Male vs. Trinity

Trinity High School
Louisville, KY
September 9, 2016

© 2016 by Ron Harrison

This game had it all, as the winner of the last two 6A championships locked horns tonight to settle a few questions.  Male defeated Trinity twice last year but graduated 32 seniors from that squad and was thought to be in a rebuilding phase.  However, someone forgot to tell Male as they engaged in an instant classic with Trinity and lost by a score of 37-34 and had their 18 game winning streak broken.  Trinity trailed 34-21 midway through the third quarter but rallied to earn the victory.  Zach Williams kicked a 19 yard field goal with 1:40 remaining in the game to give Trinity a 37-34 lead.  Male was not done as they had a chance for the tie but Erik Sorensson’s 48 yard field goal missed at the buzzer.  Tonight was a game of long distance scoring plays as Male scored on pass plays of 80, 88, 39 and 36 yards and Trinity had scoring plays of 39 and 50 yards.

Trinity recorded 24 first downs and 455 yards of total offense.  The Shamrocks were penalized 10 times for 117 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.  Male recorded 16 first downs and 410 yards.  They were penalized seven times for 63 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Jovan Smith led Trinity’s ground game with 122 yards on 14 carries.  Spencer Blackburn carried the ball 16 times for 100 yards and a touchdown.  Roderick Thomas added 26 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.  Spencer Blackburn completed 11 of 16 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Noah Ellison caught seven passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.  Cody Auxier led the defense with seven solo and two assisted tackles.  Stephen Herron added five solo and two assisted tackles.  Jermaine Jackson recorded five solo and one assisted tackles.

Dayveon Higgs led Male’s ground game with 63 yards on 29 carries.  Tony Thomas carried the ball nine times for 30 yards.  Tony Thomas completed 14 of 18 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns.  Ethan Bibb caught five passes for 173 yards and four touchdowns.  Brian Smith added three receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown.  Robert Sheffield led the defense with eight solo and one assisted tackles.  Klarans Jones added three solo and five assisted tackles.

2016 LOUISVILLE GIRLS’ FALL SHOWCASE

Attention Players and Coaches,

The 3rd Annual High Potential Blue-Chip Fall Showcase will take place once again this fall on September 24th (Saturday) at Bullitt Central High School in Shepherdsville, KY, just 17 miles south of Louisville, between 9 AM and 6:15 PM (EDT).

Players who are either wanting to broaden their college scholarship offers, get noticed by college recruiters or simply just wanting to improve their game against quality competition as they prepare for the 2016-17 season should consider attending. Over 500 select college coaches nationwide will be invited to attend.

I will do a showcase report that will feature each player. It will be emailed to over 500 select colleges across America after the event as well as being posted on my web page which will be available to every college coach in America. Ron Harrison of www.kyprephoops.com will be doing pre and post showcase blogs. Harrison has over 5,000,000 hits on his web site and many college coaches follow his blog religiously.

I have been in the scouting and event profession since 1973. I serve on the selection committee for the Naismith Committee which selects the High School Player of the Year, High School All-American Teams and the High School Coach of the Year for both boys and girls. I do national and regional player rankings which are found at my web page, www.basketball-camp.net, along with a daily blog on high school basketball.

Over 35,000 players over the years have attended my events, many of whom became McDonald’s All-Americans, Mr and Miss Basketballs and all-state players. Over 25 former staff members went on to become head coaches at the Division I level.

College recruiters consider me as their best sixth man since scouts cannot be everywhere at once (there are over 20,000 high schools in the United States). Budget and staff cuts also curtail college coaches from getting out as much as they would like. I have seen over 10,000 high school games and travelled almost 500,000 miles over the years.

The overwhelming majority of the state high school athletic associations allow their female student-athletes to attend basketball events the weekend of September 23-25.

Remember, if you are flying under the radar screens of college recruiters, then the High Potential Blue Chip Showcase is the place to be on September 24th.  Hope to see you at Bullitt Central High School in Shepherdsville, KY. You won’t regret it.

Click either on the below online-registration form or printable form to register. The cost is only $95.00. Upon receiving your registration form, I will either email or mail you confirmation.

Sincerely,

Rick Bolus
