World Select Team coach Roy Rana started the following lineup: 6-7 MacKenzie Mgbako, 6-9 Leonard Miller, 7-0 Vincent Iwuchukwu, 6-4 Tyrese Proctor, and 6-3 Jean Montero.  USA Junior National Select coach Joe Mantegna countered with 6-6 Dariq Whitehead, 6-8 Dillon Mitchell, 7-1 Dereck Lively II, 6-4 Amari Bailey, and 6-4 Keyonte George.

 

Team USA trailed World Select 26-23 after the first quarter but outscored the visitors 28-19 in the second quarter to take control on their way to a 102-80 victory in this showcase event.  Team USA shot 51.9% from the field including 11 of 21 from the three point line.  They connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and committed 16 turnovers.  Team World shot 38.7% from the field including seven of 27 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 15 of 20 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and committed 18 turnovers.

 

6-6 Cam Whitmore led Team USA with 19 points on seven of eight from the field including two of three from beyond the arc, and three of four from the free throw line.  Dariq Whitehead added 17 points including five three point baskets, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  7-0 Kel’el Ware recorded 11 points and five rebounds.  Amari Bailey chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.  6-4 Nick Smith Jr. also scored 10 points.  Dillon Mitchell added six points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

 

Jean Montero led World Select with 23 points including four three point baskets, and five of six free throws.  6-8 Omaha Biliew added 12 points and six rebounds.  Leonard Miller recorded 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots.  Vincent Iwuchukwu chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

Ohio All-Stars 99  Kentucky All-Stars 84 (Girls)

 

Kentucky led 48-46 at halftime but Ohio roared back in the second half to earn a 99-84 victory.  Imarianah Russell was instrumental in the early minutes in the second half as she scored eight points to fuel a 12-2 run to propel Ohio to the lead.  Chance Gray came up big late as she hit some key three point baskets to allow Ohio to maintain their advantage. 

 

Chance Gray was named MVP for Ohio and paced the victors with 20 points including four three point baskets.  Imarianah Russell added 15 points and Claire Henson and Macie Taylor both reached double digits with 11 and 10 points respectively.  KK Bransford chipped in with nine points and had her normal all-around game.

 

Amiya Jenkins led the Kentucky All-Stars with 20 points including four three point baskets.  Jaileyah Cotton and Macie Feldman added 11 and 10 points respectively.

Kentucky All-Stars rallied from a 38-30 deficit at halftime to nip Ohio 85-84 on a free throw by Darien Lewis with 7.3 seconds remaining in overtime.  Ohio’s Tom House misses a last second three point attempt and Kentucky held on for the win.  Kentucky trailed for most of the game until they rallied in the final quarter. 

 

Turner Buttry led the Kentucky All-Stars with 13 points including two three point baskets.  Jabrion Spikes also reached double digits with 11 points.  Makur Bar, Mitchell Rylee, Dez Lindsey, and Victor Lado added nine, eight, eight, and seven points respectively.

 

Javan Simmons led the Ohio All-Stars with 13 points including seven free throws.  Tom House added 12 points including two three point baskets and Bowen Hardman recorded 11 points including three three point baskets.  Jagger Landers chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.

The East team raced out to a 58-38 halftime lead on their way to a 105-81 victory over the West squad.  The East team shot 59.2% from the field including nine of 25 from the three point line.  They connected on six of 22 free throws, pulled down 53 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 12 West turnovers.  West shot 37.8% from the field including eight of 28 from beyond the arc.  They connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 East turnovers.

IMG Academy raced out to a 22-10 first quarter lead on their way to a 67-48 victory over Bishop McNamara.  IMG Academy shot 49% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line.  The Ascenders connected on 11 of 11 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored eight points off eight Bishop McNamara turnovers.  Bishop McNamara shot 26.3% from the field including six of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Mustangs connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 17 IMG Academy turnovers. 

 

Grace Vanslooten led IMG Academy with 24 points including three of three free throws, 11 rebounds, and four assists.  Kailyn Gilbert added 15 points including four of four free throws, eight rebounds, and six assists.  T’iana Todd recorded 10 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Gabby Anderson chipped in with eight points, 11 rebounds, and three assists.

Franklin County vs. Lafayette (Girls) (Championship)

 

Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 6-1 So. Rachel Shropshire, 5-10 Sr. Patience Laster, 6-4 Jr. Jhaven Meade, 5-5 Sr. Nevaeh Carter, and 6-0 Jr. Jazmin Chambers.  Lafayette coach Allison Denton countered with 5-10 Sr. Olivia Cathers, 5-10 Fr. Savannah Simpson, 6-1 Sr. Anaya Brown, 5-1 Sr. Catherine Jacobs, and 5-5 Jr. Gracyn Grantz.

 

Franklin County trailed 15-14 at halftime but pulled away in the second half to defeat Lafayette by the score of 41-29.  Lafayette had an excellent game plan but was not able to knock down the open shots.  The score was tied three times and there were five lead changes in the game.  Franklin County shot 32.6% from the field including one of 17 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on 12 of 26 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored nine points off 10 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot only 15.6% from the field including three of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Generals connected on 12 of 16 from the free throw line, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored nine points off nine Franklin County turnovers. 

 

Patience Laster shot 11 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals.  Jhaven Meade added eight points and 10 rebounds.  Nevaeh Carter recorded seven points, nine rebounds, and five assists.  5-3 Fr. Leia Hogan chipped in with seven points and three steals.

 

Olivia Cathers led Lafayette with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Anaya Brown added nine points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.  Gracyn Grantz recorded six points and three rebounds.

Armelo Boone, and 5-11 Jr. Kai Simpson.  Henry Clay coach Daniel Brown countered with 6-2 Sr. Aziel Blackwell, 6-2 Jr. Kyan Miller, 6-7 Sr. Brenden Wicker, 5-9 Jr. Konlin Brown, and 6-1 Sr. Kanye Henderson.

 

Henry Clay pulled away late to defeat Frederick Douglass by the score of 41-37.  There were seven lead changes in this game.  Henry Clay shot 38.9% from the field including two of 12 from the three point line.  The Blue Devils connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 11 Frederick Douglass turnovers.  Frederick Douglass shot 35.1% from the field including one of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Broncos connected on nine of 20 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored eight points off 10 Henry Clay turnovers.

 

Kanye Henderson led Henry Clay with 14 points and four rebounds.  Aziel Blackwell added 12 points.  Kyan Miller recorded seven points and eight rebounds.  6-0 Jr. Mason Hawkins chipped in with four points on four of four free throws, five rebounds, and two steals.

North Daviess (27-3) vs. Lafayette Central Catholic (20-10) Class A (Championship)

 

North Daviess coach Bruce Dalrymple started the following lineup: 6-2 Jr. Lance Wilson, 6-0 Sr. Markus Britton, 6-3 Jr. Logan Wilson, 6-0 Sr. Devin Collins, and 6-0 Jr. Jaylen Mullen.  Lafayette Central Catholic coach David Barrett countered with 6-5 Sr. Clark Barrett, 6-5 Sr. Clark Obermiller, 6-5 So. Albert Schwartz, 6-1 Jr. Tanner Fields, and 6-2 Jr. Ben Mazur.

 

North Daviess controlled the tempo in the game and defeated Lafayette Central Catholic by the score of 48-46 in two overtimes.  Lafayette Central Catholic fell behind by 10 points in the third quarter but battled back to force overtime.  North Daviess led by three in the second overtime when Lafayette Central Catholic’s Clark Barrett was fouled on a three point attempt a fraction of a second before the final buzzer.  Barrett hit the first shot but after a timeout missed the second free throw and the Cougars claimed the championship.  There were seven ties and five lead changes in the game.

 

North Daviess shot 40.5% from the field including two of seven from the three point line.  The Cougars connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 Lafayette Central Catholic turnovers.  Lafayette Central Catholic shot 41.5% from the field including four of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 13 North Daviess turnovers.

 

Devin Collins led North Daviess with 15 points including five of seven free throws, five rebounds, and two steals.  Jaylen Mullen added 13 points including two three point baskets, three of four free throws, three assists, and two steals.  Logan Wilson recorded seven points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.  6-5 Jr. Brendan Stickles chipped in with seven points and five rebounds.

 

Clark Barrett led Lafayette Central Catholic with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals.  Clark Obermiller added 13 points and two rebounds.  Tanner Fields recorded eight points including three of four free throws.

Providence raced out to a 25-9 first quarter lead on their way to a 62-49 victory over Central Noble.  Providence shot 52.4% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Pioneers connected on 12 of 23 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 10 Central Noble turnovers.  Central Noble shot 39.5% from the field including four of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Cougars connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored nine points off nine Providence turnovers.

 

Casey Kaelin led Providence with 21 points including four of seven free throws, five rebounds, and three assists.  Grant Williams added 13 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, and two assists.  6-2 So. Quentin Hesse recorded 12 points including three three point baskets and two blocked shots.

 

Connor Essegian led Central Noble with 18 points including eight of 10 free throws, four rebounds, and three assists.  Ryan Schroeder added 12 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and four assists.  Logan Gard recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.

Zion Rhoades.

 

Beech Grove outscored Mishawaka Marian 17-9 in the final quarter to pull away for a 53-43 victory.  There were four ties and two lead changes in this game.  Beech Grove shot 36% from the field including five of 19 from the three point line.  The Hornets connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 19 Mishawaka Marian turnovers.  Mishawaka Marian shot 38% from the field including six of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on three of three free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 17 Beech Grove turnovers.

 

Anthony Ball led Beech Grove with 17 points including five of six free throws, 20 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  6-6 Jr. Cameron Brown added 13 points including three three point baskets and three rebounds.  Jeremiah Tate recorded 12 points, four rebounds, and nine steals. 

 

Richard Brooks led Mishawaka Marian with 13 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, and three steals.  Deaglan Sullivan added 10 points, two rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  6-2 Jr. Jackson Price recorded nine points including three three point baskets.  Kaleo Kakalia pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out three assists.

Indianapolis dominated tonight in a 65-31 over Chesterton to hand the Trojans their first defeat of the season.  Indianapolis Cathedral shot 46.6% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line.  The Irish connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 14 Chesterton turnovers.  The Irish also held a 42-18 advantage in points in the paint.  Chesterton shot 21.2% from the field including two of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Trojans connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Indianapolis Cathedral turnovers.

 

Jaron Gibbs led Indianapolis Cathedral with 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots.  Jaxon Edwards added 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals.  Xavier Booker recorded 13 points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Tayshawn Comer chipped in with 11 points, three rebounds, and six assists.  Jake Davis added nine points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots.

 

Tyler Parrish led Chesterton with seven points.  6-2 Sr. Carson Parrish also scored seven points.  Justin Sims recorded six points.  Travis Grayson chipped in with five points, six rebounds, and two assists.  Chris Mullen pulled down 10 rebounds.

Lincoln County coach Jeff Jackson started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Colton Ralston, 6-2 Sr. Jaxon Smith, 6-3 Jr. Jackson Sims, 5-11 Jr. Tramane Alcorn, and 5-11 Sr. Clayton Davis.  Jeffersontown coach 6-5 So. Lincoln County utilized a zone defense and hit some clutch shots late to earn a 45-41 hard fought victory over Jeffersontown.  Lincoln County led 28-20 at halftime but Jeffersontown rallied in the third quarter to tie the game at 35-35 at the end of three quarters.  Lincoln County shot 41.2% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Patriots connected on 13 of 22 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and committed 11 turnovers.  Jeffersontown shot 28.3% from the field including two of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Chargers connected on 13 of 19 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and committed 11 turnovers.

 

Jaxon Smith led Lincoln County with 14 points including eight of 11 free throws, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots.  Colton Ralston added 12 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and two steals.  Clayton Davis recorded nine points and five rebounds.  Tramane Alcorn chipped in with six points, three rebounds, and five assists.

 

6-4 Sr. Will Vasser led Jeffersontown with eight points including five of seven free throws, and seven rebounds.  Drae Vasser added eight points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Lavonte Harris recorded seven points and 11 rebounds.  6-5 Jr. Xavier Price chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.

North Oldham pulled away in the last quarter to defeat Muhlenberg County by the score of 36-32.  The score was tied eight times and there were four lead changes in the game.  North Oldham shot 34.9% from the field including three of 10 from the three point line.  The Mustangs connected on three of three free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 10 Muhlenberg County turnovers.  Muhlenberg County shot 37.8% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Mustangs connected on one of four free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored three points off seven North Oldham turnovers.

 

Luke Anderson led North Oldham with 12 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and seven blocked shots.  Anderson was six of seven from the field.  Dallas Roberts added 10 points including two three point baskets.  Grant Neal chipped in with six points.

 

Donovan McCoy led Muhlenberg County with nine points and four rebounds.  Cole Vincent added eight points and seven rebounds.  Trey Lovell recorded six points, two rebounds, and four assists.

George Rogers Clark pulled away in the second quarter on their way to a 77-36 victory over Perry County Central.  George Rogers Clark shot 55.2% from the field including eight of 19 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on five of five free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 19 Perry County Central turnovers.  Perry County Central shot 35.6% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Commodores connected on one of five free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored four points off eight George Rogers Clark turnovers.

 

Jerone Morton led George Rogers Clark with 22 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, seven assists, and two blocked shots.  Sam Parrish added 20 points including four three point baskets.  Trent Edwards recorded 13 points, five rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Tanner Walton chipped in with nine points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.  5-10 So. Reshaun Hampton added nine points and three rebounds.

 

Lanse McKenzie led Perry County Central with 10 points and five rebounds.  Tyler Day added nine points.

Pikeville outscored North Laurel 19-9 in the third quarter on their way to a 59-51 victory over North Laurel.  Rylee Samons came up big for Pikeville with 23 points and eight rebounds while the Panther defense held Reed Sheppard to 14 points on five of 20 from the field.  The score was tied three times and there were three lead changes in this game.  Pikeville shot 47.9% from the field including seven of 20 from the three point line.  The Panthers connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored eight points off 10 North Laurel turnovers.  North Laurel shot 36.4% from the field including five of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Jaguars connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored eight points off 11 turnovers. 

 

Rylee Samons  led Pikeville with 23 points including four three point baskets, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots.  Nick Robinson added 14 points,11 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Keian Worrix recorded 12 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, six assists, and two steals.  Tate Walters chipped in with five points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

 

Ryan Davidson led North Laurel with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists.  Reed Sheppard was limited to 14 points but he recorded eight rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots, and six steals.

Evan Ipsaro led Covington Catholic with 26 points including eight of eight free throws, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Chandler Starks added 21 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots.  6-2 Sr. Mekhi Wilson recorded 15 points, two rebounds, and three assists.  Mitchell Rylee chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.

Covington Catholic withstood a late rally by Lyon County to earn a 59-57 victory.  The score was tied four times and there were six lead changes in the game.  Covington Catholic led by nine points late in the second quarter but Lyon County rallied and the score was tied at 41 after three quarters.  Covington Catholic surged ahead in the final quarter but Lyon County rallied fueled by Travis Perry’s eight points in the final two minutes but CovCath responded to every challenge and ensured the victory on two free throws by Evan Ipsaro.  Covington Catholic shot 45.8% from the field including eight of 21 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 11 Lyon County turnovers.  Lyon County shot 42.9% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lyons connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 13 Covington Catholic turnovers.

 

Kascyl McGillis led Covington Catholic with 17 points including five three point baskets.  Mitchell Rylee added 16 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Brady Hussey recorded 13 points including three three point baskets.  Evan Ipsaro chipped in with eight points including four of four free throws, two rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

George Rogers Clark defeated Lincoln County by the score of 54-51 in two overtimes.  Lincoln County’s Jaxon Smith hit a basket at the buzzer in the first overtime to tie the score at 46-46 and force a second overtime.  George Rogers Clark’s Aden Slone hit six free throws in the second overtime and Jaxon Smith’s three point attempt at the buzzer for the tie failed to connect and GRC claimed the victory.  There were seven ties and three lead changes in this game.  GRC shot 36.7% from the field including three of 15 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 15 of 17 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored six points off four Lincoln County turnovers.  Lincoln County shot 33.9% from the field including three of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Patriots connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored seven points off seven GRC turnovers.

Chappelle Whitney led Warren Central with 21 points and four rebounds.  Jaiden Lawrence added 15 points including three three point baskets, four of five free throws, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Omari Glover recorded eight points including four of four free throws, six rebounds, and four assists.  6-4 So. Meade County coach Dina Hackert started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Annabelle Babb, 5-5 Sr. Aubrey Hardesty, 5-10 Jr. Katie Durbin, 5-4 Jr. Mattie Clanton, and 5-9 Fr. Peyton Bradley.  Boyd County coach Pete Fraley countered with 6-1 So. Audrey Biggs, 5-9 So. Taylor Bartrum, 6-2 So. Jasmine Jordan, 5-5 Fr. Isabella Opell, and 5-6 Fr. Emilee Neese.

 

Meade County rallied from 16 down in the third quarter to earn a 53-46 victory over Boyd County.  There were two ties and six lead changes in this game.  Boyd County led 29-16 at halftime as they dominated the boards.  Meade County utilized pressure defense after the intermission to get back in the game.  Meade County trailed 44-43 with 1:54 left in the game when a personal foul and a technical foul was called on Boyd County.  Meade Counted connected on all four free throws to take a 47-44 lead and never trailed the remainder of the game.  Meade County shot 32% from the field including six of 17 from the three point line.  The Green Wave connected on 15 of 17 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 23 Boyd County turnovers.  Boyd County shot 29.5% from the field including five of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Lions connected on 15 of 19 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored three points off 14 Meade County turnovers.

 

Peyton Bradley led Meade County with 23 points including four three point baskets, nine of 10 free throws, and five rebounds.  Katie Durbin added 10 points, four rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.  5-5 So. Paige Medley recorded six points and four rebounds.  Mattie Clanton dished out six assists.

 

Audrey Biggs led Boyd County with 17 points including seven of seven free throws, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Emilee Neese added 15 points on five three point baskets.  Jasmine Jordan recorded 11 points including seven of eight free throws, 11 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Taylor Bartrum and Isabella Opell each pulled down eight rebounds.

Bullitt East led 21-19 at halftime and pulled away in the second half for a 67-50 over Bethlehem.  The score was tied three times and there were two lead changes in the game.  Bullitt East shot 48.2% from the field including three of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 12 Bethlehem turnovers.  Bethlehem shot 38% from the field including three of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Banshees connected on nine of 13 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored two points off 12 Bullitt East turnovers.

 

Gracie Merkle led Bullitt East with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Lilly Reid added 21 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals.  Emma Egan recorded nine points, six rebounds, and four assists.  5-9 So. Jada Hughes chipped in with nine points and four rebounds.

The score was tied 29-29 at halftime but Southwestern buoyed by their three point attack outscored McCracken County 18-9 in the third quarter on their way to a 67-56 victory.  There were eight ties and 11 lead changes in this game.  Southwestern shot 51.2% from the field including 10 of 20 from the three point line.  The Warriors connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored six points off 11 McCracken County turnovers.  McCracken County shot 32.8% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Mustangs connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 18 Southwestern turnovers.

 

Payton Acey led a balanced Southwestern scoring attack with 16 points including two three point baskets, four of five free throws, eight rebounds, two assists, four blocked shots, and three steals.  Makayla Noritis added 15 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Kinsley Molden recorded 15 points including three three point baskets.  Ayden Smiddy chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, and six assists.  Kaylee Young added seven points, six rebounds, and six assists.

 

Destiny Thomas led McCracken County with 22 points including eight of nine free throws, nine rebounds, three assists, and five steals.  Caroline Sivills added 11 points and seven rebounds.  Claire Johnson recorded 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Mikee Buchanan chipped in with seven points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

5-7 Fr. Cameryn Ridderikhoff nailed a three point “dagger-in-the-heart” with less tan a minute on the clock to ensure Franklin County’s 46-43 victory over Henderson County.  This game was a “chess match” between two of the best veteran coaches in the game Joey Thacker (Franklin County) and Jeff Haile (Henderson County) and it proved to be a nail-biter with seven ties and 14 lead changes.  Each team’s longest lead was five points with Franklin County leading for 14:03, Henderson County 12:02, and tied for 5:55, in other words, a close, competitive game.  Franklin County shot 37.5% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Henderson County turnovers.  Henderson County shot 35.45 from the field including seven of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Colonels connected on two of two free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 Franklin County turnovers.

 

Patience Laster led Franklin County with 12 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.  Jazmin Chambers added 10 points including two three point baskets.  Jhaven Meade recorded seven points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

5-8 Jr. Mallorie Veal led Henderson County with 13 points including three three point baskets.  Graci Risley added 12 points on four three point baskets.  Jarie Thomas recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Kaytlan Kemp chipped in with two points, two rebounds, eight assists, and four steals.

Cooper pulled away in the second half to defeat Pikeville by the score of 57-37.  Cooper shot 38.1% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Jaguars connected on 22 of 26 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 17 Pikeville turnovers.  Pikeville shot 48.5% from the field including three of eight from beyond the arc.  The Lady Panthers connected on two of two free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored seven points off seven Cooper turnovers.

 

Logan Luebbers-Palmer led Cooper with 22 points including two three point baskets, eight of eight free throws and four rebounds.  Whitney Lind added 17 points including seven of eight free throws, three rebounds, and three assists.  Liz Freihofer recorded nine rebounds, five rebounds, four assists, and five steals.  Kay Freihofer pulled down eight rebounds.

Franklin County (28-8) vs. Southwestern (27-7) (Quarterfinal)

 

Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 6-0 Jr. Jazmin Chambers, 5-10 Sr. Patience Laster, 6-4 Jr. Jhaven Meade, 5-5 Sr. Nevaeh Carter, and 5-7 Fr. The score was tied 35-35 after three quarters but Southwestern pulled away in the final quarter for a 47-40 victory over Franklin County.  The win may have been costly for the Warriors as Makayla Noritis who had been having an excellent tournament went down with an ankle sprain in the closing seconds of the game.  The score was tied nine times and there were nine lead changes in this game.  Southwestern shot 35.3% from the field including six of 23 from the three point line.  The Warriors connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 17 points on 10 Franklin County turnovers.  Franklin County shot 29.7% from the field including two of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Flyers connected on 16 of 21 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored two points off four Southwestern  turnovers.

 

Makayla Noritis led Southwestern with 17 points and eight rebounds.  Kinsley Molden added 14 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, and three assists.  Payton Acey recorded eight points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Bullitt East outscored Meade County 20-9 in the first quarter on their way to a 62-47 victor over the Lady Waves.  Bullitt East shot 60% from the field including two of four from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on 12 of 33 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored seven points off nine Meade County turnovers.  Meade County shot 34% from the field including seven of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Waves connected on eight of 10 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored four points off eight Bullitt East turnovers.  Bullitt East held a 44-6 advantage in points in the paint.

Sacred Heart Academy trailed 24-22 at halftime but pulled away in the second half for a 59-40 victory over George Rogers Clark.  Sacred Hear Academy shot 46.7% from the field including two of eight from the three point line.  The Valkyries connected on 15 of 20 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 21 George Rogers Clark turnovers.  George Rogers Clark shot 38.2% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored seven points off nine Sacred Heart turnovers.

 

Triniti Ralston led Sacred Heart Academy with 22 points including six of seven free throws, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  ZaKiyah Johnson added 18 points including two three point baskets, six of six free throws, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Bullitt East coach Chris Stallings started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Anna Rogers, 5-8 Jr. Logan Ortega, 6-6 Sr. Gracie Merkle, 5-8 Jr. Lilly Reid, and 5-8 Sr. Emma Egan.  Southwestern coach Junior Molden countered with 5-11 Sr.Makayla Noritis, 5-10 Sr. Kaylee Young, 6-1 So. Payton Acey, 5-6 Fr. Kinsley Molden, and 5-7 Jr. Ayden Smiddy. (Unfortunately for Southwestern Makayla Noritis attempted to play but was limited to only 2 minutes because of the ankle injury sustained in the last game and the Warriors were without a key performer for this game).

 

Bullitt East utilized a dominating performance (27 points, 21 rebounds, 5 blocks) by Gracie Merkle to defeat Southwestern by the score of 66-42.  Bullitt East shot 45.8% from the field including one of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on 21 of 31 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 15 Southwestern turnovers.  Southwestern shot 26.3% from the field including six of 31 from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 12 Bullitt East turnovers.  Bullitt East held a 38-8 advantage in points scored in the paint.

 

Gracie Merkle led Bullitt East with 27 points, 21 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Emma Egan added 13 points including four of five free throws, and eight rebounds.  5-9 So. Jada Hughes recorded eight points including four of four free throws, two assists, and two blocked shots.

Reagan Bender led Sacred Heart Academy with 16 points including five of six free throws and two rebounds.  Josie Gilvin added 15 points including seven of eight free throws, nine rebounds, six assists, two blocked shots, and four steals.  ZaKiyah Johnson recorded 12 points including seven of eight free throws, three rebounds, and two assists.  6-3 So. Angelina Pelalayo chipped in with 10 points, two rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.  Triniti Ralston recorded nine points and two assists.

Devin Royal led Pickerington Central with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  6-1 Jr. Markell Johnson added 13 points including two  three point baskets, five rebounds, and two steals.  6-2 Jr. Rasheem Biles recorded 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Alex Styles chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Cincinnati Taft defeated Ottawa-Glandorf by the score of 48-45.  Ottawa-Glandorf had a last chance for the tie but Colin White’s three point attempt at the buzzer fell short.  There were eight ties and six lead chances in this game.  Cincinnati Taft shot 46.7% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line.  The Senators connected on two of three free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 13 Ottawa-Glandorf turnovers.  Ottawa-Glandorf shot 35.6% from the field including three of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Titans connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored six points off 10 Cincinnati Taft turnovers.

Jaiden Cox-Holloway led Richmond Heights with 18 points including four three point baskets, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Detric Hearst Jr. who started in place of the injured Josiah Harris added 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  De’erick  Barber recorded nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  London Maiden chipped in with six points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Dorian Jones added seven points, five rebounds, and six steals.

There were five ties and eight lead changes in the game.  Jackson South Side shot 53.3% from the field including one of one from the three point line.  The Hawks connected on 18 of 26 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 16 Knoxville Fulton turnovers.  Knoxville Fulton shot 36.4% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Falcons connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 22 Jackson South Side turnovers.

Bearden defeated Lebanon by the score of 62-44.  Bearden shot 39.1% from the field including eight of 20 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 18 of 26 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 28 points off 21 Lebanon turnovers.  Lebanon shot 41.5% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on eight of 13 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored eight points off 10 Bearden turnovers.

 

Elijah Bredwood led Bearden with 26 points including two three point baskets, 14 of 15 free throws, seven rebounds, four assists, and five steals.  Hayden Moseley added 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals  Walker Kyle added nine points on three three point baskets and five rebounds.  6-0 Jr. Nelson Karnowski recorded seven points and two steals.

 

Jarred Hall led Lebanon with 16 points including five of six free throws, and 13 rebounds.  Yarin Alexander added nine points.  Rolando Dowell recorded nine points and four rebounds.

East Robertson coach Kurt Caton started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Jordan Barnard, 6-3 Jr. Zechariah Prince, 6-4 So. Elijah Groves, 6-2 Sr. Taylor Groves, and 6-3 Jr. Mason Eidson.  Hampton coach Ned Smith countered with 6-3 Sr. Michael Harrison, 6-1 Sr. Morgan Lyons, 6-4 Sr. Conor Burleson, 5-9 Sr. Isaiah McCoury, and 6-0 Jr. Cadon Buckles.

 

East Robertson defeated Hampton 58-56 in overtime.  East Robertson’s Taylor Groves hit a three point basket to send his team to overtime and hit a layup in overtime to give the Indians a lead they never relinquished.  The score was tied two times and there were nine lead changes in the game.  East Robertson shot 50% from the field including nine of 20 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on five of 11 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 14 Hampton turnovers.  Hampton shot 44.9% from the field including five of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 18 East Robertson turnovers.

 

Taylor Groves led East Robertson with 27 points including five three point baskets, six rebounds, two assists, and four blocked shots.  Jordan Barnard added 10 points including two three point baskets and three rebounds.  Elijah Groves recorded eight points, nine rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Mason Eidson chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.

Peabody pulled away in the final quarter to defeat Clay County by the score of 51-43.  The score was tied 11 times and there were seven lead changes in this game.  Peabody shot 38.9% from the field including one of 15 from the three point line.  The Golden Tide connected on eight of 13 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored six points off nine Clay County turnovers.  Clay County shot 34% from the field including zero of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 11 of 15 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored two points off four Peabody turnovers.

 

Derek Kee led Peabody with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  6-2 Sr. Jason Hunt added 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists.  Demarkus Kee recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Malik Ganaway chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

Milan coach Jason James started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Easton Yates, 5-11 Sr. Jodarius Robinson, 6-3 Sr. Kam Tharpe, 5-9 Jr. Adam Arnold, and 5-7 So. Gabe Scott.  East Nashville coach Avery Patton countered with 6-2 Jr. Jacolby Summers, 6-1 Sr. Jarrod Taylor, 6-5 Jr. Michael Armstrong, 5-10 Jr. Jordan Crawford, and 6-1 Jr. Jaylen Jones.

 

East Nashville raced out to a 20-7 first quarter lead on their way to a 72-55 victory.  East Nashville shot 54.3% from the field including five of nine from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 17 of 18 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 14 Milan turnovers.  Milan shot 41.3% from the field including five of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 10 points off eight East Nashville turnovers.

 

Jaylen Jones added East Nashville with 20 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.  Jarrod Taylor added 16 points including four of four free throws, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  Jacolby Summers recorded 11 points including nine of 10 free throws, four rebounds, and three steals.  Michael Armstrong chipped in with 10 points.  5-9 Sr. Willie Wilson added nine points on three three point baskets, two assists, and two steals.  6-5 Sr. Cullen Cleaves recorded six points, four rebounds, and five blocked shots.

Christian Mitchell.  Greeneville coach Brad Woolsey countered with 6-3 Dr. Reid Satterfield, 6-2 Jr. Adjatay Dabbs, 6-5 Sr. Terry Grove, 5-8 Sr. Jackson Tillery, and 6-1 Sr. Jakobi Gillespie.

 

Greeneville defeated Jackson South Side by the score of 77-48.  Greeneville shot 50.9% from the field including 14 of 34 from the three point line.  The Greene Devils connected on five of 14 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 20 Jackson South Side turnovers.  Jackson South Side shot 37.8% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc  The Hawks connected on 11 of 16 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored eight points off 14 Greeneville turnovers.

 

Jakobi Gillespie led Greeneville with 25 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.  Reid Satterfield added 21 points including six three point baskets and three assists.  Terry Grove recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Adjatay Dabbs chipped in with six points and five assists.

Bearden coach Jeremy Parrott started the following lineup: 6-5 Sr. Walker Kyle, 6-3 Sr. Hayden Moseley, 6-6 Sr. Darian Bailey, 6-1 Sr. Elijah Bredwood, and 6-2 Jr. Jake Poole.  .  Dobyns Bennett coach Chris Poore countered with 6-4 Sr. Malachi Hale, 6-0 Sr. Carter Metz, 6-4 Sr. Jack Browder, 5-8 Jr. Jonavan Gillespie, and 5-9 Jr. Brady Stump.

 

Dobyns Bennett defeated Bearden 69-60 in overtime.  There were four ties in this game.  Dobyns Bennett led 39-24 after three quarters but Bearden outscored the Indians 28-13 in the fourth quarter to knot the score at the end of regulation.  Bearden lost three players (Elijah Bredwood, Darian Bailey, and Hayden Moseley) via the foul route.  Dobyns Bennett shot 41.3% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 25 of 34 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 13 Bearden turnovers.  Bearden shot 33.9% from the field including five of 26 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Dobyns Bennett turnovers.

 

Jack Browder led Dobyns Bennett with 30 points including two three point baskets, 10 of 11 free throws, 13 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Malachi Hale added 16 points including seven of 12 free throws, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Carter Metz recorded seven points and four rebounds.  Brady Stump chipped in with seven points, two rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Jonavan Gillespie added six points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
