Well, my mother is Japanese, my father is a mixture of Spanish, German, and Irish.

Anyway, heres another picture. Theres supposed to be a story behind it, I'll leave it to you to take it seriously. A small group of people were exploring an old, abandoned asylum (hold on give it a chance) to take pictures of the architecture. Like any old asylum, it had a bloody history, but the art inside was fantastic. The person who took this photo was actually trying to get a very nice looking mural in the shot, and look at what turned up. After he took the picture, it was posted in the office at which they worked for other people to see. It's made it's rounds, as you can see with the frayed edges and tape to repair tears.

I'll be back later tonight with more stuff.

It was based on a true story. There were no ghosts, but the mansion IS real. A ritual was performed where a girl would be raised, and deprived of the outside world. The girl would eventually be blindfolded, then would be tied to 2 herds of bulls [maybe buffalo or horses, cant remember], the bulls would be provoked to run in opposite directions. The girl would be torn apart. That is a brief summary. Anyways, one day the current ritual girl was outside, and saw a man that was passing by. They supposedly fell in love and when she died, the ritual was "ruined" due to emotions. The main guy of the mansion (iuno who it was) went crazy, and killed everyone in the mansion with a katana. He then impaled himself. I cant remember if he impaled himself on purpose. Try looking it up, I obviously cant remember much of it. =P

I've just finished reading the entire thread. Loved the Japanese ghost stories!

But the "Old Hag" syndrome... god, that's never happened to me before and I pray it never does. I would absolutely **** myself. :-/

Thankfully, I don't really have many experiences with the "paranormal".... I can only recall one real time. I was in my room, and could faintly hear a girl crying... I figured it was my sister, or something. Shortly thereafter, I went downstairs to get some lunch and asked what she was crying about. My parents gave me some "?_?" faces.... my sister was at work, and had been for several hours.... so it was probably just the wind I heard, or something. Still...

I also vaguely recall a story my friend told me (I'll chalk it up to night terrors). He woke up in his bed & heard someone walking down the hallway, and for some reason this scared him (guess he realized it wasn't his dad or something), and the footsteps continued right up to the edge of his bed, beside him. He got the courage to look, and nothing was there...

But that goddamn Hag syndrome... funny how your story was EXACTLY like the definition of Old Hag Syndrome mentioned earlier in this thread. Slightly disturbing if it's true! =/

My parent's new neighbors asked me to take a tour of their house a few months after they had moved in. Now, I had never been anywhere in that house before, except into the side door landing. But as they were taking me through the house, they could see that I was getting very uncomfortable, the further in we went. As we got to the upstairs bedrooms, I said that there was someone else there. Now I never knew who lived there before, but I do remember they left suddenly. There was a definite male presence there, and it didn't enjoy my being there. On the way downstairs, I felt as though someone had just tried to push me down the stairs. I was the last person in line.
This presence enjoyed watching the mother in this house (can't say's I blame him, she's a MILF), but she has since left that room, and moved her son into that room. He gets the feeling that he's being watched, but in a protective way.

Well, thanks a lot guys. I think this thread’s causing my mind to play tricks on me. First, I couldn’t fall asleep for the longest time, because I was afraid I’d wake up & some old hag would stab me in the chest. But that’s not the thing I want to get to.

The way the porch lights are set up in my backyard, their light can easily shine on the ceiling of my room (I’m on the 2nd floor of our house, btw). Normally I have blinds set up to keep the light out, but just recently my folks decided to refurbish our windows, and as such, no blinds. So my room, normally pitch black, had a bit of a glow to it & porchlight on my ceiling.

Well, sure enough, while trying to fall asleep (with my eyes wide open – yeah, that’s gonna help) I saw some shadows creep onto my ceiling. Thought for a second I was seeing things, or dreaming, but sure enough they were there for a moment… and gone almost just as fast. I get up to look out the window (familiarly recalling the story of the guy seeing the huge creature when he was 4 that scarred him for life) but see… nothing. SOMEHOW (probably fatigue?) I decide to just go into my backyard and see wtf happened. As I got to my back door, I saw it!

IT WAS THERE, IN ALL ITS TWISTED GLORY.

My cat, and she wanted to come inside. :P

My parents had already gone to sleep and forgot to let her in for the night. And thus, the mystery of the shadows was solved… for today. :p

I decided to Google some basic information on "Himuro Mansion."

This is from http://www.cameraslens.com/himuro.html

What TECMO® has said concerning the Himuro Mansion
(quote by Makoto Shibata, Chief Producer of Fatal Frame):
In an area outside Tokyo, there lies a mansion in which it’s said seven people were murdered in a grisly manner. On the same property, there lie three detached residences that surround the mansion, all of which are rumored to have ties to the mansion’s troubled past. It’s said there is an underground network of tunnels that lay beneath the premises, but nobody knows who made these tunnels or what purpose they served. Many inexplicable phenomenon have been reported occurring on the property. Bloody handprints have been found splattered all over the walls. Spirits have been spotted on the premises… even in broad daylight. A narrow stairway leads to an attic where a spirit-sealed talisman is rumored to be locked away. Men have sought this talisman, only to be found later with their bodies broken and rope marks around their wrists. There’s a crumbling old statue of a woman in a kimono, but its head is missing. If you take a photo of a certain window, a young girl can be seen in the developed picture. These incidents have provoked fear in the people of Tokyo, and many believe that those who live near this area will become cursed. The deaths of those seven people are unexplained to this day."

Basic Facts concerning Himuro:
- Himuro is a very popular name in Japan. Think of it as the equivalent to the last name 'Smith' in the US or 'Lee' in China. Because of this, if there actually is a mansion, it's most likely not called the 'Himuro' mansion. This is probably to keep the mansion from becoming a tourist attraction to gaming fans.

- The actual mansion that Himuro was supposedly based on, most likely looks nothing like the mansion in the game. Not to mention, the Himuro mansion's construction is very similar to a lot of old residences in Japan, so even though you might come across a place that looks like Himuro from the game, it doesn't necessarily mean that the mansion *is* the Himuro mansion.

- A series of horrific mysterious murders took place at the mansion (I think it was seven murders, supposedly in the early 1900s*), which is the whole reason it's haunted to begin with. (nothing involving sacrificed shrine maidens and secret rituals. (And anyone who claims otherwise this is pretty much lying.))
* This date cannot be confirmed or proven

Online Rumours concerning Himuro:
(Note, these are RUMOURS/HERESAY/UNPROVEN information,
and I cannot currently back them up!)

- The mansion is supposedly on private property
- Another name for the Himuro Mansion is the Himikyru Mansion.

From the same website.

Why the mansion might not exist at all:
1. The most obvious reason is that the story comes from the rural mountain areas and it's a ghost story. While a lot of ghost stories are based on fact, it is also good to note that some are just stories meant to scare people.

2. The mansion is reportedly on private property and people currently live there. I would like to note, that this has been mentioned a lot online, and I don't have an actual definative source for this, but this would make sense as to also why the actual mansion's name has not been made public if it exists. It also could be an excuse why it's hard to find the mansion, go inside, and why the mansion itself may not exist at all.

3. 'In an area outside of Tokyo' is extremely vague. That's like saying 'in an area outside of New York City'. Gamezone reported that 'both stories originated from the rural mountainous regions of Japan'. Still, not much help in the area of where exactly this supposed mansion actually is.

4. The Japanese Version of Fatal Frame *never* included the tagline 'based on a true story'.

5. It is very likely given current evidence that the mansion was created from several stories/locations of different haunted places in Japan, and not one specific place.

Hrm... that Himuro Mansion thing is kinda interesting.

Although, something I'd like to note, is that it could, conceivably, exist on some level. In that I mean that the mansion could be, say, as opposed to any real mansion a very large house, perhaps mansion-like, in which 7 murders (Grisly at the time of discovery) happened and no one later really reported any hauntings about later. Hype could have started, someone spooked about thinking they saw a ghost while passing it or heard a strange noise that spooked them. And, from there, it could have escalated. Until the Urban Ghost Story, based upon a real occurance, became so popular that someone based a video game upon it.

Or it could be totally fake and the "Based on a true story" thing being a marketing ploy for the American release to get better sales.

What the previous poster didn't say about La Bete:

Brotherhood of the Wolf was actually based on the true story of La Bete.

And by the way, when an animal was killed and the killings stopped, they discovered that the creature was a wolf-dog, and that it had no diseases. So it must've attacked people because the dog half. 'Cause wolves don't attack people like that in the few areas where they're habituated (Lost fear of humans) and actually do attack.

this has been an awesome thread. thought i might take part in it.

my house may be haunted because of multiple events that have occured in here. anyways...the most recent deals with a jam session with a few friends, we were just messing around on my drums and what not. anyways, we recorded this song with us screaming alot, and as we were playing it back...we were laughing, and my friend Mady, looked into my kitchen and saw an old man. she asked if my grandpa was there but, we were the only people in my house. so my friend mark and i went into the area where the guy was seen and there was this cold spot. we freaked out becuase, the ac was off, and my house was very warm. that wasnt the first time this guy has been spotted in my house.

i have more, but its late

Here's a couple I found. Interesting, although definately capable of being fakes as there are no negatives to look at.

The original:

Still can't see it?

Marked close-up:
http://img63.exs.cx/img63/9495/Cathedral2.jpg

And here's the story of the picture:
"This picture was obtained about 20 years ago when I was in Germany (in the Army). I bought a box of picture frames at a resale shop and when I got back home I discovered this picture in one of the frames. If you look at the center, behind the person being photographed, and on the second level, you will see what appears to be a Ghost. And it's up behind a railing so I think it could be the real thing. We really don't know much about it, just that it's a church somewhere, maybe in Germany, that's where my husband found it in the early 80's. We have submitted it to several ghost hunter sites and they have posted it, if any one knows where this was taken or any info on it we would be glad to know. Whatever it is the apparition on the balcony is eerie to me."

Very cool thread. That someone brought up Shadowlands gave me a giggle.. I used to live next door to one of the staff and would go over all the pictures people sent in with him. And helped disprove several too. There's a couple though.. gave me severe heebiejeebies.

The Bunny Man story reminds me of Bandage Man. Said to haunt highway 101 in Oregon around Florence. Read alot of accounts about him, but never got the nerve to go look for him. Saw some other stuff, but never the Bandage Man. Lots of creepy stuff up in Oregon and Washington. But Texas has some creepy spots as well, as I have found pretty much everywhere does.

Happy Hauntings!

Bunny Man in Florence? =P That sounds just amusing enough for me to get really stupid and decide to check out one of these days. It'll be like the Blair Witch. Only with bunnies. And.... Only one person. And... Equally lacking in paranormal activity of witchcraft/bunny men. Oh, and I'd be the guy that mentioned the Shadowlands. Only because it was the only thing I've ever found that mentions the haunting at my high school outside of a few hushed mentions inside of said school.

Anyway. Some more interesting things. Apparantly someone on ebay inherited a bunch of haunted items and doesn't like them, and as such us tossing them up for people to take off her hands.

"A not to well known local legend in Cannon Beach is the Bandage Man, a spirit said to haunt the highway outside of the town. The Bandage Man is said to leap onto the backs of passing cars and kill the passengers. He is also said to eat dogs and people say he smells of rotting flesh. No one is quite sure where he came from but the most popular theory seems to be that he is the spirit of a man that died in a accident in the old mill and sucks out other people's spirit's to survive. The government in Cannon Beach tries to keep him quiet because it would hurt tourism."

Taken from Cannon Beach's website:
http://cannon-beach-oregon.wikiverse.org/

I've talked to people that have "seen" him. I'm not sure what they saw, I do know something scared the bejeezus out of them. I never went looking for him, as tempted as I was, because if he does exist.. I didn't want him to eat me. Or my dog.

Hrm... I'm not sure how great my sense of self-preservation is. Whenever I immediately see "He tries to kill you" in relation to a ghost... My next thought is immediately "Oh! Oh! Time to go on vacation! I'm gonna test me odds!". I suppose it's my stupid desire to see as much paranormal or weird stuff as humanly possible.

Or, at the very least, get a claim to fame by doing something incredibly moronic but managing to capture it on film and become super famous as "That guy who was stupid and caught X on film".

I have had a personal experience that really really scared me. I remember when I was about 11 or 12, I went out into the garage to do the laundry, because that's where we kept the machines. When I was about done with the laundry my dad's van, out of nowhere, began shaking and flashing it's lights. It was like the car was alive. I came in the house and told my dad what had happened. He didn't notice anything, and I was thinking how he could have not hear that. That garage at my old house sure was creepy.
