History: In 85'703, the rebellion leaders inside the Resbinarge Empire decided to make a move to leave the nation. Using various methods to leave the Empire while being pursued by the Imperial fleets ships, the rebel's made a hasty get away to the other side of the nation of Resque to a large area of unclaimed terriotry.
Most of the rebels made it and after the short pursuit, the Imperial vessels turned back, their attention needed elsewhere. Now far away from the Empire, the rebels decided to settle and create their own little nation. However, the decision as to what to call the nation was one off debate. The more militant personnel would call it Plantia, the more peaceful persons instead called it Planica. Both names were taken in honour of the twin planets in Resbinarge where it is often through the Rebellion had started.
From here, history gets a little hazy with the nation. For the next five millenia, the nation of Planica / Plantia expanded and it is known that there was a war with a number of Lance colonists who had settled in the southern most point of the nation's terriorty. The nation successfully suceeded in driving these out, much to the hatred of the Lances. There was also a lot of internal structural changes within Planica / Plantia.
By 90'873 SC, the twin nation was becoming known as an Empire, especially after their drive to include a couple of independant colonies that had set up in the area and the wiping out of the Lance colonists. There was now a Mistelareia Empress sitting on the throne and the Mistelareia had become a ruling upper class within the Empire. This was a far cry from what the situation had been five millenia before hand when the rebellion had struck out against another oppressive ruling Empire. However, the tables were turned, with the Mistelareia and Funok ruling the nation and the Humans and Elayans becoming the submissive classes.
However, the Empire suffered from dividing philosophies within it's upper classes. Called the twin Empire because of it's two names, there was no seperate terriotries or solar systems for each name, rather it represented what an individual's perference was to idealogies of the nation.
Those who subsribed to the Planica ideology have always been the more peaceful of the two. Thoughtful in their actions and kind in heart, the generousity of a Planica individual is a kind thing indeed. In fact, many people who subscribe to Planica way of thought disagree with the whole idea of the Empire itself, though recognise that changing it now is near enough impossible.
On the other hand, those of the Plantia ideology are the more hasty and instinctual. They know of the history of oppression in Resbinarge and are determined that the Mistelareia and Funok off this nation will not be subjected to that same ordeal. They see the only way to defending the nation is via a show of strength and it is Plantia individuals who are responsible for keeping the Empire the way it is.
The political manaeveuring within the hierarchies thus becomes very interresting, with both Planica and Plantia nobles trying to get their views heard and actioned. Empresses could end up following one or the other of the philosophies and depending on which was currently favoured by the Empress and her courts would determine how Planica / Plantia would act that time.
| Dealing with the twin names of one nation |
| There are several ways of dealing with the Planica / Plantia Empires twin names. Saying both nation names at the same time is quite uncommon as it becomes a bit of a mouth full, instead one normally chooses one or the other to use. For those inside the Empire, which one is used depends upon which ideal that one actually follows. Outside of the Empire, most call it by whatever the philosophy the Empress currently follows (as this pretty much defines the way the nation acts), though there are exceptions (for example, the Resbinarge Empire, Kyraken, Iras Mirage and the Lances always refer to the nation as the Plantia Empire while Delta Feareo, Cyran Dor, Requis and Psi Omas always call it the Planica Empire). |
Technically, no peace treaty was ever signed between the Lances and the Empire and though hostilities fell off, it is still recorded that the Empire and the Lances are still at war to this day, though neither actively pursue this to the grand scale that other nations would pursue a war with. On occasion however, a skirmish will kick up between the two nations and battle or two occurs, only to die down again. However, it is known that the Empire maintains very good relations with the Cyran Dor Confederacy and assist them where they are capable in tracking down and destroying Lance bases throughout C69.
In 91'982 SC however, Planica declared war on the nation just to south of them called Iras Mirage. Evidence had come to light that trading nation of Iras Mirage was one of the made sources of illegal trading and smuggling throughout C69, even trading at times with the Lances. However, Iras Mirage was not a warring nation and found themselves being quickly punished by the Empire. Within a decade, over half of the Iras Mirage solar systems were occupied by the Empire and the nation had to resort to emergency measures within the political halls of the Assembly of Nations.
Pointing out how hopelessly weak they were against the Empire, Iras Mirage convinced half the nations in C69 to side with them. The message put to the Empire was clear, with draw from Iras Mirage space or face war with half the galaxy. Clearly out numbered, the Empire reluctantly withdrew from Iras Mirage space allowing the nation to rebuild itself. Meanwhile, still convinced of Iras Mirages illegit dealings, they imposed a trade embargo instead on Iras Mirage, allowing no Iras Mirage vessels into the Empire.
Things became relatively peaceful for a while now within the Empire until 94'003 SC when a the Empire got involved in a dispute between the League of Independance and the Independant Alliance. Being on good terms with the League of Independance, they gave their full support to the League. This caused contention however between the Alliance and the Empire and war errupted once more.
The war was a brutal one and one which caused severe damage to both sides. As the Independant Alliance quickly tried to maneaveur troops in from other parts of the galaxy while trying to watch their backs that they were not attacked from other angles, the Empire in return started a program of mass fleet construction that crippled the Independant Alliance's systems in the surrounding area. To this day, the effect on the Alliance planets around the area of Planica can be heavily seen, many world's still bearing the scars.
It was the nation of Delta Feareo who however stepped into intervene through the Assembly of Nations. Considered on friendly terms with both nations and fighting it's own war against the Resbinarge Empire, Delta Feareo in 98'564 SC managed to negotiate a truce between the two sides, offering an opening up of trade lines with itself and it's corporations to both sides if they could settle their differences. Considering the development of Delta Feareo's Mega-Corporations, both sides realised how much of a lucrative deal this could be and agreed, signing a non-aggression pact in the star system of Carmonius in Delta Feareo. Though the Alliance and the Empire still do not see eye to eye, they are both bound to the oath of not attacking one another by this Treaty of Carmonius.
Peace however was short lived for the Empire. Under the rule of a Plantia swayed Empress in 99'248 SC, war was declared on the Kyraken Empire after information was leaked to the Empire of their technology being stolen by Kyraken. Kyraken denied it but the evidence was compelling and so the two sides ended up fighting. This war continues to this day.
Current Status: Planica / Plantia Empire is still at war with Kyraken, one which causes a bit of undue stress for the independant star systems that lie between the two nations for both have begun constructing bases in the corridor stretch that leads to the other nations and battles in independant space is frequent. Though the Empire does it's best not to interfere with star systems that belong to the Independant Alliance, any other star system seems to be fair game and often innocents become caught in the battle.
Meanwhile, inside of the Empire, the current Empress subscribes to the Planica ideal and is currently looking for ways to end the war in a peaceful way. Yet, most of the court still holds with the Plantia persuassion which causes a conflict of interrest in the upper hierarchy. For the Plantia way of thinking, the war currently preoccupies the Humans and Elayans of the nation and therefore the risk of any rebellion is minimalised.
Yet in the Dark Thaum's of the Empire, dissension is in the air...
