Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey started the following lineup: 6-2 Jr. Ashton Feldhaus, 5-9 Jr. Heather Hinkle, 5-10 Sr. Kristen Congleton, 5-5 Jr. Larryn Brooks, and 5-6 Sr. Ashley Hinkle. Paul L. Dunbar coach Sarah Van Horn countered with 5-10 Sr. Morgan McEldowney, 5-10 Jr. Lakeena Parks, 6-2 So. Brooke Todd, 5-2 Jr. Jordin Fender, and 5-2 Jr. Kierra Muhammad.
Paul L. Dunbar defeated Madison Central 75-60 today in a game that had more twists and turns than a mystery thriller. Madison Central took a 20-15 first quarter led by Ashton Feldhaus with nine points including two three point baskets. Madison Central actually led 36-21 late in the first half and left the floor at the intermission with a 36-23 lead. The Indians shot 56.5% in the first half including four of five from beyond the arc. Madison Central was clearly in control and nothing was really going well for Dunbar. Feldhaus and Larryn Brooks did the damage in the first half with 15 and nine points respectively.
Dunbar took control in the third quarter outscoring Madison Central 24-4 to lead 47-40 after three quarters. Dunbar finished the quarter on a 13-0 run. Lakeena Parks led the charge with nine points in the quarter. Dunbar maintained the advantage in the final quarter buoyed by a constant parade to the free throw line when Madison Central was forced to foul. Dunbar was 22 of 33 from the free throw line in the second half alone led by Kierra Muhammad with 15 of 18 in the second half. Madison Central went cold from the field in the second half only shooting 26.5% from the field after intermission.
Dunbar shot 42.6% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line. The Bulldogs connected on 25 of 38 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 15 Madison Central turnovers. Madison Central shot 38.6% from the field including six of 13 from beyond the arc. The Indians connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 12 points off nine Dunbar turnovers.
Kierra Muhammad led Dunbar with 18 points including 16 of 19 free throws, seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Lakeena Parks added 18 points and eight rebounds. Jordin Fender chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three blocked shots. Morgan McEldowney recorded 13 points including four three point baskets and six rebounds.
Larryn Brooks led Madison Central with 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Ashton Feldhaus added 20 points including three three point baskets and nine rebounds.
