This day changed our country and many lives forever. I recall visiting the World Trade Center while on a high school trip and looking down from the observation deck to the street below. The cars were so small you could barely make out what ones might be cabs and the people were so small you could only tell where groups were moving and where there was pavement. I remember being a small town girl having a few terrifying moments deciding if I should approach the windows to look down and as I did feeling like I was falling and the thought of a plane hitting the building was in our heads before we ever entered the elevator. Even with all this fear we went and we saw and we conquered. I knew that morning before the announcer even spoke that the image I saw on the television was the World Trade Center and I cried for hours and never left the chair I sat in until 1:00 pm that afternoon.

I watched as the reports continued concerning the planes hitting the Pentagon and crashing in Pennsylvania. I prayed for the families and those who might have survived and for our President and elected leaders. I thanked God that the election went as it did because it seemed that the outcome had to be the hand of God by the way the election was determined. I thank God for the team that is in place to lead this country at this time in our history. Could Gore have done as well? Perhaps, but I think we are all blessed that the events have come to pass in this way.

As President Bush requested in a California Town Hall Meeting when asked by a Military Clergyperson how we could pray for him, he requested that we pray for protection for this country, its leadership and ourselves and our allies. This is a reminder to those who do and those who haven't to spend time with God and stand in unified prayer for all that is good and kind and loving in this world.
