbie "You want me to have an affair? That really solved everything!" Bobbie asserts "I suffered for that!" "Not that much," Tony replies, "You just tried to have an affair with Alan Quartermaine. What was the excuse for that?" "I don't want to fight with you, and you lay off Carly." Tony finds out Carly has gone home, and he follows. He tells Carly that the fight was not her fault. She plans to leave the nursing program. She tells him about giving the money away, but she can't tell him why. She starts to cry and he holds her, and, well, things start to develop.

Carly and Tony are snuggling and kissing in bed after having obviously made love. Carly has "Puff, the Magic Dragon" going through her head, which reminds Tony of Lucas and his family. Tony gets dressed. Carly says she would never tell Bobbie what happened, but not because she's ashamed or sorry about what happened. Tony says he's not going to say he's sorry either. Carly tries to tell Tony it's okay for him to leave, and Tony says "who made you think that after a man has sex, all he wants to do is leave, cause he didn't deserve you Carly." They kiss again. Carly seems so sad and desperate. Tony said he wanted to stay with Carly but he didn't want to hurt Lucas and Bobbie. Carly said she didn't want that either. She asked if he would walk by the lake with her so she would have something to remember him by. Tony and Carly go out to walk by the lake.

Bobbie visits the home of Carly's adoptive mom, Virginia Benson. Bobbie and Virginia talk awkwardly about her search for her daughter. Bobbie thanks her for how she cared for Caroline. Virginia asks who else is going to show up at the doorstep looking for her, her father next? Bobbie tearfully says that she got pregnant when she was 16 and working as a prostitute and doesn't know who her father is, so that won't happen. Bobbie talks with Virginia about when she had Caroline and gave her up for adoption. Virginia said she lost a baby when she first got married and wasn't able to have any more children. Her husband left her three weeks after they adopted Caroline. She said that she felt like often she was cold to her and Bobbie said she probably did the best she could. On the way back from Florida, Bobbie thinks about her conversation with Virginia. She showed her pictures of her family. She told Virginia about how Tony doesn't know about Caroline. Bobbie says she hopes someday she'll meet Caroline face to face and Virginia says that if she hears from her she will call her.

Back at Kelly's, Tony and Carly say a bittersweet farewell. Carly feels that they will need to be more distant with each other at the hospital from now on. Tony says that will be hard to do. Carly agrees - she doesn't know how she will look at him without thinking about their time together, and how special he made her feel. He tells her she is special. He starts to leave, but turns back, saying he can't do it. He grabs Carly, and they embrace passionately. We see them later in bed. Carly tells Tony he has to go home and be with his family, but she thanks him again for a beautiful day. Carly, alone in her room, holds a bunch of flowers she and Tony picked on their walk. Carly is looking at the flowers and remembering the previous night. Audrey comes up and tells Bobbie that Carly has resigned. Back at Kelley's, Carly is packing to leave town. Jason comes by with her watch and suggests she not listen to what anyone else tells her. They part friends. Tony comes to Carly. He is frightened when he sees that she has been packing. She cries and says she can't leave him, he is very relieved. He just lights up and hugs her hard.

Carly lurks in a hallway at GH and gazes at the cheap keychain Tony gave her. He sneaks up and tells her they're heading to the Jones family cabin for an overnighter. Carly is ecstatic but before she can escape, Bobbie waylays her and tells her she's got to stay and make up a class she missed. Shortly thereafter, Bobbie tells Tony that she's cancelled her evening nurse's class (so Carly is off the hook) and why don't they spend a cozy evening together, just like in the old days. Tony abruptly refuses, saying he's got a meeting and sprints for the elevator. Stefan observes the exchange and speaks quietly into his Dick Tracy-style wrist radio "he's just leaving...follow them!" Tony and Carly arrive at the cabin. He goes out to get firewood and she places a quickie collect phone call to Virginia in Florida. She tells Mom that she's fine, sorry she hasn't called before, she's met a great guy. Virginia is happy that Caroline is happy and later on, she calls Bobbie and tells her she's heard from "their daughter" and relays the news.

Later on, Tony and Carly dance quietly to Eric Clapton's "Change the World", a nice, quiet, romantic scene. Tony's leaving the cabin, and she's concerned. She thinks that he's really leaving, and he says, "Carly, I'm going to be gone one hour, and I'm going to be back for the rest of the day." She's insecure, and he says he's not that easy to get rid of. Tony goes to the cemetary. "Well, hi, BJ. Looks like your two moms beat me here today. Happy Birthday. BJ, you would have been 10 years old today." Tony is sobbing, saying that he doesn't feel anything any more. He tries to explain that it's not Bobbie's fault that she can't reach him. He can't help her, he can't help himself. "You took away the light, and it's been so cold and dark. I miss you. I miss you so much." He's broken and crying, very sad. He lays down on her grave as if to be closer. Tony arrives back at the cabin. He tells Carly about BJ, and Carly is sympathetic. She wants to help. He asks, hold me, and she does.

Carly loves it at the cabin- so far from the real world. Tony insists it is the real world. Carly thinks the real world is the hospital. Tony, "What hospital?" Later, Tony calls Betty, the ever-available babysitter. Carly remarks that Tony needs to go home, and he tells her that he is home. Carly has some anxieties and doubts, but Tony assures her their relationship is real. He asks, if he could give her one thing, what would it be? To fall asleep in his arms and wake up there tomorrow, she replies, though she knows it is impossible. Tony calls home and leaves a message for Bobbie, he claims to have an emergency at the hospital, and he'll spend the night there (oops, the hospital has just been closed).

Carly wakes up and Tony's gone and she panics, again. He's found a box of sporting goods and yearbooks and they look at them. If he didn't have to, he'd never leave at all. Carly is surprised by the all-boys' school. He says, taking her words, that he's "a kindly interesting wise old guy." He wants to see her high school mementos. She keeps thinking she can tell him everything and he'll still like her, but as she's about to fess up he says he has to get back. Tony goes into the Brownstone, and Bobbie tells him GH has closed. She is "understanding", she thinks he needed to get away by himself because of BJ's birthday so she isn't at all suspicious about his lie that he was at the hospital all night!

Tony and Carly prepare to spend another day of afternoon delights. Tony and Carly toast marshmallows. Tony tells her he needs a change and he feels something wonderful is coming. While Tony and Carly chat, she says she saw a man lurking outside. Virgina tells Luke Carly asked her to gather up some old things, and she might come for them. She mentions that Carly called collect so they will find out where she is when the bill comes. Afterwards, Luke fakes a call from Mac to the phone company to get the number traced. He is shocked to discover that the call originated from the Outback! Bobbie's daughter is in PC! He immediately calls Laura and leaves a message saying he's going to Florida to follow up a lead on Bobbie's daughter.

At the cabin, Tony investigates outside but doesn't find anyone. Carly suggests they stop talking about the future. He tells her no matter what happens he will try to never hurt her. Tony and Carly make out while a black gloved figure fingers an icepick outside. Carly snuggles with Tony until he decides it's time to go home. She asks to drive. At the cabin, Carly and Tony talk about their relationship and how they want to be with each other all the time. Tony and Carly get ready to leave. Carly wants to leave something of her's behind to make her time there seem more real. He says she can as Bobbie never comes up there. Carly takes one of her sweaters out to leave at the cabin. Tony comes back in because their tire is flat (Stephan's man has puntured the tires stranding them at the cabin).

Luke arrives in Florida and tells Virginia that Carly called from PC. Ms. Benson shows Luke pictures of Caroline, which are from when she was younger. She says Caroline didn't like taking pictures. She is excited about how happy Caroline sounded when she called and says maybe things are looking up for her. Luke looks at the pictures of Caroline riding horses, which Mrs. Benson says she loved. She said she won many ribbons for riding her best friend's horse. Luke wants to see a more recent picture. He's excited when he finds a picture of a girl who is in a lot of the same pictures. Ms. Benson says Caroline was best friends with her. Her friend's name? Carly Roberts. Luke perks up. Luke asks if Virginia knows where Carly is. Virginia says she died in a drunk driving accident when she was 16 and that Caroline had nightmares about it for months. She says she refused to learn how to drive and started having a lot of problems in school and at home. Luke asks if there are any pictures of Caroline in high school and they look at her yearbook. Ms. Benson finds a picture of Caroline in the yearbook, which she shows Luke. Surprise, surprise, it's Carly!

Bobbie arrives at the cabin and opens the door to find Carly and Tony in bed together. Great sequence of scenes follow as Bobbie confronts them both, lots of shouting, recriminations! Tony tries to stop Bobbie from leaving, she is so indignant that he could have an affair and do so on their anniversary and in their cabin! Tony gets new tires for the car and tells Carly that he has to go back to see Bobbie. Carly begs him not to go, but Tony tells her he has to. He has commitments, and he can't just pick up and change he life like she did. She tells him she'll do whatever it takes to not lose him. He replies that she should let him to what he need to do. She tells him she can't go back to her room at Kelly's and asks to stay at the cabin. Tony says he'll be back in the morning to pick her up.

Luke comes to the Brownstone with news about Carly being Bobbie's daughter. Before he can say anything, Bobbie tells him about her finding Tony and Carly together at the cabin. Bobbie tells Luke about the things Carly said to her, about her affairs and how Tony was happy in bed with her. Bobbie wonders if Carly might have been the one who called her about the lights in the cabin so that she would come up and find the two of them there. Bobbie cries on Luke's shoulder. She thought that Tony wanted to make their marriage work and that he still loved her. Bobbie replays how Carly made her way into their lives. She related the birthday fiasco again and when she found Tony and Carly together when she came home a day early from the Spa. Bobbie believes the reason she let Carly get to her is because she reminded her of the daughter she gave up. Suddenly Bobbie asks Luke if he has any news on Caroline. Because of what has happened, Luke tells Bobbie that he's very sorry, but Caroline is dead. Using the story of the real Carly Roberts, Luke explains that Caroling was killed in a car accident in high school. However, Bobbie refused to believe Luke saying that Virginia Benson told her she got a phone call from Caroline so she couldn't be dead. Luke says that Virginia is not living in reality. He makes up a story about talking to the neighbors and school officials. Luke continues that after Caroline's death, Virginia went crazy. Luke again says he's sorry, but it's better this way. Bobbie feels that now she's lost everything, but Luke disagrees. He says she's lost a lot, but not everything. He continues that she's the strongest woman he knows. She tells him first she lost BJ, and now her other daughter too. As she says this, Tony walks in and asks "What other daughter, Bobbie?" Bobbie explains to him that she had a child when she was 16 that she gave up for adoption. Luke advises Tony not to pursue this subject. Tony suggest that Luke leave, but he will only if Bobbie says it's okay. She assures him that she's okay, and he says he'll be back in the morning. Tony realizes that Bobbie's big secret was this daughter. Bobbie tells Tony not to use this as an excuse for what he did, and he assures her he's not. Tony asks how the subject of her daughter came up and Bobbie answers that Luke found out today that she's dead.

Back at the cabin, there's a knock at the door. Carly rushes to open it thinking it's Tony, but she opens the door to find Luke. "I suppose Bobbie sent you." She tries to shut the door, and he busts in, "Hold it, little girl! Up against the wall, this is a bust! You've been a bad girl, playing with things that don't belong to you." "Listen, baby," purrs Luke, "I want you to get what you deserve, believe me, as long as it doesn't involve your stepdaddy." Carly feigns ignorance. "Tony and I are in love, okay?, and that's something wonderful, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let you make that ugly." Luke smirks, "I don't have to, baby, I think you already did that, didn't ya? Tell me, did sleeping with my sister's husband make you hate her any less?" Carly denies that she hates Bobbie. Luke responds, "You're sleeping with her old man, baby, you call that friendship?"

"It's not like that!" We didn't ask for this to happen! We tried not to!"

"Oh, sweet Caroline, don't sing me that tune! It is so old and tired, and so am I. How was the revenge, babe? Was it as good as you hoped?"

"I don't know what you're talking about, okay? My name is Carly. Carly Roberts."

"Carly Roberts is dead. She's been dead for nearly 6 years. It was real neighborly of her to leave that name laying around for you, what does a corpse need a name for anyway, right? And you needed an identity. So you could track down your birth mother and what, what? Torture her?"

Carly, cornered, "You are crazy. No, I came here to study nursing."

Luke, "You came here to Port Charles to study Nurse Jones. How was the course, was it fun? Was it fun replacing her in that song & dance and in her kitchen, in her bed?"

"No! Look, you stop that! You hate me and you always have and you'd just say anything!"

Luke grabs her wrist, "I don't hate you, baby. I don't. This is blood talking to blood. I know you too well to hate you. You know, I went to Florida a couple of times recently and I visited this real sad lonely woman named Virginia Benson. Oh, she is miserable because the daughter she raised and loved disappeared and doesn't want to have anything to do with her."

Carly gives up, "That's not true, I called."

Luke continues, "You knew you were Bobbie's daughter before you ever walked into General Hospital. You knew it before you seduced Tony"

"No!" Carly tries to argue.

Luke goes on, "You knew it tonight when you laid in that bed and looked in her face. You knew Bobbie was your mother. Now what sweetheart, did you hope to gain? You want to make her hurt? You want to make her pay?"

"Yes!", she cries.

Luke acccuses, "Make her hurt like you hurt? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But whatever it is, whatever it is, it dudn't matter. Caroline, it's over. Because you just died."

Carly looks at him a little afraid, "What do you mean?" He reports, "I mean that my sister will never know that the woman wrapped around her husband tonight was her daughter. I didn't tell her, and neither will you!"

Carly demands, "What did you tell her, Luke?"

He informs her, "That her little girl is dead. And believe me, I would make that true, if you didn't have your mother's eyes."

They discuss Carly's "pathetic" life. She refers to "Bobbie's M.O..... if you can't use it, throw it out, the same way she threw me out." He denies this, and tells about their early life on the street. Carly is heavily into self-pity. He points out, "Hell, kid, you had your own room, and a back yard, and a yearbook!" Carly defends her grand passion with Tony. She really knows Tony and she has brought him happiness. Luke laughs,"Oh, baby, it's a long way to shore from here. My arms are getting tired for you." He tells her it's just sex. She picks up a vase, "You and that stupid macho Lord of the Family crap. Your type of love is pushing your weight around. That is it. You don't know nothing about me." He tells her he does know she's leaving town. She protests, "Luke, that marriage would be a joke if it weren't so sad." Luke tells her she is never to tell Bobbie or he'll track her down. He gives her money. She throws it at him. They glare at each other. Tony arrives at the cabin. No Carly.

Carly has split from the cabin and runs to Jason's apartment. After she turns on the tears he grudgingly lets her stay and says he'll bunk with Sonny. Carly gets Jason to go over to Kelly's and retrieve her stuff. He's just leaving with her suitcases when Tony bursts in looking for La Trampa. Carly smiles triumphantly when she hears that Tony was looking for her. Carly tells Jason that now she understands why he wanted to protect what he had with Robin. She seems sorry for making fun of his relationship with Robin. She tells Jason that she has fallen in love. She now has someone who looks at her the way he looks at Robin.

Carly is writing a note when Jason arrives, bearing a muffin from Kelly's and coffee from Jake. Carly is concerned that Jake knows she is there, but Jason assures her Jake won't say anything. Carly thanks Jason for bringing the food; he asks why she is so nervous. Is someone else looking for her besides Dr. Jones? Carly asks what Tony said when he asked about her. She tells Jason that Tony is the one she's in love with. She tells him that Tony was lonely, that Bobbie slept around, and that Bobbie lied to Tony about important stuff. Jason gets in a good line, "Oh, and that's a problem for you?", but he smiles when he says it. Carly says she wouldn't lie to Tony if she didn't have to. She tells Jason about Luke's threats, she figures he might even ask Sonny to take care of her. Jason doubts it would come to that but, when she questions him, he admits that if Sonny told him to find Carly, he'd do it. Carly asks Jason if he thinks she is wrong to want to be with Tony. She thinks she and Tony and Lucas could be happy together. She didn't even like Tony at first, but whenever she needed anything, he was there. She can't imagine her life without him now. Jason understands - even when the loved one isn't around, they are the reason you get up in the morning. Carly thinks Jason is lucky, nobody thinks he is wrong to love Robin. So what, says Jason, what is in his heart for Robin has nothing to do with what other people think. Carly agrees, no matter what Bobbie or Luke say, she loves Tony and she's not going to give him up.

Carly retreats in the elevator, and Bobbie rushes in and locks them in. Carly says "This isn't your shift!" and Bobbie explodes. "It's my hospital and you have a hell of a nerve showing your face here! You backstabbing little tramp! Why did you pick Tony? Was it because you hate me, or was that just a dividend? Was he especially gullible?" She raves about Lucas. "Tony was blinded by his own midlife crisis, his own loss." She calls Carly a wretched little homewrecker. Carly says she doesn't understand. Bobbie goes on, "Everyone will take profound joy in seeing you fall on your face." Then, opening the door at last: "Out on 2 for lying, thieving, and adultery." There is Tony, as the door opens. Bobbie, suddenly thinking she's British, says "Look who I ran into on the lift. The Queen of Tarts." Tony wants to know what happened, but Audrey burbles up delighted to see Carly. She wants Tony and Bobbie to give Carly a pep talk. She also tells them about the medical library. Bobbie leaves, and Carly can't handle any more and goes to the elevator. Tony follows long enough for her to tell him she's at Jake's. He leaves the hospital and goes to Jake's.

Carly tells Tony she was going to leave town but just couldn't. She says she might be selfish wanting him but didn't go after him on purpose. He maintains that he believes her, and she's not the reason his marriage was in trouble. Tony tries to explain how much she means to him. She is pessimistic about their chances of being together but suggests they might keep their love under wraps, so to speak. Carly offers to stay in her current dive and get a job, but Tony interrupts and says she should stay at their love nest cabin. Of course, she eagerly accepts. As Carly packs to head for the cabin, Tony suggests that she try to enroll in Mercy Hospital's nursing program, but she tells him she doesn't want to jump into anything yet. She tells him she never felt like she belonged anywhere before, but now she knows she belongs with him. Of course, he eats this up.

At the cabin, Tony plays the guitar and makes up a song about Carly. She loves it and wants him to record it for her. While Carly sleeps, Tony records the song for her and leaves it. Bobbie has flown to the Dominican Republic to obtain a quickie divorce. She's on the phone with Tony and informs him of her intended actions. He is stunned that she would act so precipitously but she is fueled with anger. Carly is pacing at the cabin, waiting for Tony. Tony walks in. Tony is fidgeting on the couch. Carly says things have turned out for the best. Tony still has Lucas, so they (Tony and Carly) can get married, and Lucas will have a new family. Tony says families are not interchangeable. Carly grants that Tony may still have feelings for Bobbie, but goes on about how special Tony and Carly are together. Tony can't deal with this now, either. He embraces her, says he'll be back, and goes to GH. Carly listens to the "Carly" song on tape again.

At the cabin, Jason brings Carly groceries. Tony walks in to find Jason there and wants to know what Jason is to Carly. Jason leaves this scene of weirdness and Tony says there'll be no more sneaking around. He moved out of the Brownstone and trusts Carly completely. Bobbie tells Luke Carly is still in town *and* Tony moved in with her. The news visibly hits Luke between the eyes. Tony and Carly talk about stupid things they'll do now that their great love is no longer a secret. Carly feels guilty about Lucas. Tony says there'll always be room for Lucas in his life Tony says he feels alive again for the first time since BJ and that he's *never* experienced some of these feelings before. Carly is having a dream. Luke bursts in, yelling the truth about her being Caroline. Then Tony & Bobbie enter accusing her. Tony waltzes out arm in ard with Bobbie. Luke reaches for Carly's throat and begins to strangle her. She wakes up, visibly upset.

In the aftermath of her nightmare, Carly sits by the fire at the cabin, looking shaken. Tony brings her hot chocolate. She tells him she dreamed that she lost him forever; he promises he isn't going anywhere. She tells him she has to go into town to do something after that, she will be able to believe their relationship is real. Meanwhile, at the Outback, Tom and Luke had just finished their conversation. Luke poured himself a shot and drank it. He turned back to find Carly sitting on a barstool. Her greeting, "Hello again." Luke pours Carly a shot, and she and Luke both drain their shot glasses. Carly asks Luke if he's going to kill her; he implied it before. "I was nasty, wasn't I?", Luke remarks, smirking. Carly calls him a jerk and tells him he's playing games with her life. She passionately defends her right to stay with Tony, and tells Luke he can kill her if he doesn't like it. He tells her to "save your Romeo and Juliet for your sugar daddy, baby." He follows by asking, "How much do you think Tony is going to love you when he finds out he is boinking his step-daughter?" Carly sidesteps the issue by pointing out that Tony and Bobbie are divorced. Luke points out that she's still got a problem in this area. Carly pointed out that Luke had a problem of his own, how was Bobbie going to feel when she found out Luke lied to her when he told her Caroline was dead? "The truth is, Uncle Luke, if you wreck my life, you wreck hers too."

Luke's expression suggests he is mildly impressed by this show of Spencer blood on Carly's part. He tells her she needs to keep her mouth shut about her relatives; in that case, "Uncle Luke's gonna let you be." Luke suggests that Carly is going to need a lot of help, Bobbie still loves Tony, and Tony seemed awfully upset by the divorce. Carly says Tony was just surprised; Luke says, "You play patty-cake while you can, Caroline, because you don't have enough Spencer blood pumping through your veins to be a match for Barbara Jean. You're just a cast-off photocopy, remember?" If Bobbie wants Tony back, she'll get him.

Carly comes into Kelly's to get the rest of her belongings, and Ruby tells her she is not welcome. Tony and Lucas come in, and Lucas runs and hugs Carly. Lucas sees the suitcase and asks Carly why she is leaving. She tells him she's not leaving, just moving. Ruby comments that she could no longer afford the room, but Carly says she just needed a bigger place. Tony tells Ruby that Lucas wanted to come there for their pre-Thanksgiving dinner instead of eating at the Port Charles hotel and asks if that is okay. Ruby says Lucas can have anything he wants. They order, and Lucas wants Carly to join them. Carly tries to say no, but Tony also insists despite Ruby's objection. Carly agrees to stay. Lucas wants Tony to go rollerblading with him, but Tony declines and suggest that Carly go. Lucas tells Carly that his dad is no longer living at home. Carly tells Lucas that her father didn't live with her either, but that meant she had her mom all to herself. Lucas asks Ruby for some pie and he goes back into the kitchen leaving Tony and Carly alone. Carly apologizes for being at Kelly's and running into them. She's upset because Lucas will have the same kind of life she did, without a father. Tony tries to tell her that he'll always be there for Lucas, but Carly tell him to face the reality of the situation. She tells him what it will be like for Lucas, based on her own experiences. Tony again tries to assure her that he will not be with Lucas like her father was with her. Lucas comes back with his pie and Carly gets up to leave. She tells Tony that she'll get a room at Jake's, but he gives her his credit card and insists she go to a hotel. She eventually agrees and leaves.

Carly bounces into a bare apartment, eyes shining. She says to Tony, "You hate it, don't you?" It's not as close to the hospital as he was hoping, but he loves it. He thinks it's time Carly went back to General Hospital, "Bobbie's a professional. She can separate her personal and professional life."

Carly says, "She caught us in bed together, no one is that professional!"

Tony says, "Bobbie's the one who got a divorce, why do we have to skulk around in the shadows?"

"Because it's safer."

"I've spent my whole life being safe, I want a change! Are you with me?"

At the hospital, Carly gets cold feet, but Tony plows on, he says something to a busy Amy who answers him, then turns around and spies Carly. "You! I thought you'd left town a long time ago." Tony asks for change-of-address forms, they are living together. Amy asks Carly, "What took you so long?" Tony starts to talk to Amy, but Audrey comes up and Amy tells her the news. Audrey, always a lady, is taken aback, but makes no comment. Later, Carly overhears Amy in full cat rant and Audrey mildly wishing Bobbie and Tony would get back together. Tony comes up looking for Carly, says a few choice words to Amy, and goes home. Carly 's made a candlelight meal on a packing box, romantic, just starting out. He wants to know why she left the hospital, and she lies. She tells him nothing happened at the hospital, but you know what, she doesn't really want to be a nurse after all. It's a calling. She wants to make Tony happy.

Carly buzzes around the new apartment, They discuss GH a bit, and Carly is adamant about not going back there. Tony finally gets Carly to admit that she overheard Amy and Audrey gossiping about her saying she just wanted to hook a doctor. Tony tells her not to worry about what those harpies say. After all, she and he are just the GH gossip flavor of the week. He also asks her why she thinks she'll be the one left behind; doesn't she think he's insecure too. She agrees that they can make it work despite what people say, and they play rug wrestle. As Carly phones about her new furniture delivery, she gets an unexpected visitor, Bobbie. Carly tells Bobbie that Tony is out, but Bobbie says she'd like to wait. When Carly says, "You must hate me." Bobbie replies flatly, "I hardly think about you. It's not my business."

In a moment of perfect timing, Tony arrives lugging a new mattress. When Bobbie sees him with the mattress on his back she comments, "Hey, that reminds me of my first job." Tony arrives at his new apartment, new bed in hand, to find Bobbie there. She tells him she has come to let him know that she and Lucas have moved out of the Brownstone and to give him their new address. She lowers the boom and announces to Tony that she has gotten married. He is shocked. She asks if he expected her to simply stop living after their divorce. He tells her he is just curious as to why it happened so quickly and asks to whom she is married. She tells him Stefan Cassadine and Carly accuses her of making it all up. She is quieted when Bobbie flashes her the ring. Tony begs her to tell him it isn't true and that she hasn't moved their son in with that "weirdo". He accuses her of doing it simply out of spite. Bobbie points out that he simply fell in love with Carly and she with Stefan and that the only difference is, she's not ashamed of who she's with. Tony tells her that he is happy with Carly and whoever doesn't like it can go to hell. The insults fly from there and Bobbie storms out telling Tony that he should pay a visit to his son before he makes any further judgements on Stefan or her marriage.

Tony answers the door at the apartment, it's Carly, her arms full of shopping bags. She goes back out and, glowing with happiness, brings in a Christmas tree. They begin to decorate the tree, they're just working on putting the star on it when Bobbie calls Tony. She needs his help with Lucas. Tony has to leave, and Carly does her best to be understanding. They kiss, and then he leaves. Carly turns on the Christmas music and goes to work on decorating. Later, Tony calls Carly from the hospital, and explains that Lucas is alone with the housekeeper on the island. He has to go get Lucas, and he doesn't know when he'll be back. She starts to tell him that she's saving the star on the tree for him, but he has already hung up. The doorbell rings, it is Jason. "Now it's your turn, I need a friend," he says. Jason rants at Carly about Sonny's heroin overdose, angry he wasn't there, feeling it's all his fault, how stupid Joseph was. He's (Sonny's bodyguard) unhappy that he wasn't there for Sonny. He wants to call Robin. After the call, Carly says his face changes when he talks to Robin, and he says "so does yours, when you talk about Dr. Jones."

Carly and Jason jabber with each other about Robin and friendships. Carly expresses her fears that someday Tony might listen to other people and leave her. She says she like him, and he's the best friend she's had in a long time. He playfully tells her she's ok since he doesn't have to sleep with her any more. In mock anger she throws something at him, and as they rough house a bit, Tony comes in. Carly tells Tony she didn't expect him back so soon. "I guess not," he replies with a touch of testosterone showing. When Carly asks about Lucas, Tony says he has to return to him, and he may not be back for a while. An anxious Carly wants to know if he'll be back for Christmas. Tony tells Carly he can't leave Lucas alone, but he'll make it up to her. At first she's hurt and snaps about Bobbie but then tries to be understanding and offers him a quickie. Unbelievably, he declines and leaves. A singing Carly decorates the Christmas tree and hangs three stockings.

Tony comes home to the apartment, where Carly has hung three stockings with care, for her, Tony, and Lucas. The tree and presents are beautiful, and she greets him in her elf cap. She is very excited, and says she found a neat game for Lucas. Tony says Lucas can't come for Christmas as long as Carly is around. Carly takes off her elf hat and disappointedly asks why Lucas can't come there. Tony says because he's suing Bobbie for custody and Justus insisted that she not see Lucas until the case is settled. Carly is upset that she can't see Lucas and that a court could see her as a bad influence on Lucas and Tony. Tony says she shouldn't take it personally. Carly says Bobbie divorced Tony and married Stephan without a word, but somehow they look like the bad people. Tony says he has to move back into the Brownstone. Carly is devastated, her abandonment fears played out. Tony says he has to be where Lucas can be. She gives him his stocking. Tony says they won't serve the papers until after the holidays. She says if that will help with getting Lucas, she'll do her best to go along with it. Jason stops by and Carly gives him a Christmas present. Its a key chain. She didn't want to get him anything too personal as she didn't want to upset Robin.

At home, Carly flashes back to hearing Tony requesting Bobbie as an assistant for the surgery he is doing on Kat. He tells her that Bobbie is the most qualified nurse for the job and that one has nothing to do with the other. Carly does some thinking of her own about what Tony has said and of her own feelings of insecurity. She leaves soon after and heads for GH. Bobbie tells Tony about Nikolas. Carly comes up and announces to Tony and Bobbie that she just talked with the physical therapy department and that they are willing to give her her old job back. She asks Tony if he would like to go somewhere and celebrate.and tells them that she got her old job back. Tony hugs her, and Bobbie says, poisonously, "Congratulations" and leaves. Carly gives her a snide little wave.

Later, Bobbie tells Carly she is surprised she wants to go back to physical therapy instead of nursing. Carly confronts Bobbie by asking if she would have blackballed her if she chose to re-enter the nurse's program. Bobbie tells her she wouldn't have to because it's much more fun to sit back and watch her do damage to herself. She tells Bobbie that she is far from done with her yet and that people are saying some pretty nasty things behind her back that indicate she only married Stefan for the money. Bobbie alludes to the fact that Carly should know something about "behind the back" activities since that is her style, and tells her she's off to meet Tony for surgery. Carly reminds Bobbie in leaving that when she is done working with Tony, he will be coming home to her.

Tony brings Carly to the party at the brownstone. Everyone avoids Carly at the party. Felicia stars daggers. Bobbie shows up with Lucas, she didn't know Tony would be there, and certainly not with Carly. Tony agrees to sleep over so Lucas can spend the night with his friends and the morning with his dad. Carly feels neglected, then sorry for herself for winding up alone on New Year's, then yells at Tony, then leaves. New Year's Eve chimes midnight and the montage to "The Way You Look Tonight" plays as scenes of GHers are shown: Reggie hovers around Lila, and Brenda kisses Edward first on her way to Jax. Ned and Alexis toast, as do Justus and Dara. Robin calls Sonny and Jason. Sonny steers Gina away from Jason so Jason can take Robin's call.

Tony brings Carly a dozen long-stemmed roses to start the new year off right. They make love and right after, he tells her that he has to get back to his son, Tony reluctantly pulls himself away from Carly's embrace. He obviously came over just to get laid! Turns out he left his son alone. Bobbie shows up just as Tony returns (Lucas had called her and Bobbie was worried he was alone). Then Carly shows up with Tony's wallet, its obvious he had been with her. Though she repeatedly assures Tony she's fine with their current living arrangements, Carly grows bitter and resentful of her lover's long absences and the increasing amount of time he spends at the brownstone with Lucas.

Carly gets dressed up and goes out to Jake's, she's looking for Jason. He isn't there so she sits down to wait for him. Two jerks immediately hit on her. When they get increasingly obnoxious, Carly blows them off. Just as it looks like things are going to turn nasty, Jason strolls in and asks if there is a problem. The guys take off. Jason suggests that the next time she comes to Jake's that she might want to wear a bra or that the next time she is bored she visits a mall. She points out that he doesn't live at the mall. He asks if she and Tony had a fight. She says no that they don't fight but she does tell him about the problems she is having with Tony, mainly that he spends all of his free time with Lucas. She rants that it is all Bobbie's fault that Carly has to stay away from Lucas. She is furious over the double standard that Bobbie can be with Stefan but Tony can't be with her. She asks him if he thinnks she is trashy. He tells her not from the neck up! Then he says something really sweet about her not wanting people to look at her that she really just wants Tony to look at her. He tells her she deserves to be with someone who is happy to see her for her. She kisses him softly on the check, thanks him and says goodbye.

Carly is accosted by two guys in an alley outside the bar. When they make their intentions clear, their terrified target screams for help and is relieved to see Jason arrive with fists flailing. After Jason drives her attackers off, She flashesback to Luke talking about Bobbie's past as a hooker. Carly recalls how the men first offered her money and brokenly asks Jason why they would assume she was a whore. He becomes even angrier and goes back and beats up one of the goons again. He takes her back to her apartment. She starts rambling about why Tony hasn't asked her to marry him. Jason looks puzzled as he tries to follow along. He finally gets that she wants to marry Dr. Jones. She says that she would tommorrow! He offers to wait if she would like to take a bath. She later tells him that he is the best friend she ever had.

Tony comes in and Jason immediately takes off. Tony mentions Bobbie's dead daughter to Carly. Carly subtly asks about the father of the girl and if Bobbie kept in touch. Tony stumbles around the words that no, um. Carly gets the picture that Bobbie didn't know who the father was then a look of horrow crosses her face as she realizes it was a John. Devastated by this revelation about Bobbie, Carly takes to her bed and cries all morning. When Tony tries to console her, Carly claims she's being treated like a pariah at GH and bitterly blames Bobbie for leading the onslaught of negative energy. Carly snaps at Tony when he gently attempts to defend Bobbie. Tony advises a fuming Carly to rise above the pettiness at the hospital before she ruins his chance to obtain custody of Lucas.

Bobbie tells Tony that she hasn't been fair by not allowing him to tell Lucas about him and Carly. Bobbie then invites Carly to rejoin the nursing program and offers to remove herself from the evaluation process if it will make things easier for the young woman. Afterwards, Tony marvels at his ex-wife's gracious gesture but an irked Carly icily suggests that he's fallen for Bobbie's usual load of bull. The more Tony defends Bobbie the nastier Carly becomes. She tells he choose not to tell Lucas because he is ashamed of his relationship with her. Carly goes off on Bobbie being and ex-hooker. Tony sees a whole new side to Carly.

Carly is potting tulips that she has ordered from a catalog. Worried that his young lover is becoming too reclusive, Tony encourages Carly to get out of the apartment once in a while. Carly has black & white flashbacks to Luke talking about Bobbie's past, Tony saying Bobbie got pregnant by a "paying customer". She tries to leave the apartment by has an anxiety attack and can't bring herself to venture out the door. Following a short excursion outside, an anxiety-ridden Carly scurries back to the safety of her apartment but is appalled to find Luke comfortably ensconced on the couch in deep conversation with her lover.

Carly complains to Jason about the steel grip Bobbie still maintains on Tony despite the fact that they've divorced. She gets Jason to buy her groceries so she doesn't have to leave the house. Carly begs him to stay as she is so loney, Tony is at the brownstone most of the time. She tells Jason that she asked him to get her groceries so he would come over and she wasn't sure if he would if she asked him to just visit her. They have a nice heart to heart. She tells him about fighting with Tony over Bobbie and how she spends most of her days waiting for Tony. Jason tells her about Sonny going off on his own (this is when Harry has kidnapped Brenda and lured Sonny to meet him and they are taken to the cave). Jason is worried about Sonny, he too is waiting. He tries to get her to go to the pool hall with him. She can't bring herself to leave the apartment, she has to be there when Tony comes and have his dinner ready.

Carly finally ventures out of her apartment, and is back at GH. Carly is taken aback to accidentally catch a glimpse of an intimate gesture between Stefan and Katherine. Carly helps Katherine move back into her apartment, then perks up her ears when Miranda drops by and launches into a conversation about her friend's special visitor at GH. Carly introduces herself to Nikolas as she arrives to begin Katherine's first at-home physical therapy session. When Nikolas explains that he's going to teach her patient a form of Tai Chi she can do sitting down, Carly expresses approval of the plan and congratulates Katherine on having such loyal and helpful friends.

Luke comes to Carly's apartment and wants her to report back to him about Katherine. He thinks her and Stefan has something going on. Carly refuses to help him knowing any incriminating info he gets on Stefan he will tell Bobbie about. The last thing she wants is a free Bobbie. Luke tells her that if she can't hold onto her man with true love and hot sex then she might as well toss in the teddy. When Carly balks at spying for him, Luke threatens to tell "Dr. Feelgood" that his little love toy is in reality his stepdaughter who's been using him to hurt her mother. Carly warns Luke that she won't allow him to blackmail her indefinitely. Shrugging off the girl's anger, Luke advises her to remember that he's holding all the cards and will therefore be calling all the shots. Bobbie stops by and is surprised and hurt to see Luke there with Carly. He tells Bobbie that with Laura in Switzerland and her in "Slimeland" that he is craving female companionship. He tells her Ruby, Tony and Carly are the only family he has left. Bobbie is sickened by him using Carly's name in the same sentence as family (not realizing that Carly is really Luke's neice Caroline). Bobbie takes his acceptance of Carly as further proof that he hates her. Later as Luke & Carly are leaving (he is insisting on driving her to her PT appt with Katherine), Tony walks in and at first seems suspicious to see Luke there. He has a hard time buying that Luke is so easily accepting Carly in Tony's life. But gullible Tony accepts Luke's explanation about being lonely and invites him back anytime.

Carly is thrilled to return home and see Tony there. She runs into his arms and kisses him. She wasn't aware that Lucas is there. Lucas reacts badly after seeing his father kissing Carly. Lucas angrily orders Carly to go away and leave his daddy alone. Though Tony tries to reassure the boy that he loves him more than anyone else on earth, a sobbing Lucas accuses him of giving all his devotion to Carly instead. Carly feels hurt and bitter after Lucas insists that his mother come to take him home. Luke has Carly meet him at a restaurant. He wants to buy her dinner and she tartly responds that she would rather eat paint. Luke pumps Carly for information about her latest visit to Ms. Bell. Reporting that Stefan offered her employer a job, Carly tells Luke how Katherine apparently rejected the opportunity without missing a beat. When Luke pressures her to do better, Carly snarls at her uncle and threatens to stop cooperating at all. Luke gets a call that Bobbie is in the hospital, she was rescued from a fire by Tony. Carly and Luke head over to GH.

When Carly arrives at GH, she seems relieved to hear that Bobbie is allright. But she soon becomes jealous of all the attention Bobbie is recieving from Luke, Stefan, but especially Tony. After Tony leaves them, Luke tells Carly to cut the cracks as he knows if she didn't care she wouldn't be hanging outside Bobbie's room. Carly denies it and says she was just worried about Tony's safety.Carly whines to Tony about his saintly ex milking her situation for all the sympathy she can get. Carly forces herself to enter Bobbie's room. Bobbie is surprised to see her, even more when she wishes her well and a speedy recovery. Bobbie jokes about smelling like a fireplace and Carly thoughtfully shares a bottle of perfume with her. Bobbie then shocks Carly by telling her that despite everything she needs her. Carly is obviously touched. Bobbie feels bad that Lucas told Carly he hated her and promises to tell Lucas that Carly is not his enemy or hers. She wants Lucas to stay with Tony at the brownstone while she is recovering and asks Carly if she would mind. Carly isn't thrilled with the idea but actually understands since Lucas can't stand being with her at the moment and someone needs to take care of him.

Congratulating Katherine on a great workout, Carly wonders why her patient's attitude seems suddenly so upbeat. Carly comes home and is ticked when Tony isn't there again. She flashes back to happier moments. He comes home, she is so lonely and so desparate to hold onto him. He is all she has but more and more it seems like he just comes over for sex and then leaves. He makes love to her again and then leaves. She listens to the song on tape that he sang for her and sobs. Carly accepts a gift package for Tony from Spoon Island. She can't help but unwrap it and peek and when she sees the birthday paper she realizes in dismay that she's forgotten her lover's birthday. It is from Lucas, an art project he made in class. As she grabs her purse to rush out and by a present, she accidentally knocks the package off the table and breaks it. Carly attempts to repair the damage but finds it impossible.

Later, Carly's day gets worse as she learns that Virginia has had a stroke and may be dying. Luke stops by and Carly tearfully explains to Luke why she must hurry to Florida to see her adoptive mother. She seems afraid that he might not allow her to go. But Luke seems sad to hear about Virginia and also for Carly's pain. Carly explains to Luke how desperately she wants to make amends with her mother before Virginia dies. She does love Virginia and wants to thank her for all the love she gave her over the years.

Luke and Tony are discussing Bobbie in the hallway and Carly overhears Tony hoping Stefan isn't hurting Bobbie like he, Tony, did. Tony is surprised and happy to see Carly. She's brought him a present. The phone rings, and Luke asks about Virginia. He warns Carly to stick to the truth wherever possible. He leaves. Later, out of Tony's earshot, Luke warns Carly that her web of lies is growing more tangled with every passing day. Tony's gift is a sweater, but when Tony opens it Carly panics. She can return it if he doesn't like it. "Do you still love me?" She starts to tell him about "that childhood friend," and it looks like she'll tell the truth, but just then the doorbell rings. It's Lucas and Betty! Lucas leaps into Tony's arms, then pouts at Carly and says "Why is she always here?" Carly has had it with the brat. "I live here, Lucas. And I would appreciate that you'd remember that when you come into my house, you're a guest here." Tony bundles off Betty and Lucas and then starts a fight with Carly. "Why are you doing this? He's the one that's six!" Carly says, correctly, "He's old enough to treat me with respect. Now you ought to teach your son some manners." "He didn't mean anything."

"The hell he didn't mean anything! Now come on! I am sick and tired of dealing with his little temper tantrums and I am sick and tired of being left here alone while you run off with your son, or your ex-wife, or your patients or whoever else you can dream up to be with, instead of me." Tony is stunned and follows her into the bedroom. "I can't believe you're acting like this! Lucas is a small boy, he's hurt, he's confused."

"Lucas is manipulating you, Tony. He is sucking up your guilt and you are buying into it." Tony points out that Carly was the one who told him to spend time with Lucas. "Yeah, that was before he started showing up in my apartment telling me to Get out!" Tony throws up his hands and makes a big mistake, "It's like I've got two six-year-olds on my hands." Carly reacts, "Don't you do that to me, all right? Bobbie stubs her little toe and you rush off to be by her side. Now, Lucas, anything he wants he gets. God forbid I should ask you for one lousy evening of your time and suddenly I'm the spoiled child?" It gets worse, "Hey, Miss, you're way out of line here, because you knew exactly what you were getting into." She had thought he cared about her, but he left her Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Carly says Bobbie gets off seeing Tony jump through hoops, and doesn't need him. Tony calls her "wrong, mean-spirited, and petty." The more Carly attacks Bobbie the more Tony defends her. She is jealous over how much he worries over Bobbie. Carly tells him that Bobbie loves that he is so worried about Bobbie. He can't stand to hear Carly say anything negative about Bobbie. She tells him he is still in love with Bobbie. He defends that he had two children with Bobbie and was married to her for eight years and that isn't a switch that he can just turn off. Carly asks why is it that Tony is always defending Bobbie, yet he never defends Carly.

"You have spent more time protecting that woman than you have ever thought about me. Just once in my life I'd like to think you would do the same for me instead of that manipulative little witch!" "You don't say anything about my w--" Carly interrupts that Bobbie is no longer Tony's wife. Tony says he was going to say "his friend". He tells Carly that she is the most self-centered person he knows. He says rather than working on their relationship she wants to blame Bobbie for all their problems. He says he doesn't know who she is, that she is immature and doesn't make any sense. As the fight escalates, Carly furiously reminds Tony that his saintly ex-wife spent half her life turning tricks for a living. He is stunned by her cruelty when she calls Bobbie a low class whore. He questions why is it that Bobbie's past is so important to Carly. She almost breaks and says because, "She is my....." and doesn't finish the sentence. She stops and says, "she is my worst nightmare." Carly continues, "Bobbie is a cruel, manipulative liar." He tells her that he is sick of Bobbie rap and that she is the most self-centered person he knows or could even conceive. She asks him to clarify what is he saying, is he saying that it is over between them?
