Few players are more dangerous with men on base than Edgar. A virtual RBI machine, he racked up a career-high 145 of them in 2000 to go along with a .324 batting average and a career-high 37 home runs. One of the game's most consistent hitters, Edgar has hit over .300 for six consecutive seasons and 10 times overall since 1987. He led the Major Leagues with a .343 average in 1992 and has recorded more than 30 doubles every year since 1995. No wonder folks are starting to talk about him as a possible Hall of Fame candidate.

Few players in the game have better home-run power from foul pole to foul pole than Martinez. He always seems to have a plan, and when he hits one, he usually makes it look like he had been anticipating the pitch all along. He's one of the most patient hitters in the game, and occasionally lulls pitchers into laying the first one in there, only to make them pay immediately. Pitchers often try to move him off the plate early in the count, but it's a pattern he's grown used to seeing. He struggled at times against lefties last season, but that was not indicative of a career trend.

At the age of 38, Edgar shows no signs of slowing down. It was interesting to see him have his best offensive season at pitcher-friendly Safeco Field after so many years at the home-run happy Kingdome. But let's face it, Edgar can hit anywhere. Utilizing a selective approach, he waits for his pitch and drives it all over the field. He has good power and will rarely swing at a pitch out of the strike zone. It's no surprise that he ranks among the league leaders in on-base percentage year after year.

Edgar has spent his entire career with the Mariners and is the club's all-time leader in games played. Superstars like Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez have come and gone, but Edgar is still there -- hitting line drive after line drive.
