Madison Southern (10-19)  vs.  Franklin County (16-15)

 

Madison Southern coach Shane Buttry started the following lineup: 6-2 Jr. Spencer Stone, 6-1 Jr. Tyler Abshear, 6-3 Jr. Brandon McGuire, 5-11 Sr. Chris Roberts, and 5-10 Fr. Damien Harris.  Franklin County coach Scott Chalk countered with 6-5 Sr. Garrett Hamilton, 6-3 Sr. Eric Meyer, 6-3 So. Chris Roberts, 5-10 Jr. Casey Tabor, and 5-11 Jr. Ryan Timmons.

 

Franklin County’s Chris Roberts hit a layup with 19 seconds left on the clock to give Franklin County a 50-48 come-from-behind victory over Madison Southern. Madison Southern missed a late shot and Franklin County held on for the victory. Madison Southern led 35-25 in the third quarter before Franklin County rallied for the victory.  Franklin County went scoreless in the second quarter.  There were eight lead changes and seven ties in the game.

 

Franklin County shot 43.4% from the field including four of 14 from the three point line.  The Flyers missed their only free throw attempt, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored eight points off 13 Madison Southern turnovers.  Madison Southern shot 39.6% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 15 Franklin County turnovers.

 

Ryan Timmons led Franklin County with 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists.  Chris Roberts added 12 points and 14 rebounds.  Roberts was six of eight from the field.  Eric Meyer chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

 

Tyler Abshear led Madison Southern with 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists.  Chris Roberts added 11 points including three three point baskets and three steals.  Damien Harris chipped in with eight points.  5-11 Jr. Mike Rothermel recorded six points and six rebounds.

Lafayette coach Mike Mendenhall III started the following lineup: 6-8 Jr. Nick Trisko, 6-7 Jr. Ethan Burlingham, 6-8 So. Jackson Davis, 6-0 So. Lance Blakley, and 6-3 Jr. Tranard Chester.  Scott County coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-5 Sr. Tamron Manning, 6-3 Sr. Isaiah Ivey, 6-4 Sr. Josh Harris, 6-0 Jr. Quin Richardson, and 6-1 So. Trenton Gilbert.

 

Scott County led 33-30 at halftime and pulled away in the second half for a 77-62 victory over Lafayette.  There were six lead changes and four ties in this game.  Scott County shot 45.5% from the field including seven of 18 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 20 of 27 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 22 Lafayette turnovers.  Scott County attempted 13 more shots (55-42) from the field than Lafayette.  Lafayette shot 57.1% from the field including five of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Generals connected on nine of 13 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored seven points off 12 Scott county turnovers.

 

Isaiah Ivey led Scott County with 22 points and seven rebounds.  Ivey was nine of 12 from the field including one of two from the three point line, and three of three free throws.  Trenton Gilbert added 18 points including four three point baskets.  Tamron Manning recorded 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and five steals.  Quin Richardson chipped in with 11 points and four assists.

 

6-7 Jr. Charles Sweat-Washington led Lafayette with 21 points and nine rebounds.  Sweat-Washington was eight of 11 from the field including two of four from the three point line, and three of four from the free throw line.  Tranard Chester added 12 points including two three point baskets and six assists.  Nick Trisko chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.  Jackson Davis recorded nine points, four rebounds, and three steals.

Bryan Station (12-20)  vs.  Madison Central (30-1)

 

Bryan Station coach Mike Allen started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Marcus Williams, 6-0 Jr. Tyler Smith, 6-3 Sr. Kalahari Harris, 6-0 So. Jordan Henry, and 6-1 Sr. Jaylen Beckham.  Madison Central coach Allen Feldhaus countered with 6-5 Jr. Quan Taylor, 6-1 Sr. John O’Bryan, 6-6 Sr. Hunter Allen, 6-1 Jr. Ken-Jah Bosley, and 6-1 Jr. Dominique Hawkins.

 

Bryan Station’s Jaylen Beckham finished his high school career with 31 points but it wasn’t enough to stop the balanced Madison Central squad from capturing an 82-66 victory over the Defenders.  Madison Central shot 59.2% from the field including five of 10 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 19 of 29 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 11 Bryan Station turnovers.  Bryan Station shot 36.9% from the field including five of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Defenders connected on 13 of 25 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 15 Madison Central turnovers.

 

Dominique Hawkins led Madison Central with 26 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.  John O’Bryan added 15 points including three three point baskets.  Hunter Allen chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Ken-Jah Bosley also recorded 12 points and had five assists.  Quan Taylor added seven points and 10 rebounds.  The Indians got 20 excellent minutes from 6-0 Jr. Daniel Parke with five points, four rebounds, and two assists and did an excellent job of navigating against Bryan Station’s pressure defense.  6-4 Jr. Hunter Stocker also contributed five points.

 

Jaylen Beckham led Bryan Station with 31 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  6-2 Jr. Kenyon Hipps added 13 points and five rebounds.

Woodford County coach Scott Hundley started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. David Greenwell, 6-4 Sr. Addison Hollin, 6-7 Sr. Jay Johnson, 6-1 Sr. Rodney Gross, and 6-2 Sr. William Starcher.  Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-6 Sr. Patrick Keller, 6-5 Sr. Craig Floyd, 6-9 Jr. Jack Whitman, 5-10 Jr. Dillon Avare, and 5-10 Sr. Bryan Woomer.

 

Woodford County defeated Lexington Catholic 51-49 in an overtime thriller.  Lexington Catholic held a 34-25 lead in the third quarter but Woodford County’s Rodney Gross hit a driving layup in the closing seconds of regulation to tie the game at 46-46 and force overtime.  Jay Johnson gave Woodford County the lead for good with two free throws at the 1:23 mark of overtime to give the Yellowjackets a 50-49 lead.  Lexington Catholic could not get their shots to fall and Johnson capped the scoring with a free throw with seconds remaining on the clock.  Free throws were Lexington Catholic’s downfall tonight as they only connected on five of 14 from the charity stripe.  There were 10 lead changes and seven ties in the game.

 

Woodford county shot 34.8% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Yellowjackets connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 14 Lexington Catholic turnovers.  The Yellowjackets held a 13-0 advantage in bench scoring.  Lexington Catholic shot 42.6% from the field including four of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on five of 14 free throws (35.7%), pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 16 Woodford County turnovers.

 

Jay Johnson led Woodford County with 10 points and 13 rebounds.  David Greenwell added 10 points and seven rebounds.  William Starcher and 5-10 So. Eli Boggess also recorded 10 points each.  Rodney Gross chipped in with six points, six assists, and his last second heroics in regulation.

 

Jack Whitman led Lexington Catholic with 19 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Craig Floyd added 16 points including three three point baskets.  Bryan Woomer chipped in with eight points, nine assists, and six steals.  Patrick Keller pulled down eight rebounds and blocked three shots.

Assumption defeated Sacred Heart Academy 59-57 in double overtime.  Sacred Heart  missed free throws late in regulation and the first overtime to open the door for Assumption.  Sacred Heart led 18-7 early in the second quarter but Assumption rallied for the victory.  There were five lead changes and four ties in the game. Assumption shot 46.5% from the field including three of seven from the three point line.  The Rockets connected on 16 of 27 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 14 SHA turnovers.  Sacred Heart shot 35.1% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Valkyries connected on 14 of 25 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 26 Assumption turnovers.

Mercy Academy led Holy Cross 40-35 at halftime and outscored the Cougars 39-14 in the second half to earn a 79-49 victory.  Holy Cross shot 50% in the first half but went cold in the second half only shooting 26.7% after the intermission.  Mercy shot 45.2% from the field including 15 of 31 from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on eight of 15 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 31 points off 26 Holy Cross turnovers.  Holy Cross shot 41% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Cougars connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored nine points off 14 Mercy turnovers.

Butler scored on a Danielle Lawrence field goal on an inbounds pass from Aareon Smith with one second on the clock to give the Bearettes a 50-48 victory over Bullitt East.  Butler led 23-13 in the second quarter but Bullitt East rallied to lead 38-37 after three quarters.  There were five lead changes and five ties in the game.  Butler shot 36% from the field including three of 16 from the three point line.  The Bearettes connected on 11 of 14 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 13 Bullitt East turnovers.  Butler attempted 14 more shots (50-36) from the field than Bullitt East.  Bullitt East shot 41.7% from the field including four of six from beyond the arc.  The Lady Chargers connected on 14 of 23 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 10 Butler turnovers.

Bullitt Central coach Bryan Bates started the following lineup: 5-9 Sr. Kaitlyn McKnight, 5-7 Jr. Kristen Collins, 5-11 Sr. Seaera Minyard, 5-3 Jr. Kayla Riggs, and 5-3 Jr. Kristyn Harned.  Mercy Academy coach Mark Evans countered with 5-10 Sr. Christine Roush, 5-9 Jr. Victoria Dircksen, 5-11 Sr. Courtney Roush, 5-7 Jr. Kayla Richardson, and 5-7 Jr. Whitney Hartlage.

 

Mercy Academy raced out to a 25-3 first quarter lead on their way to an 82-49 victory over Bullitt Central.  Twelve players from Mercy logged between 8:00 to 16:16 minutes of playing time with all twelve cracking the scoring column.  Mercy shot 55% from the field including six of 20 from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on 10 of 20 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 42 points off 31 Bullitt Central turnovers.  Bullitt Central shot 44.7% from the field including 10 of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Cougars connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored eight points off nine Mercy turnovers.

 

Christine Roush led Mercy with 20 points and nine rebounds.  Roush was eight of eight from the field including one of one from the three point line, and three of four free throws.  Kayla Richardson added 13 points including three three point baskets.  6-0 Fr. Malerie Martin chipped in with 10 points.  Courtney Roush, Whitney Hartlage, and Kayla Richardson each recorded five steals.

 

Kayla Riggs added Bullitt Central with 19 points including three three point baskets.  Riggs was six of seven from the field including three of four from the three point line, and four of five free throws.  Kaitlyn McKnight added 14 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.

Holy Cross scored 34 points off 26 western turnovers in a 74-48 victory.  Holy Cross shot 42.2% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Cougars connected on 17 of 23 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and held a 31-8 advantage in bench points.  Western shot 30.2% from the field including two of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Warriors connected on 14 of 20 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Holy Cross turnovers.

 

5-10 So. Josie Hockman led Holy Cross with 15 points and four steals.  Sydney Morabito added 14 points.  Julie Skaggs recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Skaggs was four of five from the field and four of four from the free throw line.  Mya Hardin recorded six steals.

Butler defeated Pleasure Ridge Park by a score of 72-47.  Butler shot 42.6% from the field including eight of 20 from the three point line.  The Bearettes connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 29 PRP turnovers.  Butler attempted 28 more shots (61-33) from the field than PRP.  PRP shot 42.4% from the field including zero of five from beyond the arc.  The Lady Panthers connected on 19 of 30 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored eight points off 16 Butler turnovers.

Woodford County captured a tough 50-45 decision over upset minded Madison Southern tonight.  Woodford County raced out to an 18-7 lead early in the second quarter but Madison Southern rallied to outscore Woodford county 17-10 in the second quarter to knot the score at 23-23 at halftime.  Woodford County took a 38-30 lead but Madison Southern rallied and Madison Southern’s Kristen Hayes hit a field goal to tie the score at 42-42 with 5:48 left in the game.  Woodford County finally took the lead for good on a field goal by Chelsey Ford to give Woodford County a 44-42 lead with 4:57 left in the game.  There were two lead changes and five ties in this game.

 

Woodford County shot 41.3% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Yellowjackets connected on eight of 15 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 Madison Southern turnovers.  Madison Southern shot 30.2% from the field including nine of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 14 Woodford County turnovers.  Madison Southern held a 22-9 advantage in bench points.

Paul L, Dunbar defeated Scott County by a score of 60-54.  Dunbar led 23-9 in the second quarter but Scott County refused to give up and took a 50-49 lead on two free throws by Tereka Guyn with 1:32 left in the game.  However Dunbar buoyed by several free throws outscored Scott County 11-4 over the last 1:23 of the game to earn the victory.  Dunbar’s Jordin Fender was limited to two points and 12 minutes of time tonight due to an injury.  Scott County stayed  in the game as a result of their outstanding work on the boards as they outrebounded Dunbar 62-37.  There were 10 lead changes and seven ties in this game.

 

Dunbar shot 30.6% from the field including four of 18 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 18 of 26 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 22 Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 32.4% from the field including one of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on nine of 17 free throws, pulled down 62 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 11 Dunbar turnovers.

North Hardin coach Chris Corder started the following lineup: 5-8 Jr. Chanel Roberts, 5-6 Sr. Brianna Woodson, 5-8 So. Morgan Barrick, 5-2 So. Domineque Taft, and 5-4 So. Kiera Jones.  Elizabethtown coach Tim Mudd countered with 6-0 8^th grader Erin Boley, 5-10 Sr. Darian Ditto, 6-1 Fr. Reaunna Cleaver, 5-7 Jr. Anna Bowling, and 5-11 Sr. Kaylyn Cecil.

 

Elizabethtown defeated North Hardin by a score of 72-54 for the district championship and accomplished the difficult task of defeating a good team three times in one season.  North Hardin led 17-15 after the first quarter but Elizabethtown rallied to lead 34-29 at halftime and extended the margin in the second half.  North Hardin went cold from the field in the second half only shooting 24.1% from the field including 1of 12 from the three point line after the intermission. 

 

Elizabethtown shot a sizzling 67.6% from the field including one of two from the free throw line.  The Lady Panthers connected on 21 of 28 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 13 North Hardin turnovers.  North Hardin shot 35.3% from the field including two of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Trojans connected on 16 of 29 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 19 Elizabethtown turnovers.

 

Erin Boley led Elizabethtown with 18 points and seven rebounds.  Boley was seven of 11 from the field and four of four from the free throw line.  Anna Bowling added 12 points and Kaylyn Cecil chipped in with 11 points.  Darian Ditto and 5-8 Fr. Livie Bowling recorded eight points each and Reaunna Cleaver added seven points and seven rebounds.

 

Chanel Roberts led North Hardin with 17 points and eight rebounds.  5-3 8^th grader Tamiah Stanford added 11 points.  Brianna Woodson and Kiera Jones each scored eight points.
