Conner coach Matthew Otte started the following lineup: 6-2 Sr. Spencer Couzins, 6-0 Sr. Riley Osterbur, 6-6 Sr. Cole Skiles, 5-11 So. Landen Hamilton, and 5-11 So. Ayden Lohr.  Covington Catholic coach Scott Ruthsatz countered with 6-6 So, Chandler Starks, 6-5 Jr. Colin McHale, 6-7 Jr. Mitchell Rylee, 5-9 So. Evan Ipsaro, and 6-4 Sr. Donovan Stocks.

 

Covington Catholic defeated Conner by the score of 75-55.  Covington Catholic shot 56.9% from the field including seven of 17 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and committed 12 turnovers.  Conner shot 47.5% from the field including eight of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Cougars connected on nine of 11 free throws, pulled down 10 rebounds, and committed 18 turnovers.

 

Mitchell Rylee led Covington Catholic with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Evan Ipsaro added 17 points including two three point baskets, and three assists.  Chandler Starks recorded 11 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists.  Colin McHale chipped in with 11 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, and two assists.  Donovan Stocks added eight points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  6-1 So. Kascyl McGillis recorded eight points including two three point baskets.

 

Spencer Couzins led Conner with 15 points including two three point baskets.  Ayden Lohr added 14 points including four three point baskets.  Riley Osterbur recorded  eight points including two three point baskets.

North Laurel improved their record to 10-0 with a 91-73 victory over Madison Central.  North Laurel shot 55.4% from the field including nine of 19 from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on 20 of 24 free throws, and pulled down 30 rebounds.

 

6-3 So. Reed Sheppard led North Laurel with 30 points including four three point baskets, nine rebounds, and eight assists.  6-4 So. Ryan Davidson added 26 points and seven rebounds.  Davidson was eight of 11 from the field including one of one from beyond the arc, and nine of 10 free throws.  6-0 So. Brody Brock recorded 12 points.

 

6-2 Sr. Braeden Ray led Madison Central with 24 points.  6-4 So. Jaylen Davis added 13 points and five rebounds.  6-0 Sr. Taishon Chenault recorded 11 points and four rebounds.  6-4 So. Kole Brown chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Bethlehem trailed Mercy Academy70-69 in the closing seconds but Bethlehem’s 5-5 Fr. Carlie Thurmond stole the ball scored the layup, was fouled, and added the free throw to give the Banshees a 72-70 lead.  Mercy Academy had one last chance but their shot was blocked by 6-2 So. Xaviara Smalley to ensure the victory in a hard fought contest.  Bethlehem shot 39.4% from the field including eight of 22 from the three point line.  The Banshees connected on 12 of 17 free throws, and pulled down 34 rebounds.  Mercy Academy shot 44.4% from the field including eight of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Jaguars connected on 14 of 20 free throws and pulled down 33 rebounds.

 

5-10 Sr. Ella Thompson led Bethlehem with 23 points including 10 of 10 free throws and 11 rebounds.  5-7 Jr. Kasey Spaulding added 15 points including three three point baskets.  5-5 Fr. Carlie Thurmond recorded 14 points and 5-5 Sr. Amelia Hodges added 12 points including three three point baskets.  6-2 So. Xaviara Smalley chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.

 

5-7 So. Pace Rickard added Mercy Academy with 13 points and nine rebounds.  6-2 Fr. Mariah Knight added 13 points including six of eight free throws and eight rebounds.  6-1 So. Emma Barnett recorded 11 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.  6-0 So. Amy Thompson chipped in with eight points and 5-6 So. Lexi Cash recorded seven points.

Kudos to Ashland Coach Jason Mays and Bowling Green Coach DJ Sherrill for putting together this game in difficult times.  Coach Mays agreed to make the trip because Bowling Green had already agreed to host Somerset the night before.  Ashland Blazer came out on fire connecting on five first quarter three point baskets and held a 27-17 lead early in the second quarter and still led 30-24 before Bowling Green finished the quarter on a 20-4 run to lead at halftime by the score of 44-34.  It was all Bowling Green in the second half as they pulled away for an 83-57 victory over Ashland Blazer.  Bowling Green shot 50.9% from the field including six of 11 from the three point line.  The Purples connected on 23 of 26 free throws and pulled down 32 rebounds.

 

5-11 Jr. Turner Buttry led Bowling Green with 29 points including 16 of 16 free throws.  6-4 Sr. Isaiah Mason added 18 points and seven rebounds.  5-9 Jr. Willie Wilson recorded 14 points including three three point baskets.  6-2 Sr. Jaxon Flanary chipped in with nine points and 11 rebounds.  6-1 Sr. Conner Cooper also scored nine points.

 

6-2 Jr. Cole Villers led Ashland with 15 points including three three point baskets.  6-1 Jr. Ethan Sellars added 12 points including two three point baskets.  5-11 So. Colin Porter recorded 11 points.  6-2 Fr. Zander Carter chipped in with six points on two three point baskets.  6-1 So. Asher Atkins also recorded six points.

Montgomery County defeated Trinity 88-81 in two overtimes.  Trinity got off to a fast stop and led Montgomery County 28-12 in the second quarter.  Montgomery County rallied and 6-0 Jr. Hagan Harrison and 6-6 Sr. Ricky Lovette were big down the stretch to key the Indians’ victory.  Montgomery County shot 53.7% from the field including nine of 20 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 21 of 24 free throws and pulled down 29 rebounds.  Trinity shot 54.8% from the field including eight of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Shamrocks connected on five of seven free throws and pulled down 33 rebounds.

 

6-0 Jr. Hagan Harrison led Montgomery County with 28 points including four three point baskets, six of six free throws, and pulled down six rebounds.  6-6 Sr. Ricky Lovette added 21 points including two three point basktes, five of five free throws, and pulled down 11 rebounds.  6-3 Sr. Eric Morgan recorded 14 points including five of seven free throws.  6-0 Sr. JT Woosley chipped in with 13 points.

 

6-1 Jr. Miles Franklin led a balanced Trinity scoring attack with 18 points including four three point baskets.  6-4 Sr. Will McMillan added 18 points and nine rebounds.  6-2 Sr. Ethan Hodge recorded 18 points including two three point baskets.  6-2 Sr. Zach Stahlman added 16 points and 13 rebounds.  6-2 So. Cam McClain chipped in with seven points,

This game normally generates a lot of attention between two traditional rivals and basketball powers.  George Rogers Clark entered this game without the services of their leading scorer Jerone Morton out with a wrist injury and Mason County was without the services of two guards Mason Butler and Braylon Hamilton.  Mason County was further saddled tonight with foul woes to AP Perry and Nate Mitchell.  George Rogers Clark led 35-24 at the half and broke the game open in the third quarter with a 25-14 advantage on their way to an 83-55 victory.

 

George Rogers Clark shot 52.4% from the field including two of 11 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and committed 11 turnovers.  Mason County shot 39.6% from the field including six of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Royals connected on 11 of 15 free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and committed 17 turnovers.

 

6-4 Sr. Jared Wellman led GRC with 23 points and 11 rebounds.  5-9 Jr. Aden Slone added 17 points and dished out five assists.  6-6 Jr. Trent Edwards and 6-3 Sr. Reed Johnson each scored 10 points.  6-2 Jr. Sammy Hernandez chipped in with eight points.

 

6-2 So. Terrell Henry led Mason County with 21 points. 5-11 Jr. Nate Mitchell added 15 points including two three point baskets.  5-9 Sr. Anwar Perry chipped in with eight points.

This was billed as a battle between two of the most intriguing teams in the state this year.  Jason Clark’s Bethlehem Banshees captured the All “A” Classic Championship this year and is considered one of the top contenders in the state to win the Sweet 16 this year.  They are led by two talented seniors 5-10 Sr. Ella Thompson and 5-5 Sr. Amelia Hodges and a very talented supporting cast.  Lonnie Rowe’s Shelby Valley Lady Kats enter the game led by their dynamic Junior 1-2 punch 5-6 Jr. Cassidy Rowe and 5-10 Jr. Alyssa Elswick.

 

Bethlehem dominated a stretch in the second quarter and actually led 45-28 early in the third quarter but there was no quit in Shelby Valley as they battled back and trailed 62-60 with 5:26 left in the game.  However Bethlehem got two key baskets from Ella Thompson and hit their late free throws to earn a 74-66 victory.  Bethlehem shot 43.3% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Banshees connected on 17 of 19 free throws and pulled down 38 rebounds.  Shelby Valley shot 50.9% from the field including nine of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Kats connected on three of eight free throws amd pulled down 18 rebounds.

 

5-10 Sr. Ella Thompson led Bethlehem with 20 points including four of four free throws and pulled down 13 rebounds.  5-5 Sr. Amelia Hodges added 19 points including three three point baskets.  6-0 So. Emma Filiatreau recorded 14 points and nine rebounds.  5-5 Fr. Carlie Thurmond chipped in with 14 points including two three point baskets.  6-2 So. Xaviaria Smalley added six points and six rebounds.

 

5-6 Jr. Cassidy Rowe led Shelby Valley with 23 points including five three point baskets and dished out 10 assists.  5-10 Jr. Alyssa Elswick added 20 points and 12 rebounds.  5-6 Sr. Laci Johnson recorded nine points and four rebounds.  5-6 Fr. Jazzy Meade chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets.  5-7 Jr. Kyra Looney added six points on two three point baskets.

Triniti Ralston, and 5-6 Sr. Maggie Montano.  Walton-Verona coach Mark Clinkenbeard countered with 5-9 Sr. Paige Heuser, 5-8 Jr. Kylie Lay, 5-8 Jr. Maggie Buerger, 5-2 Sr. Haylee Neeley, and 5-7 Jr. Audrey Carrico.

 

Sacred Heart Academy trailed 30-26 at halftime, rallied to lead 45-41 after three quarters and pulled away late to earn a 65-52 victory over the Beracats.  Sacred Heart shot 42.2% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  The Valkyries connected on 24 of 29 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 30 points off 17 Walton-Verona turnovers.  Walton-Verona shot 48.5% from the field including eight of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Bearcats connected on 12 of 15 free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 10 Sacred Heart turnovers.

 

5-11 Fr. Angelina Pelayo led Sacred Heart Academy with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Pelayo was 10 of 15 from the field and nine of 12 free throws.  Josie Gilvin added 14 points including eight of eight free throws, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. 

 

Audrey Carrico led Walton-Verona with 13 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, and four assists.  Haylee Neeley added 12 points including six of six free throws, three rebounds, and three assists.  Kylie Lay recorded 10 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, and two assists.  Maggie Buerger chipped in with nine points including two three point baskets.

Eli Gover, and 6-0 Sr. Micah Anders.  North Laurel coach Nate Valentine countered with 6-3 So. Reed Sheppard, 6-4 So. Ryan Davidson, 6-2 Jr. Caden Harris, 5-11 Jr. Clay Sizemore, and 6-0 So. Brody Brock.

 

North Laurel jumped out to a 54-37 lead in the third quarter and withstood a late South Laurel rally to earn an 84-77 victory in the 74th meeting between these two schools.  North Laurel shot 61.5% from the field including three of nine from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on 17 of 20 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 10 South Laurel turnovers.  South Laurel shot 53.2% from the field including eight of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on three of six free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 North Laurel turnovers.

 

Reed Sheppard led North Laurel with 50 points including 13 of 15 free throws, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, and four steals.  Ryan Davidson added 29 points and seven rebounds.  Davidson was 12 of 14 from the field including one for one beyond the arc, and four of five free throws.

 

Parker Payne led South Laurel with 19 points, three rebounds, and five assists.  6-3 Jr. Brayden Reed added 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists.  Micah Anders recorded 13 points including three three point baskets, three rebounds, and two assists.  Eli Gover chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets and three rebounds.

Chloe Freeman.  Frederick Douglass coach DJ Moberly countered with 5-9 Jr. Allison Wallace, 5-5 Sr. Kourtesy Lee, 6-0 Fr. Ayanna-Sarai Darlington, 5-50 Sr. Shania Mayes, and 5-5 Sr. Kasia Parks.

 

Madison Central defeated Frederick Douglass by the score of 58-48.  Madison Central built up a comfortable 12 point lead in the second quarter but Frederick Douglass rallied and the score was tied 42-42 in the final quarter.  Madison Central rallied and with some timely free throw shooting ( 8 of 10 in the final quarter) closed out the game with a 16-6 run.  Madison Central shot 38.2% from the field including one of five from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 28 Frederick Douglass turnovers.  Frederick Douglass shot 33.3% from the field including one of eight from beyond the arc.  The Broncos connected on 13 of 25 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 23 Madison Central turnovers.

 

Bailey Hensley led Madison Central with 23 points, six rebounds, and five steals.  Eve Carter added 11 points including five of six free throws, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  5-5 Fr. Eden Carter recorded 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals.  5-4 8th Grade Brittany Campbell added nine points including five of six free throws, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
