To do no evil;
To cultivate good;
To purify one's mind:
This is the teaching of the Buddhas.
--The Dhammapada
The following is an extract - by Venerable Master Chin Kung
Recently a student came to me and asked how to practice Buddhism. The answer is the Four Universal Vows of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas:
(1 ) Sentient beings are innumerable, I vow to help them all;
(2) Afflictions are inexhaustible, I vow to end them all;
(3) Ways to practice are boundless, I vow to master them all;
(4) Enlightenment is unsurpassable, I vow to attain it.

Dear Visitors, Brothers and Sisters of the Dharmma,
I started this page initially in 1997 titled Buddhism for Beginners aimed for beginners practicing Buddhism. I was then studying in Kuala Lumpur and of course I am a beginner myself. This webpage was originally hosted at www.angelfire.com/pa/livin
until today.
The objective of me creating this website is to share my knowledge and experience practising Buddhism with other beginners. In the past years, I have received e-mails from people around the world who are practising Buddhism and some who are scholars doing research in Buddhism. I do have to apologise that this website is not intended for researches but there are several links to outside pages here which may be useful.
The Buddha once walked in a forest and grapsed a handful of leaves. He said that the handful of leaves are the Buddha's teachings compared to the number of leaves in the forest.
This humble webpage is not all one can find on the practise of Buddhism as a Way of Life. I do invite all visitors here to suggest and propose any new articles which you may want to put up here - please e-mail me alaneth@hotmail.com . Please also bear with the various pop-up ads on this page as this page is free. Do not take it as 'annoying' - that is not how a Buddhist should react. Think of it as a positive way - if you feel annoyed, it is your attachment to something perfect, beautiful - we learn to care and share with others. I thank the host of this website to allow me to publish my website for free here and I do welcome all ads placed by others on this website.
Generally, in my understanding, the practice of Buddhism in life is to be respectful to the Buddhas, to understand our existence and to be kind and compassionate to all living beings. Being kind to all living sentinel beings is the basis of all religions in the world. Shall everybody uphold this essence of their teachings, the world will be a much better place to live in.
Thank you & have a pleasant visit to this website.
Regards,
Alan Ee
