Lexington Catholic kicker Jake Pumphrey got a second chance and it was golden as he kicked a 22 yard field goal with 10 seconds left in the game to give Lexington Catholic a 21-18 victory.  Pumphrey had missed a 27 yard attempt with one minute left in the game but got a second chance when Alex Nash intercepted a Garrett Peavler pass on the Lafayette 25 and returned it to the Lafayette 20 with 52 seconds left on the clock.  Garrett Peavler capably filled in for Lafayette starting QB Jeremy Smith who was out with an injury.  This was only the second meeting beween Lexington Catholic and a Lexington public school. 

Lexington Catholic recorded 19 first downs and 310 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized 11 times for 92 yards.  Lafayette recorded 18 first downs and 356 yards of total offense.  The Generals were penalized eight times for 80 yards and had two passes intercepted.

Kyle Bolin led Lexington Catholic’s ground game with 43 yards on nine carries.  Noah Mitchell carried the ball seven times for 32 yards.  Kyle Bolin completed 12 of 27 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.  Adam Bush caught six passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns.  David Bouvier added three receptions for 21 yards.  Jordan Artrip led the defense with six solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totalling five yards and recorded a safety.  Alex Nash recorded four solo tackles, two assisted tackles, and intercepted a pass.  Two of Nash’s tackles resulted in losses totalling 18 yards.

William Johnson led Lafayette’s ground attack with 143 yards and a touchdowwn on 20 carries.  Garrett Peavler completed 11 of 19 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.  Tranard Chester caught six passes for 159 yards and a touchdown.  Jason Ferguson led the defense with eight solo and one assisted tackles.  Justin Carr added five solo and seven assisted tackles.  Chris Oldham recorded five solo and two assisted tackles.

Fern Creek trailed 14-8 at halftime but scored 18 points in the third quarter on their way to a 32-20 victory over Paul L. Dunbar.  Fern Creek earns their first victory of the year to improve their record to 1-2 while Dunbar falls to 0-2.  Fern Creek recorded 16 first downs and 300 yards of total offense.  They were penalized 10 times for 89 yards and lost five fumbles.  Paul L. Dunbar recorded 21 first downs and 297 yards of total offense.  The Bulldogs were penalized six times for 36 yards, lost a fumble, and had three passes intercepted.

Jalen McNeal led Fern Creek’s ground game with 121 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries.  Darius Ross carried the ball 10 times for 86 yards.  Jacob Hayes added 83 yards on 14 carries.  Brady Nagle completed one of three passes for 19 yards.  Jacob Hayes caught one pass for 19 yards.  Travon Spencer led the defense with seven solo and two assisted tackles.  Maurice Lockett added three solo and six assisted tackles.  Aaron Smith intercepted three passes and returned one 70 yards for a touchdown.

John Rose led Dunbar’s ground game with 77 yards on 14 carries.  Blake Martin completed 18 of 45 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.  Emory Thompson caught seven passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.  Cam Pergram added five receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown.  Brandyn Duncan caught four passes for 43 yards.  K. Roberts and Dan Mulert led the defense with five solo and two assisted tackles each.  Jonathan Brown recovered two fumbles.

Scott County continues to impress early in the season as they improve to 3-0 with a 52-0 victory over Harrison County who falls to 1-2.  Scott County recorded 20 first downs and 403 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized five times for 35 yards.  Harrison County recorded nine first downs and 155 yards of total offense.  They were penalized four times for 25 yards and lost a fumble.

Dier. Dumphord led Scott County’s ground game with 58 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.  Josh Walls carried the ball eight times for 52 yards and two touchdowns.  Ben Lawler completed seven of 16 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.   Scott Daniel caught five passes for 144 yards and a touchdown.  Jordan Kindred led the defense with seven solo and seven assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totalling nine yards.  Damon Gray added three solo tackles, four assisted tackles, and recovered a fumble which he returned for a touchdown.

Nick Slucher led the Harrison County ground game with 79 yards on 11 carries.  Joe Korona completed six of 13 passes for 54 yards.  Eli Gross caught four passes for 53 yards.  Nick Slucher led the defense with four solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totalling five yards.  Jonathan Willis added four solo tackles and Daniel White recorded three solo and two assisted tackles.

Madison Central had 518 yards of total offense in a 29-7 victory over Mercer County as they evened their season record at 1-1.  Mercer County fell to 1-1 for the season.  Madison Central recorded 22 first downs and 518 yards of total offense.  The Indians were penalized 12 times for 122 yards, lost two fumbles, and had two passes intercepted.  Mercer County recorded 14 first downs and 216 yards of total offense.  They were penalized four times for 50 yards and had four passes intercepted.

Dominique Hawkins led Madison Central’s ground attack with 214 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.  Jamez Chenault carried the ball 16 times for 84 yards.  Hunter Stocker completed 11 of 21 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.  Ken Jah Bosley caught four passes for 41 yards and a touchdown.  JaCory Mullins caught two passes for 50 yards and a touchdown.  Dominique Hawkins added two receptions for 42 yards.  Austin Coyle and Justin Fritz led the defense with six solo tackles each.  Brandon Parks added four solo tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 16 yards.  Austin Coyle, Dre Goggins, Daniel Foster, and Melvin March each intercepted a pass.

James Johnson led Mercer County’s ground game with 93 yards on 10 carries.  JT Long completed 11 of 34 passes for 97 yards with four interceptions.  Russell Sims caught three passes for 41 yards.  GW Anderson and Tre Harris led the defense with five solo tackles each.  Tre Harris and Darion Lewis each recovered a fumble and Lewis added two pass interceptions.

Franklin County improves to 3-0 with a 34-27 victory over Letcher County Central who drops to 1-2 for the season.  Chris Roberts scored on an eight yard run with 2:16 lefet in the game and Zach Durham kicked the extra point to give the Flyers the final victory margin.  Franklin County’s Damani Aziz snuffed out Letcher County Central’s last chance as he intercepted a pass and returned it 78 yards to the Letcher County Central 12 to run out the clock.  Both teams dialed long distance regularly as six of the nine touchdowns scored came on plays of over 35 yards.

Franklin County recorded 10 first downs and 376 yards of total offense.  The Flyers were penalized 14 times for 121 yards and lost a fumble.  Letcher County Central recorded 23 first downs and 436 yards of total offense.  They were penalized six times for 44 yards, lost two fumbles, and had three passes intercepted.  Letcher County Central ran 77 plays on offense compared to 46 for Franklin County.

Ryan Timmons led Franklin County’s ground game with 78 yards and a touchdown on five carries.  Chris Roberts carried the ball 10 times for 36 yards and two touchdowns.  Logan Woodside completed seven of 18 for 215 yards and two touchdowns.  Ryan Timmons caught three passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns.  Josh Pedone led the defense with six solo and four assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 14 yards.  Aaron Lackey added two solo and eight assisted tackles.  Jay Brough chipped in with two solo and six assisted tackles with 3.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totalling six yards.  Greg Maupin recorded six solo tackles with four of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 35 yards.

Logan Johnson led Letcher County Central’s ground game with 52 yards on 24 carries.  Logan Johnson completed 16 of 31 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions.  Corey Dollarhide caught six passes for 41 yards.  Matt Boggs caught four passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns.  Chris Tyree added four receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown.  Keaston Hall recorded two receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown.  Koree Stewart led the defense with three solo and four assisted tackles.  Tony Cantu, Caleb Baker, Sidney Fields, and Chris Tyree each recorded two solo and four assisted tackles.

Everett Talbert scored on a one yard run with 14 seconds remaining on the clock and Michael Morton kicked the extra point to give Bryan Station a 21-14 victory over West Jessamine and improve their record to 2-1.  West Jessamine drops to 0-3 for the season.  Bryan Station recorded 15 first downs and 341 yards of total offense.  The Defenders were penalized eight times for 76 yards.  West Jessamine recorded 13 first downs and 265 yards of total offense.  The Colts were penalized 11 times for 113 yards, lost two fumbles, and had one pass intercepted.

Ora Johnson led the Bryan Station ground game with 108 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.  LJ Warfield carried the ball six times for 54 yards.  Ora Johnson completed 11 of 21 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.  Jaysuma Webb caught four passes for 63 yards.  LJ Warfield caught two passes for 22 yards and a touchdown.  Everett Talbert led the defense with three solo and four assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totalling nine yards.  Elijah Burdette also recorded three solo and four assisted tackles.  Jeremy Strode added four solo and two assisted tackles.

Tates Creek dropped a hard fought 21-14 decision to Corbin on the road tonight.  Corbin improves their record to 1-2 while Tates Creek drops to 1-2 for the season.  Corbin raced out to a 14-0 halftime lead but Tates Creek fought back to tie the score at 14-14 on an 80 yard run by Dennis Oxendine and a coversion kick by Jake Ryan early in the final period.  Corbin’s Brad Foley scored the winning touchdown on a 15 yard run with 7:15 left in the game.  Corbin recorded 20 first downs and 301 yards of total offense.  The Redhounds were penalized four times for 30 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.  Tates Creek recorded 13 first downs and 365 yards of total offense.  The Commodores were penalized eight times for 75 yards and lost two fumbles.

Brad Foley led Corbin’s ground game with 159 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.  Matt Jewell added 67 yards on 15 carries.  Ty Cobb completed six of 12 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Josh Jewell caught three passes for 24 yards.  Hunter Grubb caught a 26 yard TD pass.  Grant Grigsby led the defense with one solo and six assisted tackles.  Tanner Powers added seven assisted tackles.

Dennis Oxendine led the Tates Creek ground game with 219 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.  Martell Berry completed six of 15 passes for 95 yards.  Keith Denton caught two passes for 48 yards.  RJ Taylor led the defense with three solo tackles, seven assisted tackles, and two fumble recoveries.  Kalin Poe added two solo tackles, seven assisted tackles, and one pass interception.  Austin Yates recorded eight assisted tackles.

Belfry utilized their patented running game to grind out a 34-21 victory over Henry Clay to drop the Blue Devils to 0-3 for the season.  Belfry improves their season record to 2-0 for the year.  The score was tied 21-21 late in the third quarter but Belfry scored 14 unanswered points to earn the victory.  Belfry recorded 28 first downs and 491 yards of total offense.  The Pirates were penalized seven times for 73 yards.  Belfry ran 68 plays on offense compared to 29 for Henry Clay.  Henry Clay recorded nine first downs and 255 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized four times for 35 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Justin Johnson led Belfry’s ground game with 99 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.  Josh Dixon added 95 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.  Trey Willis added 83 yards on 14 carries and Tyler Williams chipped in with 77 yards on 12 carries.  Josh Robinson carried the ball 13 times for 69 yards and a touchdown.  Tyler Williams completed two of four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown.  Howie Dotson caught a 36 yard TD pass.  Josh Dixon led the defense with six solo tackles.  Tony Messer added two solo and three assisted tackles.  Josh Robinson intercepted a pass.

Davion Jackson led Henry Clay’s ground attack with 174 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries.  Christian Todd completed five of seven passes for 15 yards with one interception.  Logan Gross caught one pass for 12 yards.  Charles McCarty led the defense with seven solo and five assisted tackles.  Anthony Lindsey added six solo and seven assisted tackles.  Hagan Bradley recorded six solo and five assisted tackles.

Rowan County 59  Southwestern 51  (Ray Correll Bowl) – Stephen Williamson carried the ball 24 times for 280 yards and Adam Wing threw for TDs and 183 yards.  Phillip Hodge caught 11 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns.  QB Logan Starnes led Southwestern with 238 yards and two TD passes.  Alan Williams caught eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

John Hardin improved their season record to 2-0 with a 47-37 victory in a wild shootout that featured a lot of offense and a ton of penalties.  Lexington Catholic drops to 1-1 for the season.  The teams combined for 889 yards of offense and combined for 207 yards on penalties.  John Hardin QB Eli Mitchell threw five touchdown passes and RB Jeremy Harness ran for 198 yards.

John Hardin recorded 13 first downs and 449 yards of total offense.  They were penalized 10 times for 105 yards and lost four fumbles.  Lexington Catholic recorded 19 first downs and 440 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized 12 times for 102 yards and had three passes intercepted.

Jeremy Harness led John Hardin’s ground game with 198 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.  Quinsie Brown added 59 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  Eli Mitchell completed seven of 11 passes for 198 yards and five touchdowns.  Wade Holtsclaw caught three passes for 56 yards and two tiuchdowns.  Jeremy Harness added two receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns.  Jalen Fleming caught a 62 yard scoring strike.  Dominick Brown led the defense with seven solo and four assisted tackles.  Quinsie Brown added seven solo tackles.  Mark Thompson recorded four solo tackles, two assisted tackles, and intercepted two passes.  Jeremy Harness also intercepted a pass.

Marcelis Logan led the Lexington Catholic ground game with 54 yards on 11 carries.  Kyle Bolin completed 24 of 44 passes for 344 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.  Adam Bush caught six passes for 71 yards.  David Bouvier added five receptions for 53 yards.  Casey Nash recorded four receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown.  Mike Lynch led the defense with five solo tackles, two assisted tackles, and a fumble recovery.  Adam Wachs added five solo tackles.  Alex Nash recorded four solo tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totalling 25 yards.  Josh Mesmer added three solo tackles, two assisted tackles, and scored on a 31 yard fumble recovery return.
