Let's Go Mets! July 31 - HOME GAME #54 vs Washington Nationals (54-46)

Matt Harvey (9-7) tries to shift the Mets gears and gain on the Nats who will pitch Gio Gonzalez (8-4) in what may be the biggest series of the year for the Mets.

53-50

Lets Go Mets! In a must win game Matt Harvey was impressive, throwing 7.2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 run, zero walks, and 9 K's. Wilmer Flores, after nearly being traded during the game Wednesday, knocked in the first Mets run, made a great grab at 2nd for an out, and in the 12th inning blasted a walk off home run to win the game. The bullpen was impressive, shutting down the Nats once Harvey left the game. Great to see Bryce Harper go Oh for 5 and get ejected after he was unhappy with a called third strike.

Ticket Cost: $93

Game #54 view

After the debacle that was the last two games against the Padres, this was a sweet 12 inning win over the 1st place Nationals. I arrived early and was excited by a text from my brother Dan who informed me that the Mets had traded for Detroit Tigers slugger Yoenis Cespedes. As I shared the news with Citi Field parking attendants, another fan got out of her car and was just as excited about the news too. Hopefully this is the bat that puts the Mets over the top to make the playoffs.

The Dark Knight coming through

I didn't take a lot of pictures as I was pretty riveted to the game going on before me. There was an annoying fan behind me that loved to yell in a very loud voice at every player who came up to bat. He would yell at the Nationals players to "Suck it" and used a bit of harsh language in his baseball discussions. Next to me were 4 youngsters about 10 or 11 who I could tell by their quick head turning and giggles that they didn't hear that sailor talk often.

The yells became less frequent as the game went on, I almost changed seats at one opportunity. But when Flores hit the game winner out of the park, I high fived him and his friend as if we had been buddies for years. We cheered and hollered over a great victory!
