Red to violet
Red to violet is from Haarlem, Holland and has released one album so far. The band is a duo including El (the singer) and Onno. The music that the band plays is not that music I normally play at home, but I have from time to time listen to other similarly artist. The album starts of with the single 'Here I am' that has got airplay in US and other places. It's a catchy tune that suits the radio. The band has been compared with Eurythmics and Pretenders, but they have in my opinion they have an own sound that is more like powerpop than Eurythmics or Pretenders. Their songs don't are your typical three minutes songs they are has a life of their own. My favourite song on the album is the second track 'Mother earth' that really are great. The music has in many songs kind of laid back feel that really is good. The voice of the female singer El has interesting voice gives the music a feeling that lifts many of the songs to a higher level that an other singer might not have done. The song 'The way you are' are good example how that band sounds and the title and part of the lyrics 'You don't have to perfect to be loved…' really fits in the picture of the band and it's music. Red to Violet has their sound and makes it good but not perfect. If it would be perfect it would not be as interesting as if production leaves things that could easy be removed because it not fit in the picture of that the music should sound like. I have some albums that have too much production and every song lacks that little extra to make it interesting. On this album the production is just right it sounds produced but not over produced. It is nice to hear a song like 'Growing pains' that are bit different than other songs. What is the conclusion then? The album has some really good songs like 'Mother earth' and 'Here I am' that surly could be worth to buy this album. Their are more songs than the one that I mention that are good and nice to have songs that breaks out from the rest of the albums songs like 'Growing pains' and Better days'. Maybe the album would improve if their was maybe one more of this type of songs. This is something that we will never know. Don't forget to check out their web site.
