HOME UPDATES
November 10th, 2007
We flew to Portland, Oregon on November 7th for Lindsey's cleft lip surgery. Her surgery was 11/8/07, our 4 month mark with her.

4:30 am before leaving for the hospital

She did well with the procedure. Her main issue is that she has become very clingy and I would say she is "stuck" to me. Sleep has been a rare thing since last tuesday night. I have to wonder what is going on in her little head. We utilized Shriners Hospital in Portland for her surgery and they were very good.

She was down in the holding room at 7:00 am on 11/8 and got versed to help her calm down. She is so funny with that drug!!! She was laughing and giggly.

Lindsey on versed and
very happy about it!

She was not even scared and did not cry at all when they carried her back to the operating room. We went and got breakfast and then went back to her room to wait. We ran into the ENT in the elevator and he told us her tube placement went fine and the plastic surgeon was starting her lip repair. The nurse called us when we got to her room to tell us that the doctor wanted to talk to us. That was a bit nerve-racking. It turns out she wanted to tell us that Lindsey actually had a small cleft on her right side and would have a bit more work than we first thought. Her surgery went from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. The recovery room nurses were very nice and kept talking about how big Lindsey is and how cute and good she was in the recovery room. She was not even crying.

Once we got back to Lindsey's room she began to figure out that the nurses would be doing "stuff." She had to get her lip cleaned often to prevent scabs and the scarring. She HATED that. It took two of us to get that done.

With my new lip!

She did not sleep at all that night. Finally at 4:00 am I found a wagon and started walking her around the unit. She would calm down but would NOT go to sleep. Finally I pulled the wagon up next to my chair in her room and just moved it back and forth. If I fell asleep Lindsey made sure I knew if she wanted to be moved!!

Friday morning Steve came back from the hotel and took over so I could take a nap. 3 hours of sleep was really good to get. We hung out in the room and then left for the airport at 4:00 pm.

The doctor did a great job and we are very happy. We are now dealing with a very clingy, and somewhat high maintenance baby! I told her to not get used to the royal treatment. We return to Portland in February or March 2008 for her palate surgery. That is the "big" one according to the doctor. I have included some pictures from the hospital.
