Eastern Kentucky University coach AW Hamilton started the following lineup: 6-8 S. Tre King, 6-3 Sr. Ty Taylor, 6-8 Jr. Darius Hicks, 6-0 Jr. Russhard Cruickshank, and 6-2 So. Jomaru Brown. Cleveland State University coach Dennis Gates countered with 6-4 Sr. Tre Gomillion, 6-3 Jr. Franklyn Penn, 6-8 Jr. Algevon Eichelberger, 6-0 Sr. Kasheem Thomas, and 6-0 Fr. Jeremy Sanchez.
Eastern Kentucky University led 26-18 late in the first half but Cleveland State finished the half on a 12-3 run to take a 30-29 halftime lead. The Vikings pulled away in the second half to earn a 65-51 victory over Eastern Kentucky. Cleveland State dominated inside with a 32-12 advantage on points in the paint. Cleveland State shot 39.6% from the field including three of 15 from the three point line. The Vikings connected on 24 of 31 free throws, pulled down 49 rebounds, scored 15 points off 14 EKU turnovers and held a 29-8 advantage on bench points.
Eastern Kentucky shot 25.5% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 22 of 31 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 21 Cleveland State turnovers.
Tre Gomillion led Cleveland State with 15 points including 11 of 12 free throws and 16 rebounds. 6-3 Jr. Craig Beaudion added 14 points including seven of eight free throws and five rebounds. Algevon Eichelberger recorded nine points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots. 6-9 So Deante Johnson chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds. 6-1 Fr. Hugo Ferreira added seven points.
Jomaru Brown led Eastern Kentucky with 15 points including nine of 13 free throws and four steals. Ty Taylor added 11 points. Darius Hicks recorded six points and 15 rebounds.
