October 30,2002

Many of you that were watching Channel 3 and Channel 13 the past few days witnessed the raid on Laddie Lewis Monday.  Fayette County Animal Rescue, the Fayette County Sheriff's Department and Fayette County Animal Control descended on Mr. Lewis' property at 12noon to seize and search and save many animals lives that were in jeapordy.  Two of the horses that had initiated the investigation were missing.  These two horses were documented by the University of Tennessee-Agricultural Division a couple of weeks ago as severly underweight and because of this we were able to seize all of his animals.

All horses, donkeys and mules were immediately checked by Dr. Stephen Galloway and Tech Allison Riles of Animal Care Hospital at the "FCAR Safe Haven" sight where these animals were immediately transported.  Blood was drawn for tests and these animals were wormed. Further medical care will be provided as tests results come in and the animals will be moved in pairs to different foster homes until the courts decide what to do with them.  Dr. Lauren Wiltshire examined all the dogs that we seized and found several needing hospitalization and of course several are heartworm positive; all were vaccinated and dewormed and will be spayed/neutered as soon as they are healthy enough to do so.

Those involved in the seizure were Timmy Lipford, Fayette County Animal Control, Bill Crook Fayette County Animal Control and FCAR volunteers Cheryl Sexton, Yvette Gilbert and myself Delores Provow.  Thanks to Butch Rhea of the Fayette Falcon for participating. You can catch his story in this week's Fayette Falcon by calling 465-3567 for newspaper locations or requesting a subscription to his paper.  50% of the proceeds from a two year subscriptiongoes to Fayette County Animal Rescue.
