Warren Central 75  Central 65 – 6-7 Sr. George Fant led Warren Central with 26 points and six rebounds.  Fant was 10 of 12 from the line and six of nine from the free throw line.  5-11 Sr. Jordan Shanklin added 16 points.  6-1 Sr. Vic Smith chipped in with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.  6-0 So. Domonique Chandler led Central with 30 points including seven three point baskets.  6-3 Fr. DeAngelo Russell added 10 points.

 

Henry Clay  73  Elliott County 63 – 6-5 Fr. Trey Grundy led Henry Clay with 14 points.  6-6 Sr. Daniel Kiesling added 13 points and six rebounds.  6-0 Sr. Kendrick Prewitt chipped in with 12 points and 6-2 Sr. Trae Stewart recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.  6-8 Sr. Timmy Knipp led Elliott County with 24 points including five three point baskets and six rebounds.  6-7 Sr. Jacob Ison added 23 points and six rebounds.  5-9 Sr. Cody Nickell also reached double figures with 10 points.

 

Covington Catholic 71  Mercer County 69 – 6-7 Sr. Jake Thelen led Covington Catholic with 32 points and 11 rebounds.  6-5 Sr. Alex Connelly and 6-0 Sr. Brett Reidinger added 13 and 12 points respectively.  Reidinger also dished out six assists.  6-1 Sr. Clay Cinnamon led Mercer County with 24 points.  6-2 Sr. Aaron Lee added 21 points.

 

Fayette County GA 77  Bowling Green 61 3rd Place – Fayette County outscored Bowling Green 24-11 in the final quarter.  6-0 Sr. Adam Smith led the victors with 32 points including three three point baskets.  6-4 Jr. Kellen Sanford added 13 points.  6-7 Sr. Chane Behanan led Bowling Green with 22 points.  6-1 Sr. Austin Disney added 10 points.

Ballard 89  Lexington Catholic 76 – Ballard outscored Lexington Catholic 13-2 in the final minutes to break open a close game.  5-11 Fr. Quentin Snider led Ballard with 18 points including five three point baskets.  6-5 Fr. Kelan Martin added 15 points and eight rebounds.  5-11 So. Lavonne Holland also recorded 15 points.  6-3 Sr. DeVante Parker chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds.  6-1 Sr. Danny Yackey also scored 14 points including four three point baskets.  6-5 Sr. Taylor Martin led Lexington Catholic with 27 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals.  Martin was 13 of 15 from the field and one of three from the free throw line.  6-4 Sr. Scott Schuette added 23 points including six three point baskets and pulled down six rebounds.  6-0 Sr. Seth Beckham chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds.

Covington Scott 75  Sheldon Clark 57 – 6-1 Sr. Kellen Smith, 5-11 Sr. Ryan Stivers, and 5-10 Sr. Cameron Haynes led Scott with 13, 10, and nine points respectively.  6-2 Sr. Tyler Lafferty and 6-4 Sr. Channing Fugate led Sheldon Clark with 11 and 10 points respectively.

 

Covington Catholic 67  Henry Clay 57 – 6-7 Sr. Jake Thelen led Covington Catholic with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.  6-5 Sr. Alex Connelly, 6-7 Sr. Drew Baker, 6-0 Sr. Brett Reidinger, and 6-2 Sr. Andrew Schult added 12, 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.  Reidinger recorded three three point baskets.  6-0 Sr. Brandon Nichols and 6-4 Fr. Jordan Green  led Henry Clay with 12 and 11 points respectively.

 

Seneca 70  Betsy Layne 57 – 6-0 Sr. Kevin Shaw and 6-3 Sr. Martez Harris led Seneca with 24 and 23 points respectively.  6-4 Sr. Logan Davis added 10 points.  6-5 Sr. Nathan Martin led Betsy Layne with 36 points including eight three point baskets.  6-2 Sr. Casey Adkins added 12 points.

 

Mercer County 88  Elliott County 70 – 6-1 Sr. Clay Cinnamon led Mercer county with 21 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  6-1 Sr. Matthew Honchel added 20 points and nine rebounds.  5-9 Sr. Austin Sagraves chipped in with 15 points including three three point baskets.  6-2 Sr. Mathew Banks recorded eight points and 10 rebounds.  6-7 Sr. Jacob Ison led Elliott County with 36 points and 15 rebounds.  Ison was 14 of 19 from the field and eight of 10 from the free throw line.  6-8 Sr. Timmy Knipp added 21 points.

duPont Manual (7-0)  vs.  Mercy Academy (7-0)

 

Manual coach Stacy Pendleton started the following lineup: 5-8 Jr. Lauren Bodine, 5-10 Jr. Kara Wright, 5-10 Sr. Mechael Guess, 5-6 Jr. LeAsia Wright, and 5-7 Jr. April Wilson.  Mercy coach Mark Evans countered with 5-8 Sr. Emily Goetz, 5-7 So. Whitney Hartlage, 5-10 Jr. Christine Roush, 5-5 Sr. Lauren Faris, and 5-8 Sr. Juliann Miller.

Mercy rallied from a seven point deficit (48-41) entering the final quarter to defeat Manual by a score of 62-59.  These are two of the powerhouse teams in the absolutely loaded 7th region that will probably meet several times this season.  There were seven ties and 10 lead changes in this game.

Mercy shot 44.7% from the field including five of eight from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on 23 of 28 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 11 Manual turnovers.   Manual shot 41% from the field including four of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Crimsons connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 15 Mercy turnovers.

Whitney Hartlage led Mercy with 15 points including three three point baskets.  Lauren Faris added 11 points and Emily Goetz recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds.

5-9 So. Destony Curry led Manual with 13 points.  Kara Wright and Mechael Guess added 10 points each.

Fleming County (9-0)  vs.  Bryan Station (7-1)

 

Fleming County coach Kristy Orem started the following lineup: 5-4 Sr. Kosha Puente, 5-4 Sr. Sarah Boyd, 5-7 Jr. Alliyah Johnson, 5-3 Jr. Mandy Boyd, and 5-2 Jr. Robbie Allex.  Bryan Station coach Karra Jackson countered with 5-9 So. Serena Sandusky, 5-7 Sr. Tori Clark, 6-0 Sr. Amber Crumbie, 5-7 Sr. Marissa Prince, and 5-6 Sr. Carrington Caise.

Bryan Station raced out to a 32-13 halftime lead on their way to a 65-48 victory over Fleming County.  Fleming County shot an icy 8.7% (2-23) from the field in the first half and only nine of 22 free throws in the first half.  Bryan Station shot 36.8% from the field including two of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Defenders connected on 21 of 31 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored nine points off 16 Fleming County turnovers.  Fleming county shot 20.3% from the field including two of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Panthers connected on 22 of 40 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 25 Bryan Station turnovers.

Serena Sandusky led Bryan Station with 17 points and 16 rebounds.  Tori Clark added 15 points and 5-9 Fr. Victoria McCoy pulled down 11 rebounds.

Kosha Puente and Robbie Allex led Fleming County with 16 points each.

Henry Clay (6-2)  vs.  Clark County (7-1)

 

Henry Clay coach Daniel Brown started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Kendrick Prewitt, 6-2 Sr. Trae Stewart, 6-6 Sr. Daniel Kiesling, 5-8 Jr. Wes Kimball, and 6-0 Sr. Brandon Nichols.  Clark County coach Scott Humphrey countered with 6-9 Sr. Vinny Zollo, 6-7 Sr. Jaylen Daniel, 6-4 Sr. Corey Rogers, 6-1 Jr. Bopper Stenzel, and 6-4 Sr. Robbie Stenzel.

Henry Clay captured the championship with a 55-54 upset victory over Clark County.Clark County held a 54-53 lead late in the game after Corey Rogers hit two free throws.  Henry Clay turned the ball over and Vinny Zollo went to the line with 2.5 seconds remaining on the clock.  Zollo missed the front end of a one-and one and Brandon Nichols grabbed the rebound.  Nichols was fouled and hit two free throws with 0.9 seconds remaining to give the Blue Devils the victory. Clark county led 39-30 in the third quarter but Henry Clay rallied to trail 44-41 at the end of three quarters,  There were nine ties and 13 lead changes in the game.

Henry Clay shot 44.4% from the field includingfive of 15 from the three point line.  The blue Devils connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 11 Clark county turnovers.  Clark county shot 43.5% from the field including four of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 11 Henry Clay turnovers.

Kendrick Prewitt led Henry Clay with 22 points.  Prewitt eas six of 10 from the field including four of five from the three point line and six of 10 from the free throw line.  Wes Kimball added 13 points and dished out five assists.  Daniel Kiesling recorded 10 points and seven rebounds.

Vinny Zollo led Clark County with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Corey Rogers added 14 points and seven rebounds.  Robbie Stenzel chipped in with 10 points.

Eastern (7-0)  vs.  Jeffersontown (9-0)

 

Eastern coach Jason Couch started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Lyonell Gaines, 6-4 Sr. Arman Marks, 6-9 Sr. Kameron Woods, 5-11 Sr. Byron Sanford, and 6-4 Sr.Remy Abell.  Jeffersontown coach Jeff Morrow countered with 6-5 Sr. Tony Kimbro, 6-3 Jr. Desmond Dorsey, 6-10 Sr. Zach Price, 6-1 Sr. Harry Cross, and 6-2 Jr. Cody Russell.

What a night for basketball junkies everywhere !!  The number 1 and 2 teams in the state playing for the prestigious King of the Bluegrass Championship.  Jeffersontown captured the title by a score of 69-61 over Eastern.  Jeffersontown raced out to an early lead despite foul problems to their big man in the middle Zach Price.  Jeffersontown took a 31-18 lead at halftime and looked to be on their way to a rout as they stretched their advantage to 18 points; 38-20.  However Eastern fought back and cut the margin to three; 61-58 before Jeffersontown rallied to take control of the game.

Jeffersontown shot 46.6% from the field including eight of 16 from the three point line.  The Chargers connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 14 Eastern turnovers.  Eastern shot 36.4% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 15 Jeffersontown turnovers.

Harry Cross led the victors with 14 points.  5-11 Jr. Demichel Jackson, Desmond Dorsey, and Zach Price added 11 points each.Tony Kimbro recorded seven points, nine rebounds, and five assists.  Dorsey connected on three three point baskets. Zach price added five rebounds and three blocked shots but fouled out of the game after only logging 11:52 minutes of playing time.

Remy Abell led Eastern with 21 points and six steals.  Lyonnel Gaines added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Arman Marks chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.  Kameron Woods recorded seven points, 15 rebounds, and five blocked shots.

Lexington Christian Academy coach Tommy Huston started the following lineup: 6-1 Sr. Joe Duncan, 6-1 Jr. Patrick Nickodem, 6-5 Sr. Max Barjuca, 5-10 Sr. Carter Helton, and 6-2 Jr. Taylor Batnette.  Woodford county coach Scott Hundley countered with 6-4 Jr. David Greenwell, 6-3 Jr. Addison Hollin, 6-7 Jr. Jay Johnson, 5-11 Jr. William Starcher, and 6-1 Jr. Rodney Gross.

Lexington Christian Academy took advantage of Woodford County’s cold shooting (24%) in the first half to take a 35-14 lead on their way to a 61-47 victory.  LCA shot 46.8% from the field including seven of 18 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 10 of 13 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 17 Woodford County turnovers.  Woodford County shot 34.7% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Yellowjackets connected on 10 of 18 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored eight points off 14 LCA turnovers.

Taylor Barnette led a balanced LCA attack with 13 points.  Patrick Nickodem and 5-8 So. Tyler Harville added 11 points each.  Carter Helton added nine points and Max Barjuca chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.

Jay Johnson led Woodford County with 21 points and six rebounds.  David Greenwell added 12 points.
