The teams combined for over 1,000 yards of total offense but Johnson Central’s machine like precision and knack for big plays combined with Madisonville’s five turnovers proved to be too much and Johnson Central captured a 52-14 victory.  Johnson Central recorded 23 first downs and 561 yards of total offense.  The Golden Eagles were penalized six times for50 yards and lost two fumbles.  Madisonville-North Hopkins recorded 21 first downs and 443 yards of total offense. The Maroons were penalized eight times for 88 yards, lost a fumble, and had four passes intercepted.

Devin Johnson led Johnson Central’s ground game with 280 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.  Johnson also ran for four two point conversion plays.  Dillon Preston carried the ball 11 times for 114 yards and one touchdown.  Cody Rice recorded 73 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.  Mason Lawson chipped in with 49 yards on five carries.  Riley Preece also ran for a touchdown.  Riley Preece completed one of two passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.  Seth Dalton caught a 39 yard touchdown reception.  Dillon Preston led the defense with eight solo and five tackles with 2.5 sacks.  Mason Lemaster added three solo and nine assisted tackles.  Braden Castle recorded two solo and nine assisted tackles.  Devin Johnson added two solo and eight assisted tackles and recovered a fumble.  Mason Lawson also intercepted two passes and Hunter McCloud chipped in with one solo and nine assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.

Jeriah Hightower led Madisonville-North Hopkin’s ground game with 184 yards on 31 carries.  Hayden Reynolds completed 17 of 33 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions.  Marquise Parker caught eight passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns.  Dejuan Johnson added four receptions for 69 yards.

Paintsville rolled up 489 yards on the ground averaging almost 10 yards per carry in a 44-20 victory over Kentucky Country Day.  They led 18-14 at halftime but outscored KCD 26-6 after the intermission. The Tigers offensive line dominated tonight and Karsten Poe delivered some crushing blocks to spring runners for touchdown runs from his wide receiver slot.  Paintsville recorded 11 first downs and 489 yards of total offense all on the ground.  The Tigers were penalized five times for 50 yards.  Kentucky Country Day recorded eight first downs and 300 yards of total offense.  They were penalized six times for 40 yards.  The only downside to tonight’s victory was the loss of offensive lineman Grant Ray who went down with a severe ankle injury and was transported to the hospital.

John Phelps led Paintsville’s ground game with 238 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. Jake Hyden carried the ball 13 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns.  Zach Thompson recorded 75 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.  Jake Hyden was zero of six through the air. 

Dorian Heard led Kentucky Country Day’s ground game with 174 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.  Drew Russell carried the ball once for 61 yards and a touchdown.  Luke Russo completed five of nine passes for 36 yards.  Nick Smith caught three passes for 14 yards.  Dorian Heard added two receptions for 12 yards.

Belfry vs. DeSales High School

This was a titanic match-up between two extremely talented teams and it took two overtimes to settle the issue.  The score was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation.  Belfry went on offense first in overtime and scored on a seven yard run by Peyton Hensley and Grayson Cook scored on the conversion kick to make the score 7-0.  DeSales responded in a hurry as James Johnson went 10 yards on the first play from scrimmage and Blake Givens kicked the extra point to knot the score at 7-7.  DeSales went on offense first in the second overtime and scored on a one yard run by Demarcus Avery and a kick by Blake Givens to make the score 14-7.  Belfry then got the ball and scored on a fourth-and-one from the one as Peyton Hensley broke the plane to pull Belfry within 1; 14-13.  DeSales called a timeout and Belfry followed suit with a timeout and made the gutsy call to go for two and the win.  The strategy worked as Isaac Dixon took the pitch and sprinted into the end zone for the 15-14 victory.  DeSales had their chances today but misfired on a fourth down pass from the Belfry 29 yard line and had two drives ended by an interception and a fumble.  When all is said and done this was an intense struggle between two excellent, well coached teams that fought to the end and Belfry had one final play for the victory and advances to the championship game.

Belfry recorded seven first downs and 208 yards of total offense, all on the ground.  The Pirates were penalized eight times for 125 yards and lost two fumbles.  DeSales recorded 13 first downs and 244 yards of total offense.  The Colts were penalized eight times for 101 yards, lost a fumble, and had two passes intercepted.

Peyton Hensley led Belfry’s ground game with 107 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.  Isaac Dixon added 88 yards on eight carries.  Ben Bentley carried the ball seven times for 18 yards.  Brett Coleman was zero for two through the air.  Grayson Cook punted six times for a 42.5 average with a long punt of 51 with one inside the 20 yard line.  Isaac Dixon returned three punts for 47 yards with a long return of 17 yards.  Ben Bentley returned one kickoff for 27 yards.  Ben Bentley and Isaiah Birchfie each intercepted a pass and Brett Coleman recovered a fumble.

James Johnson led the DeSales’ ground game with 133 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.  Demarcus Avery added 49 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  Demarcus Avery completed seven of 17 passes for 61 yards with two interceptions.  Jayden Scroggin was zero for one in passes attempted.  Antione Johnson caught four passes for 15 yards.  Demetri Scott added three receptions for 46 yards.  Antione Johnson returned three punts for 56 yards with a long return of 31 yards.  James Johnson returned one kickoff for 18 yards.  Blake Givens punted five times for a 33.2 yard average with a long punt of 47 yards with two punts inside the 20 yard line.  Alex Gates and Dejuan Watkins each recovered a fumble.

Male improves to 14-0 and advances to the Class 6A Championship game with a 48-18 victory over Tates Creek.  Male recorded 24 first downs and 478 yards of total offense.  They were penalized four times for 50 yards and had two passes intercepted.  Tates Creek recorded 15 first downs and 298 yards of total offense.  The Commodores were penalized five times for 35 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

Jaylin Bross led Male’s ground game with 193 yards and five touchdowns on 31 carries.  Thomas Price added 43 yards on eight carries.  Elijah Parish completed 10 of 19 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown with one interception.  Nic Schutte completed two of three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Izayah Cummings caught five passes for 93 yards and one touchdown.  Briceson Rodgers added four receptions for 94 yards.  VJ Anthony recorded three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.  VJ Anthony returned one punt for 18 yards.  Chris Wilson returned one kickoff for 46 yards.  Joe Kuerzi led the defense with four solo and two assisted tackles.  Jaxson Allgeier added four solo and one assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a one yard loss.  Judah Ford recorded four solo and one assisted tackles.  Romel Schefield added three solo and one assisted tackles and intercepted a pass he returned eight yards.  Selah Brown recorded two solo and one assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a 10 yard loss.  Jayshaun Monroe recovered a fumble.

Elliot Bryant led Tates Creek’s ground game with five yards on one carry.  Luke Duby completed 29 of 54 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.  Cion Townsend caught 11 passes for 64 yards and one touchdown.  Elliot Bryant added seven receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown.  Miles Thomas recorded five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.  Marcus Bosley caught five passes for 70 yards.  Elliot Bryant returned one kickoff for 33 yards.  Cion Townsend returned three kickoffs for 50 yards with a long return of 20 yards.  Matthew Underwood led the defense with seven solo and three assisted tackles.  Marcus Bosley added five solo and two assisted tackles.  Bonnell Herron recorded five solo and one assisted tackles.  JT Acosta chipped in with five solo tackles and intercepted a pass.  Isaiah McFarland recorded three solo and four assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 15 yards.  Kobe Middleton intercepted a pass.

Covington Catholic rolls into the championship game with a 28-0 victory over Bowling Green.  Covington Catholic dominated on both sides of the ball and improves to 14-0 for the season.  Bowling Green ends their season at 9-4.  Covington Catholic recorded 22 first downs and 400 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized four times for 17 yards, lost a fumble, and intercepted a pass.  Bowling Green recorded eight first downs and 179 yards of total offense.  The Purples were penalized five times for 44 yards.

Daniel Felix led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 97 yards on 20 carries.  Michael Boydston carried the ball five times for 35 yards.  Owen Nally added nine yards and a touchdown on three carries.  Caleb Jacob completed 16 of 24 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.  Michael Mayer caught five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown.  Ethan Reardon added four receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown.  Andy Molique caught three passes for 39 yards and one touchdown.  Michael Boydston also caught three passes for 35 yards.  Michael Boydston returned one kickoff for 36 yards.  Trey Gronette kicked off five times for a 59-6 average with three touchbacks.  John Lawrie punted three times for a 39.3 average with a long punt of 43 yards with one punt inside the 20 yard line.  Daniel Felix led the defense with seven solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling seven yards.  Michael Mayer added six solo and two assisted tackles.  Andy Molique recorded six solo tackles.

Conner Cooper led Bowling Green’s ground game with 28 yards on 10 carries.  Javeius Bunton carried the ball eight times for 17 yards.  Max Payne completed six of 12 passes for 85 yards.  Conner Cooper completed seven of 10 passes for 36 yards.  Jordan Dingle caught four passes for 33 yards.  Scotty Brown added four receptions for 29 yards.  Elvin FoFanah caught two passes for 28 yards.  Eli Burwash punted seven times for a 41.0 average with a long punt of 59 yards with three punts inside the 20 yard line.  Elvin FoFanah returned two kickoffs for 61 yards with a long return of 38 yards.  Eli Burwash led the defense with five solo tackles and recovered a fumble.  Reece Jones added five solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a one yard loss.  Evan Spader , Keaton Oldham, and Kendall Perason each recorded four solo tackles.  DeVito Tisdale added three solo and two assisted tackles and Terry Alexander intercepted a pass.

Alice Lloyd coach John Mills started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Jayla Spurlock, 5-9 Jr. Ali May, 6-0 Jr. Bailee Brainard, 5-8 Jr. Haley Hall, and 5-8 Sr. Katie Moore.  Eastern Kentucky University coach Samantha Williams countered with 5-11 Jr. Bria Bass, 5-8 Sr. Shay Solomon, 6-2 Jr. I’Liyah Green, 6-6 Jr. Teri Goodlett, and 5-7 Jr. De’Ayra Davis.

Eastern Kentucky University utilized their depth to outscore Alice Lloyd 67-33 on bench points in a 102-65 victory.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 52.9% from the field including six of 15 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 22 of 27 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 38 points off 23 Alice Lloyd turnovers.  Alice Lloyd shot 34.8% from the field including six of 32 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on 11 of 16 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 EKU turnovers.

6-1 Fr. Anysa Jordan led EKU with 16 points and three rebounds.  Jordan was eight of 11 from the field.  5-10 Fr. Maleaha Bell added 11 points and eight rebounds.  Bria Bass recorded 11 points and five rebounds.  6-1 Jr. Samari Mowbray also scored 11 points including two three point baskets.  5-6 Jr. Qay Stanton added nine points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  6-3 Fr. Emma Hacker recorded nine points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots.  5-9 Fr. Jada Higgins chipped in with nine points, four assists, and three steals. 

5-1 Fr. Jasmine Ealy led Alice Lloyd with 13 points including two three point baskets.  Bailee Brainard added 10 points and eight rebounds.  Katie Moore recorded nine points and four rebounds.  Haley Hall chipped in with eight points and four assists.  6-1 Fr.
