BLACKSTAIRS This tour will take you through some off the beaten path mountain roads to the beautiful village of Inistoige. Here you can explore the local pottery, take a walk by the river or visit Woodstock. Woodstock is home to one of the most interesting tree plantations in Ireland. The old house burnt in the 1920s during the troubles stands overlooking the village. Onward to Greiguemanagh, you can visit the 12c restored Duiske Abbey and 8c High Crosses. From here we go to the Balckstair mountains where we will hike to Mt Leinster. St. Mullins is the next stop. A small monastary on the River Barrow with a nearby Mott and Bailey. Finally the market town of New Ross. Woodstock |
COUNTY KILKENNY This Tour takes in the many monastic sites in the county and some craft towns. To start with we visit the local waterfall and then the famine gardens. Aghervillar has a round tower, high cross and church. From Kells we see what was once the largest Cistercian monestary in Ireland. Located on the Kings river it also has some mills. Kilree has a round tower and high cross. Kilkenny city is regarded by many as the most beautiful inland town in Ireland. It was the medeval capital of Ireland. Sites include, Castle, St. Canices Cathedral, Blackfriars, Roath House and the Kilkenny Design Center. From here to bennetsbridge. This village is famous for its crafts - leather, ceramic and more. Nicholas Mosse has his factory and pottery shop here. From here to Kilfane to see the larges effegy in Europe - the Cantwell Fada and the lovely Kilfane Gardens. After this we journey to Thomastown and Jerpoint Abbey. |
WATERFORD Famous for its crystal it is also the oldest town in Ireland. It has a beautiful coastline with several beautiful villages. The tour goes along the coast stopping at beaches, villages and some dolmens. (These dolmens - ancient stone burial monuments are 4000 years old). Finally we have the commeragh mountains. We will first stop at the Mahon Falls and finally do a hike to one of the corries. These corries are among the deepest in Europe and are glacier lakes high in the mountains. Kilfarasey |

THE HOOK The tour starts in East Waterford at the fishing village of Passage East. Here we take the ferry to the Hook Village of Ballyhack, where stands a castle. This is said to have been build by the Knights Templar of St.John. From here we head south to the bay of Booley and Dollar. Duncannon beach and Fort are the next stop. The Fort was built by Cromwell in the 1600s. From here we take the short trip to Slade Castle and right to the tip if the pennisula to Hook Lighthouse. This is the oldest Light House in Europe. Next up is the 16km Bannow Drive with lovely vistas over bannow Bay where the Normans first landed in Ireland. Head north to Tintern Abbey and Dunbrody Abbey and Castle. Dunbrody has one of only 2 full mazes in Ireland. Finally the JFK abartorium and Homestead. The park was built in memory of JF Kennedy after a visit to his ansestoral area of Duganstown (10km from New Ross) in 1963. The homestead is where his gradfather Patrick was born. |

SOUTHEAST COASTAL This drive starts in Ardmore and goes the entire lenght of the coast to Wexford. It combines much of the Waterford and Hook Tours plus some a final few miles to Wexford Town itself. Most of the sights include the wild Atlantic Ocean, some ancient castles and burial sites and old monastic sites. It can be done all in one day or taken over a few days with more time to explore and learn about all the history. There are several museums and galleries on this route as well as award winning resturants. |
